Yauatcha, London ENGLAND

Sticky rice in lotus leaf - Yauatcha
Mmm, this sticky rice was very flavorful! I was happily surprised that we each got individual portions because I was enjoying all the delicious food and didn’t want to share, lol. I think I ended finishing up David’s portion too. 🙂 I liked the texture of the rice and it was fun discovering the little pieces of chicken and dried shrimp hidden within.

Chicken curry madras – The Stockpot

Chicken curry madras - The Stockpot
Chicken and mixed vegetable curry over rice, served with chips, carrots and cabbage. Set menu £8.20
The Stockpot, London ENGLAND

Ugh, you call this curry! I was really disappointed in this dish because I know that London has amazing curry, but I guess I ordered it in the wrong place. Shame on me. This madras curry was really sad and didn’t have any of the authentic flavors I was looking for. The fries were good though, thank goodness for that!

Lamb meatballs with gravy

Lamb meatballs with gravy
Served with hummus and white rice.
Sitges ES

Mmm, I love lamb meatballs. And these were covered in a yummy gravy, score! The meatballs were tender and super flavorful, and the gravy tasted great with the rice and even the hummus.

Sweet and sour chicken – United Airlines

Sweet and sour chicken - United Airlines
Served with fried rcie, side salad with ranch dressing, dinner roll, butterscotch brownie.
San Francisco (SFO) to Paris (CDG), United Airlines

Ugh! I would say that this was a joke of Chinese food, but I’m pretty sure sweet and sour chicken is an American invention in the first place. I’m just gonna say that this was NOT good, yuck!

Vegetarian combo plate – Goood Frikin’ Chicken

Vegetarian combo plate - Goood Frikin' Chicken
House salad, dolmas, falafel balls, hummus, baba ghannooj, tahini sauce, olive oil pita and garlic dip. $9.25
Goood Frikin’ Chicken, San Francisco CA

We ordered this as a shared appetizer (it’s actually listed as an entree on their menu), and it was SO much food! Everything was delicious except the falafel were overcooked and hard. We couldn’t finish everything before our entrees arrived which was fine because we kept using the hummus, baba ganoush, tahini, and garlic dip as extra sauces. NOMS!

Loco moco – L&L Hawaiian Barbecue

Loco moco - L&L Hawaiian Barbecue
Savory hamburger patty placed over rice, covered with brown gravy and topped with 1 egg over easy. Served with macaroni salad. Mini $5.75
L&L Hawaiian Barbecue, Millbrae CA

OMG, I love loco moco! I justify ordering this by saying that at least I only buy the mini size instead of the regular, lol. L&L’s version is great and comforting. I also love their macaroni salad so it’s a win-win!

Beef dol sot bi bim bap – K-pop

Beef dol sot bi bim bap - K-pop
Rice bowl mixed with cooked vegetables, fried egg, nori and served on a hot stone pot with soup. $14.95
K-pop, San Francisco CA

Mmm, salty beef with rice and a runny egg. Sounds like heaven to me! This is a sizable bowl which is good for the fifteen-buck price tag. Like I’ve said, the food here tends to be on the salty side but the Korean flavors still shine through.

Barbecued pork fried rice – Jade Cafe

Barbecued pork fried rice - Jade Cafe
Peas, onion, egg, carrot, scallions. $5.80
Jade Cafe, San Francisco CA

This rice was SO frickin’ dry! I’ve made fried rice plenty of times so I know that it’s best made with older-made rice that has had time to dry out a bit. But this rice was pretty inedible. The rice was probably many days old because the grains were so tough and chewy. GROSS!

Taco plates – Crazy Coyote Tacos

Taco plates - Crazy Coyote Tacos
1 fish taco, 1 steak taco, rice, refried beans, and canned beverage. $8
Crazy Coyote Tacos, Banning CA

Mmm, I love the tacos at Crazy Coyote! The fish taco is still my favorite, but it’s really about that thick corn tortilla. Noms!

Pollo al horno – Sol Food

Pollo al horno - Sol Food
Free-range, wheat-free boneless, skinless chicken thighs marinated with oregano and garlic then baked. Served with rice, black beans, fried green plantain (tostones con mojo), sweet fried yellow plantain (maduros), organic salad. Two pieces $12.25
Sol Food, San Rafael CA

Wow, this chicken was REALLY flavorful especially when drowned in their addictive hot sauce! The rice, beans and salad were fine but nothing special. I definitely liked the sweet plantain better than the fried green plaintain. The green plantain was too dry and hard for my liking. You also get a lot of food for your money!

Hot sauce - Sol Food

Fried plantain and black bean burrito – The Little Chihuahua

Fried plantain and black bean burrito - The Little Chihuahua
With cheese, roasted red bell peppers, rice, sour cream, smoky chile salsa, pico de gallo and fresh cilantro and onion. $9.95
The Little Chihuahua, San Francisco

Wow, this burrito is definitely filling! I guess you don’t find a lot of fried plantain burritos in The City and maybe that’s why it’s on the 7×7 Big Eat List, but this isn’t my favorite item on their menu. Don’t get me wrong, it’s good but I actually expected it to be a little more flavorful.

Chips and salsa - The Little Chihuahua
Chips and with habanero and chipotle salsas. Complimentary
I like that Little Chihuahua has a salsa bar, but I’m not impressd with the options. All the salsa tend to be on the sour side.

Abalone style calamari – Hula’s Island Grill

Abalone style calamari - Hula's Island Grill
With lime-ginger sauce and soy glaze, rice and mango salsa. $5
Hula’s Island Grill, Santa Cruz CA

This tasted ok, but the squid steak had a super squishy texture which I didn’t like. I liked the sauces they used and the addition of rice and mango salsa though. It was also nicely fried so it wasn’t greasy.
