Tom yum khung – Original Thai Cuisine

Tom yum khung – Original Thai Cuisine
Thai spicy lemon grass soup with shrimp, mushrooms, red onions, tomatoes, Chinese parsley and Thai herbs. Cup $6.50
Original Thai Cuisine, Kailua-Kona HI

We decided to switch it up with food and find out how Hawaiians do Thai! We had mixed reviews. The soups were really good and flavorful. $6.50 is normally a lot for a cup of soup, but they’re actually the size of bowls. We didn’t know this place was BYOB otherwise we would have brought a case, lol!

Wild mushroom ravioli - Eureka Restaurant and Lounge
With truffled mascarpone. $18
Eureka Restaurant & Lounge, San Francisco CA

Mmm, this is true comfort food! You can’t go wrong with a delicious mushroom ravioli and the truffled mascarpone puts it over the top. I like how the truffle flavor isn’t overpowering and that you can taste and enjoy the other components. Noms!

Tacos Chava’s – Chava’s Restaurant

Tacos Chava's - Chava's Restaurant
Beef, bell pepper, onion, tomato, and mushroom. Served with rice and refried beans. $8.75
Chava’s Restaurant, San Francisco CA

Ugh, this was the first time I’ve been here and I wasn’t impressed. The beef was super chewy and the whole thing just had a weird flavor. You should never name a dish after your restaurant if it isn’t very good. 😦

Tortilla chips and salsa - Chava's Restaurant
Tortilla chips and salsa. These chips tasted old and were stale, ew.

Fresh mushrooms, onion, tomato, two poached eggs, and cheddar cheese. Served with hash browns and wheat toast. $8.25
Red Cafe, San Francisco CA

This small, busy neighborhood diner in the Mission serves delicious breakfast standards at very reasonable prices. The service is friendly and quick, but be prepared to wait unless you can squeeze yourself into the counter since this place is a popular breakfast joint. My food was no-frills, straight forward, and tasty.

I really liked this omelette. It had simple ingredients, but it was executed perfectly. The egg was fluffy and I really enjoyed the peppery arugula folded inside.

Confit pork cheeks – Social Wine Bar

Confit pork cheeks - Social Wine Bar
Smoked pecans, mushrooms, polenta, blackberry jus. $15
Social Wine Bar, Charleston SC

Mmm, this was a very tasty dish! The pork cheeks were super tender and flavorful and I enjoyed all the different components on the plate. The sweet blackberry jus tasted great with the hearty protein, and the pecans added some crunch against the creamy polenta. I also loved the presentation!

Dry fried chicken wings - San Tung Restaurant
Mmm, these fried chicken wings were delicious! I kinda wish I ordered them “dry”, but I couldn’t resist the sticky sweet sauce of their “wet” version. This is one of their most popular dishes and now I know why! The wings are sizable, perfectly fried, and oh so flavorful.

Spicy mixed seafood and tofu claypot – Jun Ming Xuan

Spicy mixed seafood and tofu claypot - Jun Ming Xuan
Calamari, shrimp, scallop, white fish, fried tofu, mushroom, cabbage, chilies, green onions. Β£12.80
Jun Ming Xuan Chinese Restaurant, London ENGLAND

This was pretty good and there was plenty of it! I liked that they used fried tofu instead of fresh tofu because I prefer the texture. There was also a nice helping of seafood in there. I just wish the dish was a little spicier!

Tower of London, Her Majesty's Royal Palace and Fortress
Tower of London, Her Majesty’s Royal Palace and Fortress. Home to the Crown Jewels of the United Kingdom, this historic castle is a very popular tourist attraction. We didn’t want to wait in line and, instead, opted to be outside to enjoy the much welcomed sun that day. I’m not crazy about the weird lion statues they installed in front of the fortress. They look out of place.
