This was delicious! Oddly enough, the cauliflower puree was my favorite component. I loved its texture and flavor, and the toasted cashews were a perfect addition.

Post-dinner kitchen. We closed the restaurant and were treated to a little tour of the kitchen. You can see that they have it pretty much clean and closed up. I felt kind of bad for being the last table in the restaurant, but with all the additional courses we were served there was no way we could have finished any earlier. Aahhh! I thought it was also cool that they had a tv screen showing the Per Se kitchen in real time!

Wow, morning traffic in London is crazy! It took us a while to get to London Heathrow Airport with D driving. It seemed like got on 10 different highways and all of them crammed with cars. I was super tired so I kept falling in and out of sleep.

The direct flight back to San Francisco wasn’t too bad although Hubbs and I were in different rows. He sat directly in front of me. I had this annoying Russian girl beside me and a pleasant older couple on the other side. I ended up watching 3 movies and trying to nap a little bit.

Now I’m back in my sunny apartment and SO excited to be sleeping in my own bed tonight. I have to head into work tomorrow but that doesn’t seem to bad right now. David and I are having a Cinco de Sonoma weekend so I’ve got something to look forward to, yay!

I came here alone for brunch and totally over-ordered. I had this and a paper masala dosa – way too much food! This omelet was really good though! It had a soft texture and the filling was absolutely delicious. I also love all the extra sauces and toppings.

The Mint Karaoke Lounge, Market Street. I love this karaoke bar! I’m not a big singer – CORRECTION: I love to sing but don’t have the most melodious voice (hehe). This is a great place to start or end an evening out with a group of friends. Beware of the professional karaoke folk, but I guess you’ll find some at every karaoke joint.

My yummy food draught is still in full swing. For lunch I had greasy fried seafood at Captain D’s and by the time dinner came around, I was SO tired of the heavy, local “Southern” food that I went to Cracker Barrel near my hotel and ordered the grilled catfish. It was decent, but I think the cornbread muffins were my favorite part of the meal, hehe! I am definitely gonna gain a few pounds on this trip. I’ve been trying to work out, but the hotel gym has minimal equipment and it’s kinda sad in there.

These were really good and I love the bright colors on the plate. I think the vibrant green was basil infused olive oil. Charmoula sauce is typically for seafood, but it worked beautifully with the tender lamb meatballs.

And the rain has come back to the Bay Area! Wow, it was raining cats and dogs this morning. Silverfox and I went to Toast Eatery for breakfast. I accidentally left my cell phone at home and missed Kryan’s international phone call, oops! I’ll have to catch up with him next weekend while I’m in Charleston. Gotsta go into work for a couple of hours today then finish packing for tomorrow. We’re gonna try Jake’s, the new restaurant on Market Street, for dinner tonight. Not looking forward to my early flight tomorrow. 😦

Ugh! These dumplings were SO dry and the wrappers were kinda rubbery. Don’t the descriptions look great though? Too bad the kitchen couldn’t execute them properly.

We checked out of our hotel room today, had a great lunch at Toro Salao, and now we’re finally on the Celebrity Summit cruise ship! YAY, I’m SO excited to explore and eat, lol! The ship has been recently renovated so it’s pretty nice. The staff are super friendly and helpful. This will be my second cruise and I’m traveling with 10 friends so it should be a blast! I’ve gotta watch it though because food is available 24 hours a day, and you know how much I love to eat. LOL! Tonight we’re gonna dine in the main dining room, watch the Dame Edna Experience show, then head to the pool deck for the Welcome Dance Party. My vacation has now hit the next level.

I really liked this dish. The curry had a nice spiciness and the lamb was tender. We actually got really full during dinner so we took leftovers home.

This was an interesting dish. I guess we didn’t know what to expect when we ordered it, but a pulled lamb stew wasn’t it. It tasted good and the quinoa cakes were really cool. They were underneath and they had a great texture. The dish was on the small side and dull looking. It needed some additional color.

Wow, the pieces of lamb belly (with bones attached) are SO fatty, but delicious!  I love the flavors of this dish but there are way too many onions! I wish there was more of the long beans actually and that the whole thing was a little spicier.

There are many variations to Xinjian style lamb but they usually include chilies, cumin, and Szechuan peppercorns. This was my favortie dish of the night. The lamb was SO tasty! Add the warm, buttery bun and the raita and you have a total winner! Noms! It was also fun to fill your own bun and stuff your face with it. 🙂

The food at Kasa is very comforting to me. Everything packs a punch of flavor, it fast, convenient, and relatively inexpensive. I’ve loved their kati rolls since the first time I tried them. The buttery roti is amazing and the fillings are SO tasty. I always get mine with extra hot sauce in the roll and extra raita on the side. The perfect amount is one and a half rolls! One roll is too little and two is too much. Darn, hehe!

When I took this pics, I was on my way to meet Hubbs for drinks. It was dark outside and I sat at the side counter where they have these yellow lights beaming down on you. The walls are also painted yellow so parts of the restaurant are just saturated in yellow. It made for some interesting pics.

Unfortunate Helen Keller dinner – Johannes Restaurant

Ok, the title of this blog entry is a little unfair, but I wanted to vent a little bit. I actually had a very good experience at Johannes. The service was excellent as was the food.

But I’m just gonna go out and say it – I hate super dark restaurants!

For me, part of an amazing dining experience is being able to actually see what I’m eating. For instance, my duck appetizer tasted great and I’m sure it looked amazing – BUT I COULDN’T SEE IT! I really wanted to see the amazing roasted duck against the dark lentils and the beautifully drizzled raspberry vinaigrette. BUT everything looked just like a dark lump. I tried positioning the candle to get better shots to no avail. What you see on this blog is WAY better than what I actually saw in person!

How does a dimly lit room improve my dining experience!? I can’t see my food. I can’t see my dining my guest. I CAN’T SEE ANYTHING!!!

This is becoming such a pet peeve for me that I’m tempted to decline my next reservation if I enter a restaurant and see that it’s lit like a Paleozoic cave! Just wait, I’m gonna do it! This is ridiculous!

So in conclusion, I enjoyed my dinner but it was a little overpriced considering that I couldn’t FULLY enjoy my meal.

Very bright and refreshing. This was a simple salad that you can easily make at home. I think the hardest part would be leafing the brussels sprouts, probably very labor intensive.

My favorite dish of the night. It was served cold and tasted amazing. I’m sure it was beautifully composed, but I really couldn’t see much of it. The dark duck on the dark lentils looked like a black blob in the restaurant. The flavor were great and the textures were fun.

The kangaroo didn’t taste as crazy as I thought it would. I guess the chef recommends it served medium rare, but this came out pretty rare. I wish I would have ordered it medium instead. It was very tender and the reduction tasted great. The bosc pear came out super hot and delicious, and I loved the mixed topping.

Wow, you get a LOT of lamb – 6 ribs of it! This was very delicious and super tender. I wish the grilled green onions weren’t on the plate though. They seemed too clunky for an otherwise beautiful plate.

The shawerma at Truly Mediterranean are SO big and SO yummy!  The meat is tender and flavorful, and I love the meaty broiled tomato wedges.  The seasonings they put on everything is so good, as is the tahini sauce.  I always agree to add the hot sauce, but it’s not very hot.  So for those who need the heat, don’t expect much.  Regardless, this wrap is very delicious and will definitely fill you up.  The guys at the 16th Street store are very friendly and helpful.  It’s a tiny shop with a stand up counter and a couple sidewalk tables.  I don’t go there for the ambiance, I go for the food!

I ordered the lamb cooked medium, and I must say that they did a wonderful job!  It had a great crust on the outside and was nice and tender on the inside, just how a lamb rack should be.  It had a wonderful flavor and paired well with the Zinfandel and wasabi sauces.  I must note that the scalloped potatoes had an overwhelming truffle aroma and taste. A little truffle oil goes a long way – remember that when cooking with it at home!  The mushroom custard was a nice surprise accompaniment since it wasn’t on the menu.
