Mango ice - Halowich
Shaved ice with mango soft serve, mango, banana, pineapple, watermelon, jackfruit, red bean, powdered milk, condensed milk and chocolate sauce, topped with a cherry. 150 PHP
Halowich – Boracay PHILIPPINES

Omg, it’s been really hot here in San Francisco this week so I thought I’d post this awesome halo-halo dessert from Boracay! This thing was monster and so delicious to eat on a hot sunny day. I’m not sure how much sugar is packed in this cup, but I don’t want to know! Just shove it into my belly. 🙂

Breakfast #3 – Boracay Regency

Breakfast #3 - Boracay Regency
Beef, pork, garlic rice, scrambled eggs, bacon, pancit.
Boracay Regency, Boracay PHILIPPINES

Ugh, I couldn’t stop filling my breakfast plate with SO much food every morning! I really didn’t have to eat so much and I wasn’t even that hungry, but I couldn’t pass up on tasting a little bit of everything. Hehe!

Breakfast #3 - Boracay Regency
Waffle, ube (purple yam) bun, fruit, cheese bun.

Mimi’s fried chicken dinner – Hutch Bar & Kitchen

Mimi's fried chicken dinner - Hutch Bar & Kitchen
Steamed rice, sherry herb gravy, buttermilk biscuits, squash casserole. Per person $20
Hutch Bar & Kitchen, Oakland CA

Omg, talk about value – there was so much food on this plate for 2 people! We definitely took a lot of this home. The chicken was really good, and I was really happy about the steamed rice. It had a soft consistency almost liked mashed potatoes and tasted great with the sherry herb gravy. The squash casserole was really salty so it wasn’t my favorite. The biscuit tasted good, but were on the hard, dense side.

The Boulevardier cocktail - Hutch Bar & Kitchen
The Boulevardier: Bulleit bourbon, gran classic, aperol, orange twist. $11

Chicken and chorizo paella – Cozina

Chicken and chorizo paella - Cozina
Half order 600 PHP
Cozina, Boracay PHILIPPINES

I wasn’t too impressed with this paella. I think they precook it and then reheat ordered portions in the paella pan because there wasn’t a delicious, crusty layer of rice on the bottom that you get from cooking the paella in the pan the entire time. The flavors were ok, but I thought the quality was mediocre.

Lentils, lamb and barramundi – Radio Africa & Kitchen

French green lentils - Radio Africa & Kitchen
French green lentils with spinach and goat cheese. Pre fixe menu
Radio Africa & Kitchen, San Francisco CA

After we saw this plated trio, we knew we were gonna be full! The items were all really different and very tasty. I thought that the column of French green lentils was creative and beautifully presented. The lamb prepared two ways was good, and the barramundi had a nice flavor. Everything was pretty heavy though so we had to pace ourselves. 🙂

Crispy tilapia – Mesa

Crispy tilapia - Mesa
Fried boneless tilapia served with four sauces. 290 PHP
Mesa, Boracay PHILIPPINES

Crispy tilapia - Mesa
Hmm, the tilapia actually wasn’t that crispy when it arrived to our table. The fried chunks of fist were getting soggy from sitting out too long perhaps. I liked that they garnished the dish with the deep fried fish heads and attached bodies. The sauces were also fun to mix and match. I just wish the tilapia had been crispier and less mealy.

After dinner drinks – Pat’s Creek Bar

Margarita - Pat's Creek Bar
Margarita. Happy hour 90 PHP

Happy hours can last for quite a while in Boracay. This one at Pat’s was form 4-8, but it’s often difficult to know whether you’re actually getting a deal since the prices are inflated from the beginning and they always seem to pour weakly during happy hour anyway. When in doubt, just stick with beer. 🙂

Entertainment at Pat’s Creek Bar. The bands that played at Pat’s were actually really good. I think the musicians on the island just kinda rotate between all the restaurants and bars though.

Cove miyagi oysters – Hutch Bar & Kitchen

Cove miyagi oysters - Hutch Bar & Kitchen
Tomales Bay. With chili cider mignonette and cocktail sauce. $14
Hutch Bar & Kitchen, Oakland CA

I’m definitely becoming a big oyster fan (of the smaller varieties anyway). These miyagi’s were delicious especially with the mignonette, but they could have been shucked a little bit cleaner though.

Chardonnay and cabernet wines - Hutch Bar & Kitchen
House chardonnay and cabernet.

Seared mozzarella – Cozina

Seared mozzarella - Cozina
With organic tomato carpaccio, topped with grilled shiitake with dressed in light truffle oil vinaigrette. 480 PHP
Cozina, Boracay PHILIPPINES

This was pretty tasty and I loved the shiitake mushrooms on top. My only critique would be that they should have served this with some delicious, crusty bread to spread the mozzarella on and to mop up the yummy vinaigrette.

Roasted beet and tangerine salad – Radio Africa & Kitchen

Roasted beet and tangerine salad - Radio Africa & Kitchen
With arugula and spiced red walnuts. Mushroom wot with mustard greens and smoked cheese. Pre fixe menu
Radio Africa & Kitchen, San Francisco CA

I love roasted beets and this salad had a awesome combination of flavors and textures. It was super refreshing and delicious. I’ve never had Ethiopian wot before, but this mushroom wot reminded me of an Italian crostini. It tasted great!

Sisig rice – Mesa

Sisig rice - Mesa
Stir fried rice tossed with pork sisig and topped with fried egg. 130 PHP
Mesa, Boracay PHILIPPINES

This was good, but I wish that there was more pork sisig tossed in. It really just tasted like regular fried rice and I missed a lot of the sisig flavor. I do love a runny egg on anything though!

My Fish Spa
People getting the dead skin on their feet eaten by fish in the tank at My Fish Spa. Don’t know if I’d like this. 🙂

Cheeseburger deluxe value meal – McDonald’s

Cheeseburger deluxe - McDonald's
Beef patty, cheese, lettuce, tomato, special mayo. Served with French fries and a drink. 149 PHP
McDonald’s, Boracay PHILIPPINES

OK, this is the last McDonald’s pic for a while, lol! Promise. This cheeseburger was pretty standard and very similar to those in the US. It did it’s job and kept us going between “real” meals. 🙂
