Frisco benedict – Kitchen Story

Frisco benedict - Kitchen Story
Chicken mango sausage, avocado, cherry pepper, meyer lemon hollandaise served on levain toast with rainbow potatoes and fruit. $13
Kitchen Story, San Francisco CA

Omg, Kitchen Story has redeemed itself with brunch! My experience here this time around was night and day (literally) compared to the time I had dinner here. The food was really good and the service rocked! A friend and I sat at the counter and we were never made to feel like we needed to leave even after were had finished all our food. I felt kind of bad because there were so many people waiting to get seated, but the servers just kept refilling our bottomless mimosa and we kept drinking them, lol. Thank you Kitchen Story for proving me wrong!

Hand picked dungeness crab salad – Contigo

Hand picked dungeness crab salad - Contigo
With chicories, winter citrus, avocado and lime vinagreta. $15
Contigo, San Francisco CA

This was such a great salad. It was bright and fresh and the dungeness crab tasted delicious. I also really loved the beautiful, multicolored chicories that they used especially the pink-splotched variety. Noms!

Grand slam of sliders – Escena Lounge & Grill

Grand slam of sliders - Escena Lounge & Grill
Crab cake, old bay tartar sauce. Pulled pork, jack and coke bbq sauce, slaw. Natural beef, cheddar, secret sauce, Achiote chicken, pulled spicy chicken, guacamole. Served with fries and a pickle. $12
Escena Lounge & Grill, Palm Springs CA

Mmm, all these sliders were pretty good but I think the pulled pork was my favorite. I also enjoyed that they tried to differentiate the sliders by having different toppings and sauces.

Trio of pulled pork sliders. $9
Had to order these another day since I liked them so much and they’re a great value.

Street tacos – Escena Lounge & Grill

Popcorn shrimp taco - Escena Lounge & Grill
Popcorn shrimp with cabbage slaw and salsa. $3
Escena Lounge & Grill, Palm Springs CA

These tacos were pretty tasty and at $3 a pop they made the perfect afternoon snack! I know it’s kinda ghetto for me to admit it, but the popcorn shrimp was probably my favorite. I don’t eat a lot of fried seafood so perhaps I just had a craving for it that day, hehe.

Diamond Head nachos – Bongo Johnny’s

Diamond Head nachos - Bongo Johnny's
Chicken, refried beans, pepper jack/cheddar shred and scallions on tri-colored tortilla chips with pico de gallo, sour cream and guacamole. $9.95
Bongo Johnny’s, Palm Springs CA

This was a huge plate of nachos, but they weren’t anything special. I guess the multi-colored chips were supposed to elevate it but that didn’t really happen. It was pretty standard nachos, and dare I say a little on the bland side.

Carne asada – El Mirasol Cocina Mexicana

Carne asada - El Mirasol Cocina Mexicana
Mexican style, thin cut beef steak seasoned, broiled and served with guacamole, refried beans and rice. $14.95
El Mirasol Cocina Mexicana, Palm Springs CA

Mmm, this was SO good! The beef was nice and tender and had great flavor. They advertise the cut was “thin”, but they’re actually pretty substantial. Yes please!

Guacamole chilango – Chilango

Guacamole chilango - Chilango
Avocado with lime, onion, cilantro, and serrano chile. Small $6
Chilango, San Francisco CA

Mmm, I love guacamole! I hated it as a kid because its appearance grossed me out, but now I can’t get enough of it. Is it also weird that I prefer the tortilla strips over the triangles! Hehe.

The Mission scramble – Crepevine

The Mission scramble - Crepevine
Chicken chorizo, eggs, scallions, peppers and jack cheese on a bed of black bean chili topped with salsa fresca, avocado and sour cream. Served with house potatoes and whole wheat toast. $9.95
Crepevine, San Francisco CA

This definitely filled me up. The scramble actually comes as a breakfast burrito, but I requested it not wrapped in a flour tortilla. I don’t need the extra carbs, hehe!

California crepe – Crepevine

California crepe - Crepevine
Savory crepe with avocado, bell peppers, tomatoes, sauteed onions and cheddar topped with salsa fresca and sour cream and spicy chipotle on the side. Served with house potatoes and mixed greens with vinaigrette. $9.50
Crepevine, San Francisco CA

To me, these crepe places tend to be cookie-cutter and predictable which is both a good and bad thing. You always know what to expect, but nothing is ever new and interesting. That’s why quality is the deciding factor when comparing these establishment. Crepevine is pretty good. The food is yummy and the ingredients are of nice quality.
