Foie gras profiteroles – Le Pigeon

Foie gras profiteroles - Le Pigeon
Caramel sauce, sea salt. 5 course tasting menu $85
Le Pigeon, Portland OR

This was the second time I’ve had this dessert, and it was just as good as I remember! This is definitely rich and decadent, but the texture and temperature of the foie gras ice cream surprisingly makes it feel on the light side. This dessert is SO good!

Warm peach sticky bun – Town Hall

Warm peach sticky bun - Town Hall
Bourbon caramel sauce, vanilla ice cream, candied pecans. $9
Town Hall, San Francisco CA

Mmm, this dessert was very tasty and the peaches were great. The sticky bun was a bit too caramelized on the bottom and hard to cut through, but all the flavors were there and the vanilla ice cream helped to soften up everything.

Floating island – Alamo Square Seafood Grill

Floating island - Alamo Square Seafood Grill
Meringue, creme anglaise (vanilla custard), toasted almonds, caramel sauce, strawberry and mint garnish. Daily 3-course prix fixe $14.50
Alamo Square Seafood Grill, San Francisco CA

This was a very simple, light and elegant dish and it tasted really good! I don’t think I’ve ever had this before but I can see that it’s a great cost effective way to put out a delicious dessert. You really need the toasted almonds and caramel sauce to elevate it though. Noms!

Crispy apple turnovers – L’Epigramme

Crispy apple turnovers - L'Epigramme
Croustillant de pomme au caramel. Feuille de brick, apples, caramel sauce, toasted almonds, powdered sugar. Entree/Plat/Dessert option 28€
L’Epigramme, Paris FR

This was a perfect ending to a perfect meal! It was quite large so I’m glad we only had this one dessert and could share. I enjoyed that the pastry wasn’t overly sweet and that you could wipe up the rich, dark caramel sauce to your liking. The puff pastry was wonderfully thin and crispy and the apple filling was warm and delicious. Thank you L’Epigramme!

Assorted macarons – Paul

Assorted macarons - Paul
Chocolate, coconut, raspberry, citron, caramel, pistachio. 8,70€

Assorted macarons - Paul
I grabbed these macarons at Gare du Nord. I had bought some fancier ones from Pierre Herme as gifts. I later found that the Pierre Herme macarons didn’t survive the hot weather though, aww. 😦 The Paul macarons did survive. I ate some on the train leaving Paris and they were pretty good. They definitely weren’t as soft and delicate as the ones from Pierre Herme. Those were super fancy and expensive.

Gare du Nord
Gare du Nord train station. I love the public transportation in Paris, it’s SO much more extensive and efficient than what we have in San Francisco (Muni and Bart both suck!).

Variegato amarena and Caramello al sale – D’Ambrosio Gelato

Variegato amarena and Caramello al sale - D'Ambrosio Gelato
Kirsch cherry and salted caramel gelato. Small $3.95
D’Ambrosio Gelato, Seattle WA

This gelato had a very creamy texture. I liked the cherry flavor more than the salted caramel which is surprising. I think the salted caramel had an odd waxy texture that I didn’t like.

Chocolate chili terrine – Staple & Fancy

Chocolate chili terrine - Staple & Fancy
Caramel ice cream, caramel sauce and brittle. Family style supper $46 per person
Staple and Fancy, Seattle WA

Of the two desserts we received, I preferred this one. The brittle was really good, and the caramel ice cream helped to balance out the rich, dense cake.
