Baby gems with a creamy pesto dressing, topped with chives and toasted almonds. Small $8
Little Star Pizza, San Francisco CA
I’m not a big salad guy (I like to eat meat), but this goddess salad was delicious. The simple combination of the pesto dressing and toasted almonds on top of the large, crisp gem lettuce was perfect. And the small order was perfect for two people. Yum!
Wyder’s pear cider. $5
Conk/polypore fungus (Ganoderma?), Bon Tempe Lake.
Pho bo. Sliced beef with flat rice noodles, onions, and chives. Served with basil, greens, limes, and habanero peppers. Regular 65,000 VND
Pho 2000, Ho Chi Minh City VIETNAM
I think I like beef pho better than chicken pho. The broth has a lot more flavor and I think it’s more fun to eat with chopsticks, especially if you have to try and separate the thin slices of beef. This soup was very tasty and such a great value!
Communist flower bed, Cong Vien 23 Thang 9.
Pho ga. Sliced chicken breast with flat rice noodles, onions, and chives. Served with basil, greens, limes, and habanero peppers. Regular 65,000 VND
Pho 2000, Ho Chi Minh City VIETNAM
This was the first real meal we had in Vietnam and it was pretty good. The broth was delicious and it was SUPER cheap! The place was packed with tourists and locals alike. This is when I realized that we would be served lots of random greens that we wouldn’t recognize, and also that restaurants charge for wet naps. 🙂
Basil, leaf stalks that I’ve never seen before, limes, and habanero peppers.
Ben Thanh Night Market. Watch out for the crazy scooters zipping by while the market is setting up!
Bacon, pickled jalapeno and chive. $13
Park Tavern, San Francisco CA
Mmm, these were amazing! I hated deviled eggs as a kid, but I have really come to appreciate them as an adult. Especially the fancy varieties that other people make, hehe. These were jam packed with flavor and everything worked spectacularly together.
7×7 Magazine’s The Big Eat San Francisco: 100 Things to Eat + Drink Before You Die – 2012, 2013
Fried Chinese pancake filled with green chives, glass noodles, and egg. $5.95
Dumpling Empire, South San Francisco CA
I liked the flavor of these pancakes, but the outsides were on the greasy side. I love the sharpness of the Chinese chives though. They also give you two whole pancakes so it’s a good value.
Beautiful thread agave (Agave filifera, Asparagaceae), West Field Road.
A Taste of Yauatcha menu £28.88 for 2 people
Yauatcha, London ENGLAND
These were more your typical dim sum dumpling items so this steam tray was more familiar than the others (and maybe a little more boring). The two kinds of dumplings were actually really good though. The har gow is a tried and true standard. I’m not completely sure what all was in the fen guo dumpling, but I would guess it was a mixture of pork, shrimp, garlic chives, mushrooms and peanuts.
Golden aster martini: Buffalo Trace bourbon, Antica forumula sweet vermouth, Aperol, saffron, lemon and chilli syrup. £9.80
Aged Vesper martini: Tanqueray No. Ten gin, Belvedere vodka and Lillet Blanc vermouth. £9.90
These cocktails were nicely made and delicious!
Oxford Circus with cute London cabs.
Salade d’endives au bleu des causses. Blue cheese, tomato, carrot, chives. 10€
Ma Bourgogne, Paris FR
This was a simple but very tasty endive salad! The blue cheese came in large cubes tossed with the chopped endives in the center of the plate and was simply dressed.
Paris Plages 2013. During Paris Plages, they create artificial beach areas along the northern bank of the Seine River. These sandy oases were great because it was SO hot while we were there. They even have misters, showers, and plenty of food/beverage stations and seating areas. And of course the people watching was spectacular! 😉
Pork, black beans, cheddar, sour cream, chives, bbq sauce. Happy hour $5
Bitterroot BBQ, Seattle WA
Noms, these nachos were super tasty and I loved the bbq sauce they drizzled on top. The pulled pork was also delicious and flavorful.
Decorative sidewalk cover, Pike Place Market.
Ahi tuna ceviche on taro chips topped with aioli and chives. Happy hour $5
Anthony’s HomePort, Seattle WA
These were delicious, refreshing bites. The ahi mixture was a little sweet and perfect to enjoy on a bright sunny day.
View of the Puget Sound from our table at Anthony’s HomePort. It was SO beautiful during my last visit to Seattle. It was great to sit at the Anthony’s back patio and enjoy the sun and water.
Filled with shrimp and chives. 3 for $1.60
Good Luck Dim Sum, San Francisco CA
I’m not really sure why these are called crystal dumplings since they use the same kind of wrapper on most of the other dumplings but just have a slightly different shape. Hmm… Anyway, they were still delicious, hehe!
Random wall, Divisadero Street. I really like the color of this painted ball the random tag on one of the bricks.
SO yummy! These are one of my favorite dim sum items. 3 for $1.60
Good Luck Dim Sum, San Francisco CA
Colorful mural with Brassica and Castilleja flowers, 22nd Street.
