I’m at SFO International Terminal A with Hubbs and waiting to board our Virgin Atlantic flight to LHR. Yippee! The flight is 9+ hours long so I’m gonna have plenty of movie-watching time. I’m SO glad it’s a direct flight. We arrive in London tomorrow morning but have to wait at the airport for our afternoon connection to Dublin on British Midland International. SO excited!

Leave it to a cafe to deliver some of the better food we had in Old San Juan. This panini was delicious. Otherwise, San Juan was a food bust for the most part.

These were SO weird and totally not what we expected. The crab salad had a really weird texture, flavor, and color. And the grilled tomatoes were super cold. I was not a fan. 😦

This dish was beautifully presented and deceivingly large. I think they put the entire baby rooster in there, lol! The dish was delicious but on the mild (plain) side. When surrounded by ginormous burgers and sweet potato fries at the table, this dish appeared too tame and proper. This could have been helped with a little more spice in the curry.

Complimentary bread served with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Omg, this bread was SO good! I don’t know where they get it. It was perfectly crusty on the outside and so soft and airy on the inside. Noms!

American warship anchor
10-ton iron anchor located across the street from St. Bartholomew Anglican Church. The anchor was discovered in 1981 and is thought to have come from an 18th century American warship. It now acts as a prominent sculpture on the southern end of the harbor.

Wow, this was pretty greasy. It was definitely packed with flavor, but the slabs on fatty skin in this stew-like dish gave off way too much fat.

St. John's Church ironwork
Beautiful painted ironwork inside St. John’s Church. This amazing old church is located on the eastern side of the island atop a cliff overlooking the nearby shoreline. Highly recommended to visit.

This wasn’t my favorite. It wasn’t bad tasting, but salted codfish is definitely an acquired taste. I did enjoy the light airy texture of the spread.

Royal Clipper
This was a pretty cool looking 5-masted ship called the Royal Clipper docked at the cruise ship terminal.

The Sizzler – BB’s Crabback

I definitely wanted to try conch during this trip to the Caribbean. I really liked this dish, but I’m not sure that I could really appreciate the conch. The seasonings were tasty, but I couldn’t taste the true conch flavor. Since I’ve never had it and don’t know much about how it’s supposed to be cooked, perhaps conch is one of those proteins that’s best suited for aggressive preparations. If that’s the case, BB’s Crabback certainly succeeded. It was noms, regardless.

This dish is called the BB’s Crabback. The restaurant takes it’s name from this dish, fresh crabmeat baked with exotic herbs, wine and cheese sauce and served in a crab shell with warm bake (roll). Served with a side salad and slices of cucumber, tomato, and citrus. $36 (East Caribbean dollar)

I really like how this was plated considering the super casual feel of this restaurant. And of course, we wouldn’t be in the Spice Islands without a garnish of ground spices. The crabback was very rich, but very flavorful and the side salad and sliced vegetables helped to cut the richness. Although the portion wasn’t overly large, it was definitely filling.

Sendall Tunnel
Sendall Tunnel. After eating at the restaurant, we had to walk through this tunnel to get back to the cruise ship terminal. As you can see, it’s a tight fit. The locals seem to have no fear walking through, but I definitely clung to the walls. Lol!

This was a very nice salad. The ingredients tasted great together, and you can never go wrong with crescenza cheese. The persimmon added a delicious flavor and the pistachio added crunch. Simple and delicious!

Omg, this bread was SO frickin’ buttery and delicious! Even though it was also very salty, I still say “Yes, please!”

Yum, I love Saigon Sandwich for their absolutely delicious and CHEAP sandwiches! These sandwiches are quite large for only costing $3.50. The chicken was very flavorful and the pickled veggies were perfect. Mmm, if I lived closer to this place I would hit it up several times a week!

This is a simple, but delicious, breakfast dish! This version, however, was a little dry. The bread was dry and crispy and the thin slice of ham with cheese was placed under the broiler for way too long. Or perhaps it had a long stay under the heat lamp during the busy brunch rush. Either way, I didn’t enjoy the result.

Not much to share today. I’m SO bored with this work trip and I really wish I could fly home tomorrow, but I have to wait until Thursday. Gonna stay in my hotel room tonight and have leftovers. I’m really unmotivated to do anything right now. Omg, I forgot to mention that we had a fire alarm at 2 am the other night. That was the worst! I contemplated staying in bed and trying to ignore the alarm, but it was TOO loud. We waited outside for a good 15-20 minutes before we could re-enter the hotel. Then I could NOT fall back asleep for the life of me. That was SO lame!

Yay, I’m SO glad it’s Friday! Now I get to take a break from work and relax a little bit, maybe see some of downtown Charleston this weekend. I’m feeling kind of restless so I’ll probably check out the downtown nightlife this evening. Can’t get crazy with the alcohol though since I’ll be driving.
