Super burrito al pastor - Taqueria Cancun
Marinated pork with rice, beans, cilantro, salsa, onions, cheese, avocado, and sour cream. Served with corn totilla chips. $6.50
Taqueria Cancun, San Francisco CA

Wow, this place is a mad house at 2 AM! I was in desparate need of food so I stumbled into this joint for a large, delicious burrito. I’m pretty sure it was good, I think… Lol! The intercom announcing the order numbers is REALLY loud, but I supposed that’s necessary at that hour. 🙂

Poached eggs and charcoal-grilled king salmon hash – Universal Cafe

Poached eggs king salmon hash - Universal Cafe
With leeks, onions, fennel, creme fraiche, salsa verde. $16
Universal Cafe, San Francisco CA

Mmm, this was good. Very delcious and comforting food. I kinda wish the salmon was in bigger chunks but I understand that it was a hash. It was also very pretty with the salsa verde on the poached eggs.

Yankee pot roast – Trio Restaurant

Yankee pot roast - Trio Restaurant
Slow roasted with carrots and pearl onions over sour cream mashed potatoes. $19
Trio Restaurant, Palm Springs CA

This was pretty good and the beef was tender. I enjoyed that the roast had a good amount of fat for extra flavor. It was definitely a comforting dish.

Evening happens pretty quickly in PS because of the mountains on the western side of the city.

Rock cod filet in black bean sauce – Grand Palace Restaurant

Rock cod filet in black bean sauce - Grand Palace Restaurant
With green and red bell peppers, onions, served with steamed rice. Lunch special $7.25

Mmm, fish in black bean sauce is always a winner for me! Soft fish filets with a salty sauce with juicy veggies, heck yeah!

Green squash and olive vegan focaccia – Arizmendi Bakery

Green squash and olive vegan focaccia - Arizmendi Bakery
With onions and poblano peppers. $2.50
Arizmendi Bakery, San Francisco

The focaccia bread at Arizmendi is delicious! I’ve found the simpler the toppings, the better. I’ve had the ones with tomato sauce and they weren’t as yummy.

Egg sandwich – Mission Beach Cafe

Egg sandwich - Mission Beach Cafe
Roasted tomato, caramelized onion, aged cheddar, garlic aioli and arugula on toasted English muffin, yukon gold potatoes. $9
Mission Beach Cafe, San Francisco CA

This sandwich may look small and normal, but the ingredients were super rich that it made the sandwich filling enough for one person. Because I had also ordered a side of biscuits and gravy, I couldn’t finish the sandwich by myself. The melted aged cheddar over the roasted tomato and caramelized onions was particularly delicious.

Combination seafood with spicy basil – Thai House Express

Combination seafood with spicy basil - Thai House Express
Sauteed shrimp, squid, and scallop with onions, chili, carrot, bell pepper and basil leaves. A la carte $13.95
Thai House Express, San Francisco CA

I like the flavors in there, but the squid was a bit overcooked so it was tough to chew. The service also tends to be inconsistent. It ranges from the most attentive service to having to flag down the waiter depending on the night.

Breakfast plate – The Lowcountry Grill

Untitled
Scrambled eggs, three bacon strips, and “All the way” hashbrowns topped with ham, onions, green bell peppers and cheese. $7.79
The Lowcountry Grill, Charleston International Airport (CHS)

I was hungover from the night before so I thought that this large, greasy breakfast plate would do me good but it made me feel even worse, lol! It’s nothing against the food because it was exactly what I expected – a basic, no-frills plate. It tasted a little bland, and there was so much of it! The food ended up being too rich and fatty for my tummy. 😦

Basil tilapia – Basil Thai Restaurant

Basil tilapia - Basil Thai Restaurant
Lightly floured, deep fried tilapia fillets, topped with vegetables, stir-fry sauce, side of carrots, cabbage, and lettuce. $16.95
Basil Thai Restaurant, Charleston SC

Mmm, this was very tasty! Having traveled through Thailand, I think I can say that this wasn’t authentic Thai food, but it certainly had a lot of flavor and was nicely prepared.

Rustic skillet – Crave

Rustic skillet - Crave
Country ham, red bliss potato hash, caramelized onion, roasted red bell peppers, all sauteed together served with scrambled eggs and topped with black pepper gravy. Includes corn bread muffins, fresh fruit, and coffee. $11
Crave, Mount Pleasant SC

Argh, this looked SO good on the menu but it was SO frickin’ salty! And you know it’s gotta be super salty if I’m complaining because I’m usually a total salt monger. The ham and the gravy were the saltiest coomponents, but after a while everything just tasted salty and I had to stop eating.

Cornbread muffin - Crave
Cornbread muffin with butter. Mmm, these were SO delicous, warm, and fluffy!

Duck roasted on the bone – McCrady’s Restaurant

Duck roasted on the bone - McCrady's Restaurant
Allium, sumac and African blue basil. 4 course dinner $60
McCrady’s Restaurant, Charleston SC

Duck roasted on the bone - McCrady's Restaurant
There were so many components to this dish, but all I could think was, “Where’s the bone?” I guess it doesn’t say that the duck is actually served with it, but the “bone” is so prominent on the menu description that I just assumed it would be. Along with the cut of roasted duck breast is a seared tower of duck thighs! I actually preferred the thighs, lol, but the breast was perfectly cooked and very flavorful as well. I enjoyed that they included all parts of the allium prepared in different ways, the grilled bulbs were SO sweet and delicious! The white rice and onion sauce was on the boring side, but the duck reduction(?) was delicious. This dish is one the heavy side, so pace yourself! Hehe.

Kassem’s Plate with chicken – Ali Baba

Kassem's Plate with chicken - Ali Baba
Chicken shawerma with pickled onions and parsley, served with rice and choice of salad. $10.35
Ali Baba, South San Francisco CA

The chicken in this dish was dry, which was an unfortunate theme. I really liked the rice though! It had lentils in it which gave it a great texture. A pretty good value if that’s what you’re looking for.

Yogurt cucumber salatat - Ali Baba
Yogurt cucumber salatat (diced cucumber salad with yogurt and mint). This was pretty tasty, but maybe a little too yogurt-y. It did help balance out the dry chicken though.
