Popover - Wayfare Tavern
(From original post) Wow, these babies did not disappoint! They were frickin’ delicious! I loved their soft, eggy texture and luscious flavor. The exterior was beautifully flaky while the interior was warm and comforting. I’m not a big Tyler Florence fan, but these things rocked!

Cocktails – AQ Restaurant

Bison Rose cocktail - AQ Restaurant

Bison Rose: Zubrowka bison grass vodka, cocchi americano, meyer lemon rosemary shrub. $13
AQ Restaurant, San Francisco CA

Ugh! We were SO excited to go to this restaurant and it was a major FAIL! The service was cold and robotic. The only person who asked us about our dinner was the busser when he cleared our entree plates. There was absolutely no joy in this restaurant. These cocktail were ok, but each a little off. I enjoyed the glassware and the stirrer/straw for the bison rose cocktail , but the flavor tasted somehow dull despite the promising ingredients. The old fashioned was the complete opposite where they probably swabbed the entire glass with citrus and pummeled the lemon twist against the sides to produced the overpowering citrus odor emanating from the this cocktail. It made me nauseous. That’s the first time I’ve ever reacted like that to an old fashioned – gross!

Old Fashioned cocktail - AQ Restaurant
Old Fashioned: Eagle rare bourbon, winter bitter, sugar, twist of lemon. $12

Super spicy tuna roll – Sushi Delight

Super spicy tuna roll - Sushi Delight
Spicy tuna, jalapenos and cucumber topped with spicy tuna and tobiko. $11
Sushi Delight, San Francisco CA

I get the feeling that people generally discount Sushi Delight as a legitimate sushi restaurant because it’s attached to The Mint, but I like the place. They serve great tasting sushi at great prices. Yes, their rolls aren’t the most authentic but they’re not purporting to be. Despite what others think of this place, I’m a fan!

Cocktails – Wayfare Tavern

Briar Patch cocktail - Wayfare Tavern

Briar Patch: rye, rhubarb, lime orange bitters. $11
Wayfare Tavern, San Francisco CA

Noms! We went to Wayfare Tavern with my roomies and had a fabulous time. The service was amazing and I loved the drinks. Dare I say, I loved them more than the food? It’s true. The drinks are expertly made. Although, you really can’t beat their popovers (more to come about that).

Pomegranate Fizz cocktail - Wayfare Tavern

Pomegranate Fizz: vodka, pomegranate, ginger rosemary syrup. $11

Sazerac cocktail - Wayfare Tavern

Sazerac: rye, herbsaint, peychauds, sugar. $11

Tutto mare – Boulevard Cafe

Tutto mare - Boulevard Cafe
Spaghetti, prawns, clams, mussels, fish, garlic, basil, white wine, red sauce. $15.95
Boulevard Cafe, Daly City CA

This restaurant is one of those places where the menu is gigantic and appears to contain food from all cuisines. Usually the food at these places are sorely lacking, but the things I ordered were actually pretty good. The tutto mare had plenty of seafood which I was surprised about since most places will skimp of the more expensive proteins. It had bold flavors and the pasta was perfectly al dente.

Avgolemono soup - Boulevard Cafe
Avgolemono soup. Traditional Greek soup with chicken, rice, lemon and egg. $2.95
This was OK. It was mostly broth.

Chicken parmigiana – Firewood Cafe

Chicken parmigiana - Firewood Cafe
Served with a side of capellini pasta, oven roasted seasonal vegetables and bread. $15.50
Firewood Cafe, San Francisco CA

Chicken parmigiana - Firewood Cafe
Mmm, I love chicken parmigiana. This was huge and very good! The chicken was generously smothered in marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese which was amazing! I know that Firewood is the best restaurant in the world, but it definitely holds a place in my heart for quick quality Italian food.

Marinated olives - Firewood Cafe
Marinated olives. Complimentary

Fried chicken sandwich – Hi Tops

Fried chicken sandwich - Hi Tops

Spicy rooster slaw, pickles, served with fries. $12
Hi Tops, San Francisco CA

I love the sandwiches at Hi Tops. They’re big and messy and packed with flavor. This fried chicken sandwich was delicious, but the chicken was a little on the greasy side. The rooster slaw was amazing though. The fries were tasty but most of them were kinda short and annoying to eat.

Steak and prawns – Zapata Mexican Grill

Steak and prawns - Zapata Mexican Grill
Grilled steak, prawns, rice, black beans, guacamole, salad, salsa and 4 corn tortillas. $13.50
Zapata Mexican Grill, San Francisco CA

I was pleasantly surprised by this plate – I thought it was going ot suck! The prawns were acutally really good though. They were large, juicy and tender. The grilled steak could have been more tender and less salty, but it still tasted great with everything else. And of course, they make sure to pack the plate! 🙂

Corned beef hash – It’s Tops Coffee Shop

Corned beef hash - It's Tops Coffee Shop
Two eggs over medium served with home fried potatoes, and wheat toast. $10.49
It’s Tops Coffee Shop, San Francisco CA

I can’t really ever complain about corned beef hash! Especially when the corned beef looks like it’s from a can – noms, lol! This was salty, fattening and utterly delicious!
