David makes a pan-fried pork chop dinner!

Aw, I love it when David cooks dinner! I try and offer to do the dishes, but he’s such a putzer that he ends up doing them before I can get the chance. Hehe! This meal was lovely and a nice change of pace from eating out. As much as I love dining at restaurants, it’s the home cooked meals that I remember the most!

Assorted marinated olives. He knows that I love olives so he was sweet enough to purchase some to snack on.

Spicy bbq pork bowl – Sorabol

Spicy bbq pork bowl - Sorabol
Thinly sliced pork (dwegi gui) smothered in spicy chili pepper paste. Served with steamed rice, chap chae (Korean style glass noodles) and vegetables. $6.95
Sorabol, San Bruno CA

This probably wasn’t the best thing to eat after getting a teeth cleaning at the dentist, but I was starving and craving this yummy pork. Sorabol definitely isn’t authentic Korean by any means, but it somehow hits the spot nonetheless.

Thrice cooked bacon – Mission Chinese Food

Glutinous rice cakes, bitter melon, tofu skin, scallion, onion, black bean, chili oil. $11
Mission Chinese Food, San Francisco

Thrice cooked bacon - Mission Chinese Food
I really enjoy the flavor of this, but I will say that the rice cakes can end up with a slimy texture. The tofu skins are a great addition for texture and flavor as are the bitter melons. Noms!

Turkey kebabs & chicken tikka masala thali plate – Kasa Indian Eatery

Turkey kebabs & chicken tikka masala thali plate - Kasa Indian Eatery
Char-grilled, minced naturally-raised turkey with garlic, herbs and spices. Char-grilled and marinated naturally-raised chicken in a spicy, creamy tomato sauce. A homestyle Indian platter with one or two of the dishes listed below, roti (handmade bread), slow-simmered daal (lentils), rice, veggie salad, chutneys and raita (yogurt). $10.95
Kasa Indian Eatery, San Francisco CA

This was the first time I tried the turkey kebabs. They were pretty good with a nice flavor. I generally like my Indian food saucy, especially on a thali plate so of course I’m partially to their chicken tikka masala!

Mmm, I love the thali plate at Kasa! You get so much delicious food for a great price. Everything has a lot of flavor and the spicy great sauce is amazing.

Big Brother is watching you artwork, Market Street. I like that they decorated the construction pathway along this section. I don’t think Hollywood Billiards has ever been open since I’ve lived in this city.

Ca kho to – Ben Tre

Ca kho to - Ben Tre
Catfish clay pot simmered in traditional homestyle sauce and garlic, spinkled with black pepper, served with a bowl of steamed jasmine rice. $11.25
Ben Tre Vietnamese Homestyle Cuisine, South San Francisco CA

This was one of the saddest clay pots I’ve had in a while! The three pieces of fish were SUPER small and most of the liquid in the sauce had been cooked down too much making it SUPER salty, yuck! I expected more substance from this dish. Don’t think I’ll be ordering this again!

Los numeros #3 – Zapata Mexican Grill

Los numeros #3 - Zapata Mexican Grill
Carne asada (grilled skirt steak), grilled fish and prawns with rice, black beans, salad, guacamole and sour cream. $12.75
Zapata Mexican Grill, San Francisco

Wow, there was A LOT of food on that plate! The proteins were definitely on the salty side, but still flavorful. The fish was a bit overcooked, but the prawns were perfect.

Chips and salsa - Zapata Mexican Grill
Chips and salsa. Complimentary.

2 item combo – Fung Lum Express

2 item combo - Fung Lum Express
With sweet and sour spare ribs, orange chicken, and vegetable fried rice.
Fung Lum Express, San Francisco (SFO)

The Chinese food here is sad and pathetic. If you want your week’s worth of sodium, then grab a plate at Fung Lum. The food quality is super low and most items are overcooked and dry. Lame!

Ga quay chao – Ben Tre

Ga quay chao Ben Tre
Baked five spice chicken marinated in lemongrass and rich herb sauce, served with rice, salad, and fish sauce. $11.25
Ben Tre Vietnamese Homestyle Cuisine, South San Francisco CA

Ga quay chao Ben Tre
I’m not sure if this was actually baked, it had a semi-fried texture to me. Maybe it was just finished in the oven. But it was very flavorful and delicious. A bit on the salty side especially if you add the fish sauce, but I think Vietnamese food tends to be salty anyway.

Pulled pork eggs benedict – Roux Louisiana Kitchen

Pulled pork eggs benedict Roux Louisiana Kitchen
2 poached eggs on homemade biscuits covered in hollandaise sauce, served with red beans and rice and sourdough toast. $13
Roux Louisiana Kitchen, San Jose CA

Ugh! The pulled pork was super dry and the sourdough toast was just a couple thin slices of baguette. Even the rice and beans were uneventful.

2 item combo – All Season Sushi

Orange chicken All Season Sushi
Orange chicken.

Stuffed eggplant All Season Sushi
Stuffed eggplant with ground pork.

Chicken fried rice All Season Sushi
Chicken fried rice.
Choose any two items from their steam table with rice or chow mein. $6.85
All Season Sushi, San Francisco CA

This place is one of those sketchy sushi restaurants that also has a walk-in to-go Chinese food counter in the front. I think everybody who works here is actually Chinese, even the guys behind the sushi bar. That said, I have no shame in heading over when I need a cheap and quick fix of salty, saucy Chinese food.

Baja fish tacos – Punto de Vista Restaurant

Baja fish tacos Punto de Vista Restaurant
Breaded whitefish, lettuce, and tomato in a creamy mango sauce wrapped in soft tortillas, served with arroz habichuela (rice and beans). $11
Punto de Vista Restaurant, Old San Juan, PUERTO RICO

Even though this was similar to the churrasquitos, I liked it better because the fish had a better texture and was warmer than the steak. Still not a taco, but good enough.

Looking down towards the red Puerta de San Juan (San Juan Gate) at nighttime. We walked the Paseo de la Princesa the following day. That’s the waterfront path which runs in front of the San Juan Gate.
