Roast beetroot salad – Oyster & Chop

Roast beetroot salad - Oyster & Chop
Shaved pickled beetroot, roast beetroot, candied walnuts, Drunken Nanny Ash goat’s cheese, lime and vanilla dressing $19 NZD
Oyster & Chop, Auckland NZ

Mmm, I loved this beet dish! It was so delicious and there was an amazing variety of flavors and textures. I especially liked the goat cheese spread underneath and the pea shoots on top.

Mediterranean calamari salad – Novy Restaurant

Mediterranean calamari salad - Novy Restaurant
Sauteed calamari, cucumber, Kalamata olives, roasted red pepper, pickled red onion, lime vinaigrette. $14
Novy Restaurant, San Francisco CA

I liked this salad. It tasted bright and delicious, and it was definitely on the healthy side. The calamari were nice and tender and not rubbery. Yum!

Combo over rice plate – Halal Cart

Combo over rice plate - Halal Cart
Lamb gyro and chicken with basmati rice, pita, and salad. $10
Halal Cart, San Francisco CA

I still love this combo plate for lunch. It’s definitely on the heavy side especially with all the white sauce and if you eat all of it at once. The hot sauce has been inconsistent the few times I’ve gone though. It was really hot to start with, but now it’s been kinda on the mild side. I like it when it’s on the hotter side.

Warm bread salad – Jardiniere

Warm bread salad - Jardiniere
Farmanova beet, arugula, crescenza. $16
Jardiniere, San Francisco CA

I liked this salad enough, but it was more of a leafy green salad with some bread thrown in than an actual bread salad. I liked the flavors, but I felt a little misled from the menu description. Definitely wouldn’t be on my list of things I have to try before I die.

Lemongrass pork salad box – Asian Box

Lemongrass pork salad box - Asian Box
Asian salad, bean sprouts, pickled vegetables, jalapeno, scallion oil, crispy shallots, chopped peanuts, fish sauce. $8.75
Asian Box, San Francisco CA

I love the flavors of their boxes, but they’re just not filling for me especially when it’s salad instead of rice. This time around, the lemongrass pork was a bit on the dry side. I’m glad that I got the fried shallots though – they tasted good.

Dungeness crab and bacon prawn cobb salad – Barking Frog

Dungeness crab and bacon prawn cobb salad - Barking Frog
Blue cheese, hard poached egg, tomato, avocado-champagne vinaigrette. $24
Barking Frog, Woodinville WA

Now this is my kind of salad! What’s not to love? You’ve got crab, prawns, bacon, eggs, blue cheese, and avocado. I’m in heaven! Even though I wasn’t feeling it at first, the service was actually really friendly (although M.I.A. at times).

Farmers lettuce salad – Volt

Farmers lettuce salad - Volt
Tuscarora Farms lettuce, avocado puree, diced cucumber, harissa vinaigrette, pickled shallots, toasted caraway seeds crumb. Tasting menu $95
Volt, Frederick MD

Maybe I’m just not a salad person, but this dish was lost on me. I guess I can appreciate the fresh ingredients and the techniques used to create all the components, but I still wasn’t satisfied eating this salad. To each his own…

Cheddar chive buttermilk biscuit - Volt
Cheddar chive buttermilk biscuit. This was SO good! I could live off these. 🙂
