Brownie a la mode – Mozzeria

Brownie a la mode - Mozzeria
Banana, walnut, vanilla ice cream. Pre fixe menu
Mozzeria, San Francisco CA

Mmm, this was pretty good and I’m not even into really sweet desserts. The brownie was moist and not super sweet as brownies go, thank goodness. I also liked that they bruleed the bananas individually. A great way to finish off a less than stellar meal. 🙂

Beef shawarma – Leylam Shawarma

Beef shawarma - Leylam Shawarma
With cabbage, cucumber, hummus and tahini sauce wrapped in lavash bread. 59 PHP
Leylam Shawarma, Boracay PHILIPPINES

I don’t remember too much about this shawarma – just that I was starving after our first night out in Boracay, lol! It was cheap, quick, and on the way back to the hotel. Looking back at the pic, I guess it wasn’t very big. Maybe that’s why I had a hangover in the morning. 😉

Sesame crusted tuna – Epic

Sesame crusted tuna - Epic
Served with a salad of greens, carrots, radish, and wasabi dressing. 480 PHP
Epic, Boracay PHILIPPINES

This tuna salad was really good! The tuna was fresh tasting and seared perfectly on the outside while the center was still pink and tender. I also liked the presentation with the height of the salad.

Weng-weng cocktail - Epic
Weng-weng cocktail. Pitcher 580 PHP
This cocktail was surprisingly delicious and strong! We asked if they could make it less sweet than normal, and they did a great job.

Granola and yoghurt – Cassava

Granola and yoghurt - Cassava
House made steel cut oats granola, house made yoghurt, summer fruits. $7
Cassava, San Francisco CA

This was pretty tasty, but honestly, there wasn’t enough food! We were SO hungry after having our tiny brunch here that we had to go to get dumplings down the street! I’m not a huge eater, so that says a lot about how small the portions are here. I can definitely eat, but I eat in small portions. Cassava’s portion were even too small for me!

Three-dal wave – Wave Bar & Lounge

Three-dal wave - Wave Bar & Lounge
Loaded potato skins, fried mozzarella, and tangy buffalo wings, served with sour cream, chives and marinara sauce. 420 PHP
Wave Bar & Lounge, Boracay PHILIPPINES

This was pretty good for a fried appetizer plate. The loaded potato skins ended up being bbq potato chips though. Ugh, whatever. Everything tasted great, but the chips were a bit soggy. The service was really friendly and they bring the food out to you on the beach. Lovely!

It took me a while to figure out what “three-dal wave” was referring to. I wasn’t sure if it was a tagalog thing at first, but then realized it was a play on “tidal wave”. Ugh, doesn’t sound very similar, lol!

Bucatini with meatballs – Mozzeria

Bucatini with meatballs - Mozzeria
Veal-pork meatball, pomodoro, grana padano. Pre fixe menu
Mozzeria, San Francisco CA

Finally, something that was delicious at Mozzeria! I loved the texture of the pasta. It had a nice bite and was beautifully made. The meatballs were nice and big, and super juicy and flavorful. Unlike the other things I’ve posted from here, I’d eat this again.

Travel + Leisure includes Vittle Monster margarita!

This month, Travel + Leisure has published a wonderful slideshow of “America’s Best Margaritas” on their website. Tommy’s Mexican Restaurant represents for San Francisco on the list, and my pic of their margarita has been included! Tommy’s is kind of famous for their margaritas so I’m honored that they used my pic (even though it’s kinda dark, hehe). 🙂

Gambas – Epic

Gambas - Epic
Tiger prawns cooked in olive oil, garlic, chorizo and white wine. 480 PHP
Epic, Boracay PHILIPPINES

Wow, this was our first meal in Boracay and it was an awesome choice! These gambas were delicious and super tender. I loved the chorizo sauce and dumped most of my garlic rice in there to soak it all up. I also like the flatware and presentation. Welcome to Boracay!

Mini lumpia – White Moon Bar

Mini lumpia - White Moon Bar
Deep fried lumpia with pork filling and served with sweet chili sauce. 280 PHP
White Moon Bar, Manila PHILIPPINES

These were actually labeled “spring rolls” on the menu which is totally weird since we’re in the Philippines! I think everyone knows what lumpia is. Anyway, these were super thin so they didn’t have much filling. It was like eating rolled up, fried lumpia wrappers. Lame. And the sweet chili sauce was straight from the bottle.

Cheeseburger – Sisters Cafe

Cheeseburger - Sisters Cafe
Minced beef burger with shredded cheese, onion, lettuce, and tomato. Served with French fries. 99,000 VND
Sisters Cafe, Ho Chi Minh City VIETNAM

We were very good, and this was the only hamburger we had during our entire Ho Chi Minh trip and we even waited til the final day. Yay! It was decent, but they could’ve melted the cheese a bit. The fries were pretty good though.

Dessert plate – DADS Kamayan Saisaki

Dessert plate - DADS Kamayan Saisaki
Chocolate layer cake with strawberry frosting, lemon cookie, peach crepe with chocolate ice cream and chocolate sauce. Buffet
DADS Kamayan Saisaki, Manila PHILIPPINES

The cake and cookie were throw-away dessert, but the peach crepe was pretty good because they make it to order and it’s got ice cream on top. Ice cream makes any dessert better, duh! 🙂

Spinach pizza – Mozzeria

Spinach pizza - Mozzeria
Almonds and red onions. Pre fixe menu
Mozzeria, San Francisco CA

I’m all for pizzas not having sauce, but this wasn’t very good. It was super dry and sad. The only thing providing any juicy element were the few strands of caramelized red onions because even the spinach had dried out from baking. The dough was also a little too thick to have it without sauce, and the warm toasted almonds dried out your mouth even more. I’d say this pizza was a FAIL.
