Chili calamari – Sky Deck View Bar

Chili calamari - Sky Deck View Bar
Crispy egg battered squid, chili, aioli, lime wedge, cilantro. 310 PHP
Sky Deck View Bar, Manila PHILIPPINES

Mmm, these calamari were done right! They weren’t dry and over-fried and chewy. They were still tender and packed with flavor, a little heat and some sweetness. A nice early evening snack to kick off the night.

Poutine - The Gerald
Hand-cut fries topped with house-made gravy, fresh cheese curds, diced red onion and parsley. Happy hour $4
The Gerald, Seattle WA

Mmm, I love poutine! And The Gerald’s version is pretty darn tasty. The gravy is delicious and the fries are freshly fried, crispy on the outside and hot and fluffy on the inside. The pieces of cheese curds dotting the dish are nice lil’ treats!

Fried potato wedges, truffle oil, crispy bacon bits, egg. 250 PHP
Sky Deck View Bar, Manila PHILIPPINES

We wanted to hit a rooftop bar while in Manila so we found the Sky Deck View Bar located at The Bayleaf Intramuros hotel. The bar is really cute and you get a 360 degree view of the city. We went during happy hour so the drinks were discounted. The snacks were also pretty tasty. These truffle fries were really good and sinful. Hey, I’m still on vacation!

Omg, only eight bucks for this amazing pizza during happy hour?! Count me in!! Honestly, this pizza was frickin’ great. The ingredients were top notch and the crust was heavenly. I think Stoneburner definitely has one of the best happy hours in Ballard!

This bar adjacent to The Walrus and the Carpenter is really cute. There bartenders are laid back and cool, and the drinks are created and tasty. If you’re waiting for a seat next door, definitely duck into this bar and relax.

Meh, this soup was neither particularly good nor bad. It tasted fine, but it was definitely forgettable. I guess it was something to eat while we waited for everything else.

Mimi’s fried chicken dinner – Hutch Bar & Kitchen

Mimi's fried chicken dinner - Hutch Bar & Kitchen
Steamed rice, sherry herb gravy, buttermilk biscuits, squash casserole. Per person $20
Hutch Bar & Kitchen, Oakland CA

Omg, talk about value – there was so much food on this plate for 2 people! We definitely took a lot of this home. The chicken was really good, and I was really happy about the steamed rice. It had a soft consistency almost liked mashed potatoes and tasted great with the sherry herb gravy. The squash casserole was really salty so it wasn’t my favorite. The biscuit tasted good, but were on the hard, dense side.

The Boulevardier cocktail - Hutch Bar & Kitchen
The Boulevardier: Bulleit bourbon, gran classic, aperol, orange twist. $11

After dinner drinks – Pat’s Creek Bar

Margarita - Pat's Creek Bar
Margarita. Happy hour 90 PHP

Happy hours can last for quite a while in Boracay. This one at Pat’s was form 4-8, but it’s often difficult to know whether you’re actually getting a deal since the prices are inflated from the beginning and they always seem to pour weakly during happy hour anyway. When in doubt, just stick with beer. ๐Ÿ™‚

Entertainment at Pat’s Creek Bar. The bands that played at Pat’s were actually really good. I think the musicians on the island just kinda rotate between all the restaurants and bars though.

Patatas bravas – Cozina

Patatas bravas - Cozina
Fried potato cubes with Barcelona’s Best Selling Sauce. 350 PHP
Cozina, Boracay PHILIPPINES

Meh, these patatas bravas weren’t that good. I’ve had better versions at even cheaper restaurants, and there weren’t very many in that little bowl. I’m not sure what they mean by “Barcelona’s Best Selling Sauce”, but I’m sure it’s just a spicy tomato/red pepper sauce and aioli.

Kamakaze cocktail - Cozina
Kamakaze cocktail: vodka, triple sec and house made sour. 180 PHP

Pomelo salad with latik – Mesa

Pomelo salad with latik - Mesa
Fresh pomelo chunks with grated coconut and house dressing. 250 PHP
Mesa, Boracay PHILIPPINES

This was a very different dish for me. I liked the pomelo wedges and the toasted coconut was good, but I’m still on the fence regarding the milky dressing. It didn’t taste bad, but I’m not sure that it added to the flavors of the salad. Latik refers to solid coconut curds, by the way, but I had difficulty differentiating them from the toasted shaved coconut. I did like the presentation in the banana leaf!
