Yankee pot roast – Trio Restaurant

Yankee pot roast - Trio Restaurant
Slow roasted with carrots and pearl onions over sour cream mashed potatoes. $19
Trio Restaurant, Palm Springs CA

This was pretty good and the beef was tender. I enjoyed that the roast had a good amount of fat for extra flavor. It was definitely a comforting dish.

Evening falls on Palm Springs
Evening happens pretty quickly in PS because of the mountains on the western side of the city.

Eggs in purgatory – Jake’s

Eggs in purgatory - Jake's
Sunny side eggs over a bed of baked tomatoes, cheese, olives and sausage served with potatoes and fruit. $11
Jake’s, Palm Springs CA

This wasn’t what I thought it was gonna be, hehe! I thought it was gonna be more of a hash. The baked tomatoes, olives, and sauage are actually underneath the eggs and they tasted weird. I think it was kind of an odd combination of flavors and would have worked better as a hash anyway.

Fresh fig salad – Trio Restaurant

Fresh fig salad - Trio Restaurant
Figs, arugula, fresh ricotta, chopped hazelnuts, honey and white wine vinaigrette. $9
Trio Restaurant, Palm Springs CA

Ew, this salad was sweeter than dessert! The honey and white wine vinaigrette was WAY too sweet and the fresh ricotta and pulverized hazelnuts added a weird texture to this sad, overly dressed salad.

Shaking beef – Jiao

Shaking beef - Jiao
Served over lettuce with cherry tomatoes, red bell pepper, red onion, cucumber, lime, and fried shallots. $16
Jiao, Palm Springs CA

Shaking beef - Jiao
This was a great light version of shaking beef! I was pleasantly surprised that it came out as more of a large salad than a pile of meat. Surprising for me, I know, but I was in the mood for a lighter meal that day.

Seafood stew - Trio Restaurant
Mussels, clams, shrimp and whitefish in a tomato and fennel broth. $22

This was one of the dishes that I actually liked at Trio. This stew was super flavorful and had plenty of seafood. Thank goodness dinner wasn’t a complete disappointment!

King crab sui mai dumplings – Jiao

King crab sui mai dumplings - Jiao
Jiao is my new go-to restaurant in Palm Springs for delicious Asian-inspired small plates! These crab sui mai, though, were probably my least favorite thing I’ve had there. They were bland and you could barely taste any of the crab! The wrapper was also dry. $7
Jiao, Palm Springs CA

Dipping sauces - Jiao

Assorted dipping sauces. The crunchy one is my favorite! They’re all a bit salty, but I seem to douse every dish with some combination of these sauces, lol!

Trimmed palm trees
I love that they trim to old palm fronds that hang down on the palm trees. They look like tight pencil skirts!

Corned beef with Swiss cheese sandwich – Sherman’s Deli and Bakery

It’s piled up high on our deli rye bread and includes lettuce, sliced tomato. Our Swiss cheese has less holes! Served with potato salad. $12.95
Sherman’s Deli and Bakery, Palm Springs CA

Mmm! I can’t say enough about the awesome sandwiches at Sherman’s. The meats are perfect and the rye bread tastes SO good. Definitely bring your appetite!

Pickles and sauerkraut - Sherman's Deli and Bakery
Pickles and sauerkraut. Complimentary. I like that these aren’t overly pickled. They’re delicious!

Roasted baby beet salad – Trio Restaurant

Roasted baby beet salad - Trio Restaurant
Baby beets, mixed greens, pecans, blue cheese, citrus sections, balsamic vinaigrette. $9
Trio Restaurant, Palm Springs CA

You can’t really tell, but there are tiny pieces of roasted beets in there – I swear! That was another disappointing thing about this restaurant – if I’m ordering a beet salad, I think the beets should be a prominent component! Ugh!

Hot pastrami with tongue sandwich – Sherman’s Deli and Bakery

Hot pastrami with tongue sandwich - Sherman's Deli and Bakery
It’s a real mouthful! We serve it on deli rye bread with lettuce and tomato. A great combination. Served with cole slaw. $14.45
Sherman’s Deli and Bakery, Palm Springs CA

Wow, this sandwich was a true MONSTER! It was really two sandwiches stacked up into one. The meats were SO delciious and the rye bread was light and fluffy. I love Sherman’s!
