Bo luc lac – Zadin

Bo luc lac - Zadin
Shaken Beef. Cubes of angus filet mignon, wok-seared medium rare with onions and garlic. Served on a bed of mixed greens, brown rice, and topped with yam fries. $20
Zadin, San Francisco CA

I don’t know why I expect every version of Shaking Beef to be good! This was ok, but the beef was a little tough. Oh well, the search continues…

Garlic prawns – Zadin

Garlic prawns - Zadin
Prawns lightly fried and tossed in a caramelized garlic chili sauce. Served on a bed of coconut scented rice and garnished with a pea shoot mango salad. $19
Zadin, San Francisco CA

This was flavorful, but definitely over-sauced. I love me some sauce, but these poor prawns were drowned in it and totally got lost. The pea shoot and mango salad was very tasty though.

Soft shell crab with garlic noodles – Zadin

Soft shell crab with garlic noodles - Zadin
Fried soft-shell crab served on a bed of sauteed noodles tossed with soy garlic sauce, egg, and butter. Garnished with a wedge of lime and cilantro. $20
Zadin, San Francisco CA

Mmm, this had SO much flavor! The lime and cilantro were a great touch to bring it back to the Asian side of things. I love soft shell crab! 🙂

Brunch cocktails – Twenty Five Lusk

S.F. Yacht Club cocktail - Twenty Five Lusk

S.F. Yacht Club: vodka, grapefruit, cucumber, lemon, lime, mint. Gilt City brunch menu
Twenty Five Lusk, San Francisco CA

I thought this cocktail would be more refreshing and would knock my socks off, but it didn’t. It was pretty to look at, but fell flat in the taste department which is surprising considering the great combination of ingredients.

Lusk Bloody Mary - Twenty Five Lusk

Lusk Bloody Mary: vodka, roasted tomatoes, lemon, roasted garlic, thai chili paste, aged balsamic vinegar.

Mmm, this bloddy mary delicious! I sometimes buy the daily deal certificates for restaurants I haven’t tried, and I have to say that I was really impressed with this Gilt buy for Twentry Five Lusk. We had a great time, the food was delicious (for the most part), and the service was friendly and professional. I’d definitely got back for more!

Veal picatta – Briscola

Veal picatta - Briscola
Veal cutlets sauteed with white wine, capers, caper berries, lemon, parsley, served with spaghetti tossed with toasted garlic and olive oil. $19
Briscola, Reno NV

The veal was over-breaded and disgusting. For a veal picatta, this dish lacked acid which is surprising considering there are cpares, caper berries, lemon peels, and a citrus based sauced! Then how did the kitchen still accomplish to make it devoid of citrus flavor? The side noodles are a throw away since they lacked any flavor or life, and just take up space. Horrible service and horrible food!

House salad - Briscola

I LOVE these fried chicken wings!!! They’re cooked to perfection and are so moist and flavorful. I can probably eat an entire platter of these by myself. NOMS!!!

Darby Dan sandwich – Darby Dan’s Sandwich Co.

Darby Dan sandwich - Darby Dan's Sandwich Co.
Ham, mortdadella, Italian salami, cheese, mayonnaise, garlic spread, mustard, crushed jalapenos, lettuce, and tomato on Dutch crunch bread. $7.75
Darby Dan Sandwich Co., South San Francisco CA

The sandwiches here are quite large and pretty good! They tend to pile on the spreads so if that doesn’t interest you, I’d suggest requesting a light application, hehe. I also love that their Dutch crunch bread is extra flaky on top!

Garlic nan – Pakwan

Garlic nan - Pakwan
Fresh tandoori oven baked bread with garlic and parsley. $1.99
Pakwan, San Francisco CA

There’s something magical about a fresh, warm piece of naan bread. The ones at Pakwan are light and fluffy and utterly delicious!

Ivy covered house, 17th Street

Ivy covered house, 17th Street. Ok, I get that some home owners like that old, natural look but this is a bit ridiculous. You can’t tell from the picture, but the only other portions of the house that are visible are parts of the upper windows. I would feel creeped out living in a completely plant-covered home.

Egg sandwich – Mission Beach Cafe

Egg sandwich - Mission Beach Cafe
Roasted tomato, caramelized onion, aged cheddar, garlic aioli and arugula on toasted English muffin, yukon gold potatoes. $9
Mission Beach Cafe, San Francisco CA

This sandwich may look small and normal, but the ingredients were super rich that it made the sandwich filling enough for one person. Because I had also ordered a side of biscuits and gravy, I couldn’t finish the sandwich by myself. The melted aged cheddar over the roasted tomato and caramelized onions was particularly delicious.

Ca tuyet kho to – Vung Tau Restaurant

Ca tuyet kho to - Vung Tau Restaurant
Sea bass caramelized with garlic, fish sauce and served in an earth pot. $16.95
Vung Tau Restaurant, San Jose CA

I laughed when they brought this out! This was the saddest clay pot I’d ever seen. The singular piece of fish was tiny (notice its size relative to the spoon), and it looked pathetic in the dried, crusty clay pot. They cooked the hell out of this dish so the fish was dry and the remnants of the sauce was super salty. Yuck! This was a complete rip off at seventeen bucks!

Outdoor patio party crowd mural, Mac’s Club. Gotta love the murals at this bar. This is a fun composition, espcially with the drag queen(?) chillin’ on the moon with a rainbow colored umbrella, hehe!
