Afternoon wines – Devon On The Wharf

Afternoon wines - Devon On The Wharf
Clos Marguerite Rose ($11.50 NZD) and Passage Rock Chardonnay ($13 NZD).
Devon On The Wharf, Devonport NZ

I loved the location of this restaurant with the amazing view of downtown Auckland. I just wish their bar program would have been smarter than using tinted glasses to serve wine. This made our wine look disgusting and kept throwing me off every time I wanted to take a sip. Our wine looked liked an appletini and Kool-Aid for god’s sake!

Italian meatball soup – American Airlines Admirals Club

Italian meatball soup - American Airlines Admirals Club
Meatballs in chicken broth, pepe pasta, spinach, onions, carrot. Glass of red wine. Complimentary
American Airlines Admirals Club, San Francisco International Airport (SFO)

This soup was ok. It was pretty much standard airline lounge fare so the bar isn’t set very high. It’s definitely better with a glass of wine. 🙂

Hummus trio – SF Uncork’d

Hummus trio - SF Uncork'd
Artichoke, red pepper sundried tomato, and pesto hummus served with pita bread. $9
SF Uncork’d, San Francisco International Airport (SFO)

I liked the hummus on the ends, but the artichoke hummus had an odd flavor and texture. It was pretty gross. They also don’t give you enough pita to be able to eat all the hummus and they charge you $1 for extra slices – lame. The wine was decent though.

Rivet Reds flight - SF Uncork'd
Rivet Reds flight: Paul Dolan pinot noir, Qupe syrah, Rock Wall zinfandel. $10

Duck wings “a l’orange” – RN74

Duck wings a l'orange - RN74
Florida orange gastrique. $18
RN74, San Francisco

I don’t know what all the fuss is about these duck wings. I didn’t like them at all. They were hard, tough, overcooked and really difficult to chew through. The orange gastrique was also too bitter and didn’t do much to any need moisture to these dry wings. Lame.

Maison L'Oree Bourgogne Pinot Noir - RN74
Pinot Noir, Maison L’Oree Bourgogne V.V. 2012.

Artisan cheese plate & Country pate ‘bourguignon’ – DB Brasserie

Artisan cheese plate & County pate bourguignon - DB Brasserie
Selection of 3 cheese, quince preserves, nuts, cranberry bread. Happy hour $9
Pork pate, pickled vegetables, grain mustard, country bread. Happy hour $9
DB Brasserie, Las Vegas NV

This place has a great happy hour! I love their food selection and everything is very tasty. The service is also friendly and accommodating. These boards were great and the portions were perfect. Call me crazy, but I hate it when they give you a gigantic pieces of cheese to over-feed you. I would rather get less cheese and not have to waste any. Anyway, both the cheeses and pate were delicious.

JL Colombo rose - DB Brasserie
JL Colombo rose, Cape Bleue, Mediteranee. Happy hour $5
