Chicken mole enchiladas – Zapata Mexican Grill

Chicken mole enchiladas - Zapata Mexican Grill
Two enchiladas, guacamole, green salad and salsa. $9.40
Zapata Mexican Grill, San Francisco CA

I’m so sad that Zapata is closing down, or maybe it already has (I haven’t been back in a while). I always thought this place was a bit better than La Tortilla around the corner. 😦

Chicken mole super nachos – Zapata Mexican Grill

Chicken mole super nachos - Zapata Mexican Grill
Chicken mole, refried beans, cheese, guacamole, sour cream and salsa. $10.95
Zapata Mexican Grill, San Francisco CA

I’m a bit weird in that I like my nachos super saucy so that’s why I often choose the simmering meats for my nachos. Chicken mole is always a good bet because its so flavorful and the mole is great at softening the tortilla chips.

Steak and prawns – Zapata Mexican Grill

Steak and prawns - Zapata Mexican Grill
Grilled steak, prawns, rice, black beans, guacamole, salad, salsa and 4 corn tortillas. $13.50
Zapata Mexican Grill, San Francisco CA

I was pleasantly surprised by this plate – I thought it was going ot suck! The prawns were acutally really good though. They were large, juicy and tender. The grilled steak could have been more tender and less salty, but it still tasted great with everything else. And of course, they make sure to pack the plate! 🙂

Zapata Mexican Grill, San Francisco

Wow, there was A LOT of food on that plate! The proteins were definitely on the salty side, but still flavorful. The fish was a bit overcooked, but the prawns were perfect.

Los numeros #1 Zapata Mexican Grill

I don’t remember where the flauta went – I probably devoured it before remembering to take the pic, hehe. You can see that this plate is packed with food. That’s probably why I stumble over to this place after a night with friends, lol! I always seem to order enchiladas at Mexican restaurants, but I think I was super hungry so I got this combination. You can’t go wrong with adding a deep fried chile relleno and a flauta and everything smothered in cheese.
