Roasted chicken and potato gnocchi – Briscola

Roasted chicken and potato gnocchi - Briscola
House made potato gnocchi served with braised chicken, summer corn, roasted red peppers, green beans and finished with parmesan cheese. $18
Briscola, Reno NV

Is it just me or does this look like barf on a plate? The presentation is a joke! I should have known not to order this when the the title and description of the dish had contradicting information – roasted or braised chicken? I didn’t enjoy this dish one bit. The sauce was disgusting and tasted like it was out of a can. For some reason I imagined a substantial piece of chicken, not mutilated bits thrown in with the random veggies and gummy gnocchi. They should advertise this dish as their buffet leftovers gnocchi plate, seriously.

As a whole, this meal was a disaster and I would not recommend this place to anyone. The service was horrible and the food was marginal. Argh!

Red wines - Briscola

Rodney Strong, cabernet sauvignon, Sonoma 2010. $10
Columbia Crest “Les Cheveaux”, Washington 2010. $8
These wines were decent, but honestly their wine menu is definitely lacking for a “high end” restaurant.

Veal picatta – Briscola

Veal picatta - Briscola
Veal cutlets sauteed with white wine, capers, caper berries, lemon, parsley, served with spaghetti tossed with toasted garlic and olive oil. $19
Briscola, Reno NV

The veal was over-breaded and disgusting. For a veal picatta, this dish lacked acid which is surprising considering there are cpares, caper berries, lemon peels, and a citrus based sauced! Then how did the kitchen still accomplish to make it devoid of citrus flavor? The side noodles are a throw away since they lacked any flavor or life, and just take up space. Horrible service and horrible food!

House salad - Briscola
House salad for the table comes with entree orders. Meh.

Baby octopus – Briscola

Baby octopus - Briscola
With saffron and olive oil. $5
Briscola, Reno NV

I don’t expect baby octopus served in Reno to be the freshest in the world, but these were disgusting! You could definitely feel the defrosted texture of these sad creatures in your mouth. The saffron dipping sauce was also chalky. I’m gonna continue with another complaint of this abominable restaurant – the clueless waiter kept bringing us dishes we didn’t order and ended up charging us anyway. Sheesh!

Focaccia and crudite - Briscola
Focaccia and crudite. Complimentary
The focaccia was undercooked and still doughy in the middle, yuck! The large tomato cans that they use as stands at your table were a tacky touch.

Bruscetta – Briscola

Bruscetta - Briscola
Fresh tomato, basil, balsamic vinaigrette reduction, olive oil. $6
Briscola, Reno NV

High end my ass! This restaurant was a joke, and the food was marginal at best. The tomatoes were over ripe and over dressed. The bread was old and so dry that they disintegrated in your mouth upon contact. Gross!

Breadsticks - Briscola
