Garlic and butter prawns – Plato D’Boracay Resto

Garlic and butter prawns - Plato D'Boracay Resto
Prawns 700 PHP, Cooking service 250 PHP
Plato D’Boracay Resto, Boracay PHILIPPINES

This was a new, amazing experience for me! So there’s a great fish market a few blocks from the Boracay Regency called d*talipapa. You’re supposed to go purchase whatever you want to eat, then bring your fresh seafood to the cooking service restaurants in the market to cook it up for you! Awesome, right? Thank goodness my friend Robert is fluent in Tagalog because I don’t think I could have haggled with the fish mongers and then communicated with the cooks to let them know how we wanted the food the be prepared.

These prawns were SO good! They were super fresh and had so much flavor. I guess when you have that much butter and garlic, everything is better. 🙂

Shrimp tostas – Cozina

Shrimp tostas - Cozina
On house baked ciabatta, served with shoe string French fries. 650 PHP
Cozina, Boracay PHILIPPINES

We actually weren’t very full towards the end of our dinner since the portions were really small for most items, so we ordered this final item. It tasted pretty good, but the ciabatta bread was a little chewy perhaps undercooked? I don’t think I’d go back to this place.

Honey poached pears – Radio Africa & Kitchen

Honey poached pears - Radio Africa & Kitchen
Chocolate, citron cream and berries. Pre fixe menu
Radio Africa & Kitchen, San Francisco CA

This was a delicious, simple dessert! I loved the flavors of this dish and the fact that it wasn’t too sweet. The rich, dense chocolate torte was sliced thinly enough so that it didn’t weigh down the other components. Noms!

Crispy duck – Mesa

Crispy duck - Mesa
1/4 duck deep fried and served with sweet chili sauce. 390 PHP
Mesa, Boracay PHILIPPINES

This duck was ok. I think it was over-fried in my opinion, but I found that this is how many of the fried proteins come out. They tend to be too dry and tough for my liking. I guess that’s why they always come with some kind of dipping sauce.

Chili prawns – Paraiso Grill

Chili prawns - Paraiso Grill
Prawns sautéed in a sweet chili sauce, garnished with green onion.
Paraiso Grill, Boracay PHILIPPINES

These prawns were really tasty, but someone at our table requested that they be peeled before cooking. NO!!! There’s SO much more flavor when they’re cooked whole, and I love sucking on the heads. That’s where all the goodness is located.

Paseo, Seattle WA

Omg, this sandwich was AMAZING! It had everything that I love, and it was overflowing with flavor. I could eat this every day. I’d probably die of a heart attack, but at least I’d die happy. Hehe. 🙂

Crab ‘n corn soup – Paraiso Grill

Crab 'n corn soup - Paraiso Grill
Creamy soup with crab, corn and egg. 200 PHP
Paraiso Grill, Boracay PHILIPPINES

Meh, this soup was neither particularly good nor bad. It tasted fine, but it was definitely forgettable. I guess it was something to eat while we waited for everything else.

Now this is what I call a sandwich! This place is amazing and the sandwiches are killer! The pork is SO tender and flavorful. It’s a messy endeavor to eat this monster, but it’s completely worth it. NOMS!

Mimi’s fried chicken dinner – Hutch Bar & Kitchen

Mimi's fried chicken dinner - Hutch Bar & Kitchen
Steamed rice, sherry herb gravy, buttermilk biscuits, squash casserole. Per person $20
Hutch Bar & Kitchen, Oakland CA

Omg, talk about value – there was so much food on this plate for 2 people! We definitely took a lot of this home. The chicken was really good, and I was really happy about the steamed rice. It had a soft consistency almost liked mashed potatoes and tasted great with the sherry herb gravy. The squash casserole was really salty so it wasn’t my favorite. The biscuit tasted good, but were on the hard, dense side.

The Boulevardier cocktail - Hutch Bar & Kitchen
The Boulevardier: Bulleit bourbon, gran classic, aperol, orange twist. $11

Chicken and chorizo paella – Cozina

Chicken and chorizo paella - Cozina
Half order 600 PHP
Cozina, Boracay PHILIPPINES

I wasn’t too impressed with this paella. I think they precook it and then reheat ordered portions in the paella pan because there wasn’t a delicious, crusty layer of rice on the bottom that you get from cooking the paella in the pan the entire time. The flavors were ok, but I thought the quality was mediocre.

Lentils, lamb and barramundi – Radio Africa & Kitchen

French green lentils - Radio Africa & Kitchen
French green lentils with spinach and goat cheese. Pre fixe menu
Radio Africa & Kitchen, San Francisco CA

After we saw this plated trio, we knew we were gonna be full! The items were all really different and very tasty. I thought that the column of French green lentils was creative and beautifully presented. The lamb prepared two ways was good, and the barramundi had a nice flavor. Everything was pretty heavy though so we had to pace ourselves. 🙂
