This was NOT the best weekend for me. I drank and ate WAY too much, lol! Sunday morning, I was still feeling the effects of the previous night’s merriment. We went to brunch at Ironside for MB2’s extended 40th birthday celebration. They have an all you can eat brunch buffet and bottomless mimosas. Need I say more? It was great to celebrate with MB2 and some of his friends – they were all really great guys. So we pretty much close the place down and drink way too many mimosas, and decide that we should continue drinking in the Castro. Smart, right? LOL! We have a great time, and Silverfox and I are smart enough to cut out early before things get too messy. We grab a small bite at Cafe Flore then head home to turn in early. I was exhausted, fell asleep and totally missed The Emmy Awards broadcast. Oh well.

It’s Friday, Friday! Walked to Bart from Silverfox’s this morning. I like that walk. It takes about 30 minutes to complete but it’s a nice way to wake up and get the blood flowing in the morning. The only bad thing is that 16th Street in the Mission can smelled awfully funky in the morning, lol! It’s gonna be a good day today, I can feel it. It’s sunny and will get moderately warm, it’s Friday, and I’m feeling good. I just hope the work day doesn’t kill my positive mood.

This was pretty good and large, but I think that it’s priced too high. I don’t think anyone else charges almost $5 for a bagel sandwich. I always think that the microwaved eggs have a weird texture, but I kinda like it.

I wasn’t a huge fan of this pizza. I enjoyed the flavors but the whole thing was heavy and clunky. The crust had an odd, dense texture which was surprising since it was thin. It’s all about the crust, right?! The pizza was also on the small side. Don’t think I’ll be ordering pizzas from Uva Enoteca again.

They have a nice selection! These are sold by 2oz or 8oz. I like that the 8oz is served in a small, cute carafe.

I’m gonna come and out say it – Firewood isn’t fine dining (I mean, you have to order at a register and take a number) but I REALLY like their pizzas! It’s nice to have a more casual option that’s fast and consistent and has pretty decent food that’s familiar and crave-able.

Drove down to San Jose today to have brunch with a couple of Silverfox’s friends. I was super excited to go since I never go there and I’d get to try new restaurants, but the place we went to totally bombed. The service was horrific (SO slow) and the food was mediocre. We shopped around Santana Row and Westfield Mall afterward and I was able to buy a few t-shirts so the trip wasn’t a complete bust!

Omg, can’t wait for the Grammy’s tonight! Actually I have to head into work but I’m recording it on DVR. I still am a little in shock that Whitney Houston died yesterday! I know she was a complete mess at the end, but she was SO beautiful and SO talented. What happened to her was an utter tragedy. We watched her sing the national anthem on Youtube a couple times this morning and she was spectacular. She hit every perfect note SO effortlessly and she looked fresh and full of life. I’m saddened by her loss. I told Silverfox that this hits me more than the loss of Michael Jackson (or Heath Ledger actually). I grew up with her songs and enjoyed listening to her amazing voice. She was a bright light in the lives of so many people and she will be missed.

The catfish fillet was really large, but it wasn’t all that good. The crust was a little greasy and it didn’t have a lot of flavor. I had to drown in it Crystal’s hot sauce! The biscuit was also dense and lackluster. It was a disappointment after the cornbread. I liked the macaroni and cheese but it was also very greasy. I know that mac ‘n cheese can sometimes be greasy, but this was out of control. You could see the bread crumb topping just dripping with it, gross!

Now this was good! I loved the enchilada sauce. It was dark and rich and very mole tasting. The refried beans were also delicious as was the rice. I only order the single enchilada and I’m glad I did because you get a lot of food. It also came with a side salad and a corn tortilla. Add all you can eat chips and salsa and you’ve got a filling meal! Noms!

I’ve never had the Maui Zaui, but omg, it was darn good! I don’t usually order pizza from chain restaurants unless I’m super starving and feeling really poor (hehe). There are just so many great pizza places in San Francisco – think Delfina Pizzeria, Little Star, Patxi’s, Ragazza, etc. I feel a little guilty that I enjoyed this pizza so much. The crust was on the thinner side and it was jam packed with all my favorite toppings! Noms!

This was the best focaccia I’ve EVER tasted, no joke! It has an amazing texture and it’s SO amazingly buttery. Even though this was my second choice, I’m glad that I ordered the jalapeno cheese flavor. It had a great flavor and had a little bit of heat which I wasn’t expecting from a focaccia!

I’ll still sing the praises of this bread even though my store experience wasn’t all that great. I arrived around 1:15pm on a random Thursday. The old lady at the counter must have been cranky because it was nearing the end of her shift. I patiently wait for her to finish with the customer in front of me, then she glares at me and asks “What do you want!?” I ask for some of the black olive focaccia. She responds, “We’re out” and continues staring at me. I was a bit taken aback, but decide to forge on. I’ve decided that she’s not going to give me any more information so I ask, “Well what do you have left?” She grudgingly tells me and I decide on the jalapeno cheese. Omg, how ruuuuuude! How about some customer service here? I was waiting for her to completely roll her eyes at me as it could’ve happened easily.

Anyway, I get home with the focaccia and I’m blown away! The piece was big enough to into six pieces which I continue to hoard for the next few days. It even tasted great when reheated in the oven! I’ll definitely go back (but when I’m up for that lady’s look of death)!

Omg! It was SO hard waking up this morning. We were on the road by 4:50 AM and I drove the entire way. It took almost 7 hours! Silverfox was feeling sick so I took on the driving duties. He deserved to sleep during the car ride. The toughest part of the drive was the 210. It was so dark and foggy. It took a lot of concentration not to fall asleep behind the wheel. Once we passed Santa Clarita, it got brighter so it was a breeze from there on. We made one stop at Kettleman City for gas and a Starbucks run. I also grabbed this burrito bowl at Chipotle in Millbrae before Silverfox dropped me off at work.

It’s a holiday, but the workload seemed normal. I guess we have a lot of work that hasn’t been assigned yet (not gonna name names, argh!) so this coming week is gonna be fun! Not. I am excited to hit the gym tomorrow morning!

Standard Chipotle fare – barbacoa is my favorite here. Didn’t quite hit the spot but the large Diet Coke helped. Oh well, it was quick and on the way to work so I’m not gonna complain.

Omg, SO good! This plate totally hit the spot and it was pretty big! I also loved their refried beans, nice and rich and flavorful. You can definitely taste the fatty goodness in them. I would order this again in a heartbeat!

Sangria. I’ve never had sangria in a paper cup, but the nice girl at the counter told us that you get way more sangria in the paper cups versus their wine glasses and you get charged the same price. Score! And they tasted pretty good, too!

Salumi, cheese and tapenade

Project 365: Day 7

Omg! I am SO tired. I biked almost 15 miles to work this morning even though my legs were still tired from squats a couple days ago. Then Rapunzel, Papa Chang and I took a 30-minute bike ride before lunch. And then I biked to Bart after work and back home from the Bart station near my house. I was so hungry all day because I burned so many calories from biking. Maybe I’m over doing it on the exercise. I keep thinking, “Cruise, cruise, cruise!” I even had a dream about the cruise last night!

I’ve got to say that taking the midday ride was really fun and beautiful! It was nice to get out of the office, get some exercise and enjoy the outdoors. I love being outside and I’m glad that some of my coworkers do too!

After I had an early dinner, I was still super hungry so I made myself a nice snack plate to munch on while catching up on DVR. I love truffle flavored salami – I bought these from Whole Foods. Actually, everything on this plate is from Whole Foods, lol!
