Chicken burrito – Dabba

Chicken burrito - Dabba
Seasoned basmati rice, garbanzo beans, pickled carrots, tamarind, fruit chutney, herb chutney, yogurt. $12
Dabba, San Francisco CA

I thought this tasted fine, but it was mostly rice and kinda dry. I thought with the two kinds of chutney and yogurt that it was me more moist, but that wasn’t the case.

Ribeye omurice – Kitchen Story

Ribeye omurice - Kitchen Story
Marinated minced ribeye, scrambled eggs over jasmine rice, carrots, cherry pepper, spinach, scallion, demi glace sauce. Served with croissant, rainbow potatoes, fruit. $18
Kitchen Story, San Francisco CA

This was a really hearty breakfast and pretty tasty too! Since I’m such a gravy-lover, of course I loved the demi glace sauce (spelled “demi glazed sauce” on the menu). The scrambled eggs were fluffy and soft, but I wish the potatoes were cut a little bigger.

Combo over rice plate – Halal Cart

Combo over rice plate - Halal Cart
Lamb gyro and chicken with basmati rice, pita, and salad. $10
Halal Cart, San Francisco CA

I still love this combo plate for lunch. It’s definitely on the heavy side especially with all the white sauce and if you eat all of it at once. The hot sauce has been inconsistent the few times I’ve gone though. It was really hot to start with, but now it’s been kinda on the mild side. I like it when it’s on the hotter side.

Rabbit in mustard grain sauce – Cafe Bastille

Rabbit in mustard grain sauce - Cafe Bastille
Lapin a la moutarde. Served with braised greens and rice. Three course dinner prix fixe $35
Cafe Bastille, San Francisco CA

They say that rabbit tastes like chicken, and with this dish I think it looks exactly like chicken too. I love the slightly gamey flavor of rabbit and most of the time it’s very tender. This rabbit dish was tasty and super hearty.

Curry tonkatsu – Wasabi Bistro

Curry tonkatsu - Wasabi Bistro
Fried pork cutlet with curry, vegetables and rice. With additional tempura side. $12
Wasabi Bistro, San Francisco CA

Japanese curries can be really rich and heavy, but this dish was nice and balanced. I liked the addition of the vegetables to help neutralize the richness of the curry sauce and fried pork. And you can’t say no to pickled daikons!

Tempura - Wasabi Bistro
Fried shrimp and assorted vegetables.
