Caramelized fish clay pot – Vietnamese Kitchen

Caramelized fish clay pot - Vietnamese Kitchen
Ca kho to. With chilies and scallions, served with steamed rice. 114,000 VND
Vietnamese Kitchen, Ho Chi Minh City VIETNAM

And this was the final straw! This sad clay pot with a single tiny slice of fish came out super salty and dry. Don’t be fooled with the illustrated menu depicting a lush clay pot with multiple pieces of fish. It’ll come to your table as sad as this picture looks! I love Vietnamese food but this restaurant gave a horrible representation of their delicious cuisine. Vietnamese Kitchen is getting away with highway robbery charging this much for crap food! Ugh, I guess you have to eat shitty food to appreciate the good meals. Lame…

Stir fried chicken with lemongrass – Vietnamese Kitchen

Stir fried chicken with lemongrass - Vietnamese Kitchen
Ga xao xa ot. With chilies and onions, served with steamed rice. 114,000 VND
Vietnamese Kitchen, Ho Chi Minh City VIETNAM

Omg, this chicken was SO horrible! It was probably the driest chicken I’ve eaten in a really long time and it tasted old. Ugh, I couldn’t eat more than a few bites. This restaurant is ridiculous for charging so much for really disgusting food.

Chinese New Year decorations
Parts of the city were still splashed with Chinese New Year decorations, but they were slowly removed as the week progressed.

Green mango salad – Vietnamese Kitchen

Green mango salad - Vietnamese Kitchen
Goi xoal kho sac. With dried fish, shrimp chips, and red chilies. 94,000 VND
Vietnamese Kitchen, Ho Chi Minh City VIETNAM

This place sucked! The food was mediocre at best, overpriced, and the service was rude and surly! This green mango salad was slimy and SUPER salty. I’m the last person to complain about saltiness because I love it, but this was TOO much. I really wish we hadn’t eaten here!

Mongolian beef – Jasmine Tea House

Mongolian beef
This dish was really good. There was a lot of tender slices of beef in there and they also packed in a lot of onions, scallions, garlic, and chilies. Definitely worth a re-order. $8.75

Larb gai – Sweet Basil Thai Cuisine

Larb gai - Sweet Basil Thai Cuisine
Minced white meat chicken, red onion, cilantro, scallions, chilies, lime, ordered “hot”. $7.95
Sweet Basil Thai Cuisine, San Francisco CA

I love larb! The rice powder gives it a great texture and I love the bright citrus flavors of the dish. The dish is also relative healthy compared to the other fried Thai options. I think it’s probably still high in sodium though. Mmm!

Chicken green curry – Tuk Tuk Noodle Bar

Chicken green curry - Tuk Tuk Noodle Bar
Spicy curry with green chilies, coconut milk, bamboo shoots, Thai aubergines and lime leaves. Set Menu A £11.80 per person
Tuk Tuk Noodle Bar, London ENGLAND

Yuck, this green curry was gross! It had a thick, gloppy consistency and was utterly unappetizing. There was also an odd bitter taste that I couldn’t figure out. Definitely one of the worst Thai curries I’ve tasted.

Avocado and poached egg – The Breakfast Club

Avocado and poached egg - The Breakfast Club
With fresh chillies and lime on toasted multigrain bloomer, and chorizo. £9
The Breakfast Club, London ENGLAND

Omg, this is not what we expected! Is this a normal English breakfast dish? We were surprised to be served a couple pieces of toast covered with a huge pile of guacamole topped with a poached egg, lol! We almost burst out laughing when it came to the table because it was so unexpected. It tasted ok enough. The avocado could have been seasoned a bit more though. The chorizo was optional and I’m glad we added it because it made the plate more substantial.

Juices - The Breakfast Club

Slow Boy juice: apple, carrot, orange, ginger. £4.10
Orange juice. £3
Mmm, the Slow Boy juice was very tasty as was the orange juice. They juice everything to order so it was nice and fresh!

Chinatown gate. I was surprised that compare to San Francisco, London’s Chinatown was super small! Huh.
