South Carolina peaches - McCrady's Restaurant
This was a wonderful way to end a marvelous meal! Since I totally ordered on the “heavy” side for the previous courses, this light and refreshing dessert was just what I needed. The shiso biscuit and leaves were delightful and tasted great with the peaches and sorbet. Mmm, noms!

Window planter with leopard plant (Ligularia sp., Asteraceae)

Beautiful window planter with a hardy leopard plant (Ligularia sp., Asteraceae). This planter was a few doors down from McCrady’s and the Ligularia was absolutely stunning with it’s large, shiny green leaves and small yellow composite flowers.

This was a new one for me – a horchata cocktail! And it was SO delicious! They used rice flour and lots of other ingredients as you can see. The result is a super refreshing and scrumptious cocktail with lots of flavor and a wonderful texture!

Duck roasted on the bone - McCrady's Restaurant
There were so many components to this dish, but all I could think was, “Where’s the bone?” I guess it doesn’t say that the duck is actually served with it, but the “bone” is so prominent on the menu description that I just assumed it would be. Along with the cut of roasted duck breast is a seared tower of duck thighs! I actually preferred the thighs, lol, but the breast was perfectly cooked and very flavorful as well. I enjoyed that they included all parts of the allium prepared in different ways, the grilled bulbs were SO sweet and delicious! The white rice and onion sauce was on the boring side, but the duck reduction(?) was delicious. This dish is one the heavy side, so pace yourself! Hehe.

Charleston shrimp - McCrady's Restaurant
I’m used to having shrimp and grits when I visit Charleston, but this was a nice change. The shrimp were beautifully cooked, and I was surprised at how much I liked the vegetables underneath. While this dish could have veered toward the heavy side, the individual flavors remained delicate and unmuddled. I will say that the dish as a whole was on the salty side. I think the sauce underneath could have been the culprit. 😦

Strube Ranch wagyu beef tartare – McCrady’s Restaurant

Strube Ranch wagyu beef tartare - McCrady's Restaurant
Egg yolk, cress and ramps. 4 course dinner $60
McCrady’s Restaurant, Charleston SC

This was such an exciting dish! The pork skin was so freshly fried that it was still crackling on the plate, and the cress looked beautiful on top of it. (I’m guessing that it was pork skin and not beef skin, hehe.) The egg yolk was cleverly presented as a solid “log” beside the tartare instead of mixed into it. I’m not sure where the ramps were, unless they were chopped into the beef. Everything tasted amazing, even down to the grilled piece of bread!

This restaurant was recommended by a friend, so I arrived for an early dinner expecting great service and delicious food. I can tell you right now, that I received both! This cocktail was a great way to start off my meal. It was bright and refreshing tasting and had a beautiful peach-pink color.

Bar area - McCrady's Restaurant

The restaurant had just opened so I choose a table facing the bar so that I could people-watch as my meal progressed. The bar was quite tall, extending up to the open second floor and appeared cozy and warm from all the rich woods and leather.
