Classic breakfast – Wolfgang Puck Express

Classic breakfast Wolfgang Puck Express

Scrambled eggs, sausage, potatoes, and wheat toast. $8.89
Wolfgang Puck Express, CMH Columbus OH

I was SO hungry and this was SO disappointing! The eggs were such a weird consistency, the toast was limp, the potatoes were boring, and they didn’t have bacon so I had to get sausage. Super lame! And they were so frickin’ slow!

Coffee Wolfgang Puck Express

Coffee. $1.69
I hated this cheap coffee cup.

Cornmeal dusted calamari – Hubbard Grille

Cornmeal dusted calamari Hubbard Grille

Served with Sriracha garlic aioli and lemon. $11 ($5.50 for Sunday happy hour)
Hubbard Grille, Columbus OH

These were really tasty. I loved the Sriracha garlic aioli. Some of the squid pieces were kinda greasy so I had to leave them in the bowl – I think they were cooked at too low a temperature. Other than that, I enjoyed these and I’m glad that they included plenty of the tentacles.

Prince Edward Isle mussels – Hubbard Grille

Prince Edward Isle mussels Hubbard Grille

Chef’s beer selection, basil and sundried tomatoes, served with toasted baguette slices and lemon wedge. $12 ($6 for Sunday happy hour)
Hubbard Grille, Columbus OH

I’m glad that these mussels weren’t overcooked. The shellfish was still plump and juicy, yay! I really liked the broth too. Perhaps it was the beer, hehe!

Short ribs and shrimp – Hubbard Grille

Short ribs and shrimp Hubbard Grille

Pulled beef short rib and three sauteed shrimp, white cheddar grits and spicy tomato jus, garnished with chopped scallions. $13 ($6.50 for Sunday happy hour)
Hubbard Grille, Columbus OH

Mmm, I really enjoyed this! I think it’s the perfect share – not too big and absolutely delicious! I loved all the different flavors and textures. Everything was perfect! Ok, almost perfect. The shrimp were slightly overcooked, but who cares! This was definitely my favorite snack that we ordered.

Legendary cocktails – Hubbard Grille

“Hubbard Grille was proud to host our ‘Become Legendary’ cocktail-naming contest in which patrons submitted cocktail names. Fans voted & celebrity judges deliberated, listed below are the nine newly named cocktails, try one and enjoy! All cocktails are $10.” – Hubbard menu

But on Sundays, the cocktails are only $5. Heck yeah! I liked that the cocktails were tried were very different and all of them tasty. Sundays at Hubbard are the way to go!

Hubbard Grille beer

We sat at one of the tables next to the bar that has a couple beer spouts attached. Unfortunately, they were experiencing a glitch in their system to the spouts were working that day, but it’s a great idea. Apparently your table is charged by the amount of beer that you pour.

The homestead breakfast – Bob Evans

Eggs and bacon Bob Evans

Named after Bob and Jewell Evans’ original farmhouse, this classic includes all of your breakfast favorites: Bob Evans bacon (or sausage), two eggs (ordered over medium), grits (or hashbrown or home fries), a cup of creamy sausage gravy and two biscuits. $9.29
Bob Evans, Gahanna OH

This is apparently a Bob Evans favorite and I can see why. You get a whole lotta food! I couldn’t even begin to finish this order. I don’t know how many calories was in this thing, but I actually enjoyed most of it. The sausage gravy was really thick and delicious. I doused the grits with spoonfuls of it and went to town. The biscuits were also very fluffy and buttery. Not a place I would frequent because I would grow to the size of a house, but it was good to visit this place since we don’t have them in the Bay Area.

Pepperoni pizza – Mikey’s Late Night Slice

Pepperoni pizza Mikey's Late Night Slice

So after a long night at a birthday party, Taj Mahaj bar, then Level we walk outside and find a pizza truck outside the bar, amen! I guess anything would have tasted great at that point. Although I had plenty to drink, I have to say that I wasn’t all that impressed with this pizza. I’ll pass next time. $3

Mocha cappuccino cake – Golden Delight Bakery

Mocha cappuccino cake Golden Delight Bakery

Coffee espresso flavored cake and frosting with coffee bean decorations.
Golden Delight Bakery, Gahanna OH

I preferred this mocha cappucino cake over the fresh strawberry cake because the coffee flavor was strong enough to distract from the weird frosting texture, lol! I actually thought these cakes were pretty good, so I’m not trying to knock them. Again, they’re super light and this one was especially flavorful.

Yellow cake with white frosting and strawberry filling, topped with strawberries and kiwis.

Codes had these cakes for his birthday, and they were really good! The cake is REALLY light and I guess they don’t use butter (at least in the frosting?) so it doesn’t taste super heavy and sinful. I’ll admit that I wasn’t a fan of the frosting texture though.

Sushi lovers plate – Asian Gourmet & Sushi Bar

Sushi lovers plate Asian Gourmet & Sushi Bar

3 maguro (tuna), 3 sake (salmon), 3 hamachi (yellowtail), 3 unagi (eel), 3 hirame (halibut – we substituted this for the California roll). Served with miso soup. $33 + $3 substitution charge
Asian Gourmet & Sushi Bar, Gahanna OH

This looks really pretty on the plate, but this wasn’t all that great in terms of fresh sushi. The fish was of OK quality and the pieces were super cold (recently defrosted? ew). I’m just glad that they didn’t taste fishy and old. I’m still hoping that I can get good sushi in Ohio! The service was friendly though. This restuarant was SO weird though because it had food from all different Asian countries. It’s like the corner shops in San Francisco that have burgers, Chinese food, and donuts! Can you really trust that they can make any of it authentically or decently?

VicenteSF and Codes go to White Castle!

Project 365: Day 60

Wow, what a long day! Had a great time at Codes’ birthday party last night. I do remember a couple funny moments. During the birthday banquet, some college frat guy walks by our table and because I was partially obstructing the walkway with my chair he politely says to me, “Excuse me, sir.” Sir! Omfg, I kinda freaked out, lol! But I also thought it was funny. Then at Taj Mahal, I was ordering another round at the bar and a group of three young college dudes (I’m sure from OSU since it’s down the street) look and me and say, “Well you look dapper!” LOL! Oh, kids can be so funny some times!

Anyway, today we ran more errands, visited Codes’ house, had drinks at Union, had more drinks and food at Hubbard, then went back to Union for even more drinks. I’ve never been to a White Castle so I had to go and try it after the bars. Omg, these things was so cute and cheap!

These sliders are definitely easy to eat. They practically melt in your mouth! That’s probably why people can eat so many of them. I also tried the chicken rings, but they weren’t all that great. I don’t know what I was expecting but they were kinda limp and didn’t have too much flavor without the bbq sauce.

Buckeye roll – Asian Gourmet & Sushi Bar

Project 365: Day 59

Running around town(s) performing errands before Codes’ birthday party tonight. Just went and bought 10 potted orchids for centerpieces, dropped some stuff off at the event site, then gonna help prepare some food for the buffet. That sounds like a lot, but it’s actually been a pretty chill day. We kinda partied a little too hard last night and now we’re not feeling so spectacular today, hehe! At least I’ll look cute tonight!

Buckeye roll Asian Gourmet & Sushi Bar

Tuna, salmon, yellowtail, cream cheese, avocado, flash fried, topped with spicy tuna, spicy mayo, wasabi mayo, scallions, unagi sauce, masago. $12
Asian Gourmet & Sushi Bar, Gahanna OH

This monster roll had A LOT going on! Actually, there was too much going on and you really couldn’t figure out what everything was. It tasted great though, but so does everything that’s deep fried. I guess I ordered it because I AM in Buckeye territory and I thought that it’d be a safe bet in terms of sushi in a midwestern state. I remember having sushi in Ohio last year, and it was horrible. This wasn’t that bad.
