Breakfast #2 – Best Western Hotel La Corona

Breakfast #2 - Best Western Hotel La Corona
Pan fried fish with onions, sautéed vegetables, kielbasa, garlic fried rice, scramble eggs with tomato, and berry cheese pastry. Complimentary
Best Western Hotel La Corona, Manila PHILIPPINES

Another random collection of food at the breakfast buffet. I didn’t like the fish very much especially since everything tended to be pretty cold. I love garlic fried rice though! I should have ordered another plate of the bacon but I think I was pacing myself for the day. Hehe!

“Marlowe” burger – Park Tavern

Marlowe burger - Park Tavern
Caramelized onion, cheddar, bacon, horseradish aioli and fries. $15
Park Tavern, San Francisco CA

Their sister restaurant Marlowe has a very popular burger that’s supposed to be amazing so I think Park Tavern adopted it too. The burger was very juicy and flavorful and the fries were crispy and delicious! The meal overall was very tasty, but I wish our server had brought out ALL the food we ordered. They didn’t forget to charge us for everything though! Kinda unprofessional to forget a dish even when asked multiple times about it.

Pork sisig – Leslie’s Restaurant

Pork sisig - Leslie's Restaurant
Boiled, grilled, then sauteed pork meat with various spices, onions, ginger and calamansi. 299 PHP
Leslie’s Restaurant, Tagaytay PHILIPPINES

Mmm, pork sisig is SO tasty! Yeah, it’s not the healthiest thing to eat, but I was on vacation. I deserved to splurged a little (maybe a whole lot really).

Stir fried chicken with lemongrass – Vietnamese Kitchen

Stir fried chicken with lemongrass - Vietnamese Kitchen
Ga xao xa ot. With chilies and onions, served with steamed rice. 114,000 VND
Vietnamese Kitchen, Ho Chi Minh City VIETNAM

Omg, this chicken was SO horrible! It was probably the driest chicken I’ve eaten in a really long time and it tasted old. Ugh, I couldn’t eat more than a few bites. This restaurant is ridiculous for charging so much for really disgusting food.

Chinese New Year decorations
Parts of the city were still splashed with Chinese New Year decorations, but they were slowly removed as the week progressed.

Roasted pepper and burrata tart – Park Tavern

Roasted pepper and burrata tart - Park Tavern
Crispy puff pastry, spicy pork sausage, caramelized onions, broccoli rabe, and bagna cauda vinaigrette. $14
Park Tavern, San Francisco CA

Do I need to reiterate my love for burrata? Lol. Mmm, this was so good! I sometimes wish that I could afford a personal chef who would make me beautiful snacks like this all day long. 🙂

Beef salad – Nha Hang Ngon

Beef salad - Nha Hang Ngon
Goi bo bop thau. With vegetables and peanuts in spicy sauce, served with shrimp chips. 130,000 VND
Nha Hang Ngon, Ho Chi Minh City VIETNAM

Beef salad - Nha Hang Ngon
Wow, this dish was SO delicious! The bright, sour sauce was great and the beef was so tender and flavorful. I’m not sure what all the vegetables were, but they tasted great and had many different textures. Definitely a wonderful choice!

Puppies for sale
Puppies for sale! While walking down the sidewalk, we notice a guy selling these adorable puppies from the back of his motorcycle. There were probably a dozen of them and I wanted ONE! 🙂

Spicy salt and pepper chicken – Chelu Bar & Grill

Spicy salt and pepper chicken - Chelu Bar & Grill
With sauteed onions and bell peppers, served with vinegar sauce. 238 PHP
Chelu Bar and Grill, Manila PHILIPPINES

I was really confused by this dish. When I saw the menu item, I didn’t expect it to come out with a mound of sautéed vegetables on top. Oh well, it still tasted fine. And dipping anything in a vinegar based sauce is fine by me!

Cocktails - Chelu Bar & Grill
Margarita and mai tai. The cocktails here weren’t very good at all! It was definitely better to stick with beer.

Beef noodle soup – Pho 2000

Beef noodle soup - Pho 2000
Pho bo. Sliced beef with flat rice noodles, onions, and chives. Served with basil, greens, limes, and habanero peppers. Regular 65,000 VND
Pho 2000, Ho Chi Minh City VIETNAM

I think I like beef pho better than chicken pho. The broth has a lot more flavor and I think it’s more fun to eat with chopsticks, especially if you have to try and separate the thin slices of beef. This soup was very tasty and such a great value!

Boccalone antipasto platter – Incanto

Boccalone antipasto platter - Incanto
Assorted salumi served with roasted garlic, pickled radishes and onions, and coarse mustard.
Incanto, San Francisco CA

I LOVE SALUMI! Boccalone (Chris Cosentino’s salumeria) makes some fine cured meats. They have a storefront in the SF Ferry Building, and Incanto also sold some of their products at the restaurant. The meats were SO tender and flavorful. I loved everything on the plate!

Chicken noodle soup – Pho 2000

Chicken noodle soup - Pho 2000
Pho ga. Sliced chicken breast with flat rice noodles, onions, and chives. Served with basil, greens, limes, and habanero peppers. Regular 65,000 VND
Pho 2000, Ho Chi Minh City VIETNAM

This was the first real meal we had in Vietnam and it was pretty good. The broth was delicious and it was SUPER cheap! The place was packed with tourists and locals alike. This is when I realized that we would be served lots of random greens that we wouldn’t recognize, and also that restaurants charge for wet naps. 🙂

Soup accompaniments - Pho 2000
Basil, leaf stalks that I’ve never seen before, limes, and habanero peppers.

Tavern burger – Stock in Trade

Tavern burger - Stock in Trade
Angus beef, aged Grafton cheddar, two fried eggs, pickles, caramelized onions, aioli, toasted Acme bun and fries. $13
Stock in Trade, San Francisco CA

This burger had a lot of flavor but it was super cold and lifeless! It was definitely a service mistake and I’m kinda surprised they served it. Damn, I would have microwaved it myself to get a bit of warmth on the plate!

Tavern burger - Stock in Trade

Mimosas - Stock in Trade

Mimosas. This was one of the most bland mimosas I’ve ever tasted. Ew!

Grilled steak and egg sandwich – Stock in Trade

Grilled steak and egg sandwich - Stock in Trade
Grilled hanger steak, two fried eggs, pickled red onion, garlic aioli, wild arugula, chimichurri, toasted pain de mie, crispy skinny fries, and fruit. $13
Stock in Trade, San Francisco CA

This burger had a lot of great flavors, but it was super cold – EW! I think the server must have forgotten it on the counter for a long time before bringing it out. I was surprised that the skinny French fries stayed crispy and delicious though. I can only imagine how much better they would have been served warm. Kind lame, Stock in Trade!
