Jilled-up hush puppies - Zella's Soulful Kitchen
Mmm, these were delicious! They were beautifully fried, moist, and not greasy at all. I loved the whole corn kernels inside – they were like little hidden treats. The aioli was pretty light so along with the parsley they kept the fried balls fresh tasting. Take note all you other street vendors, this is how you properly fry food! πŸ™‚

Toffee mealworms vanilla ice cream – Don Bugito

Toffee mealworms vanilla ice cream - Don Bugito
Was this novelty dessert worth five bucks? I have to say no. The vanilla ice cream was already melted, and the mealworms were super dry and burnt tasting (I don’t think I tasted any toffee). I didn’t like the powdery/crumbly texture in my mouth. I’m glad I tried it, but it didn’t deliver on flavor and texture. $5

Fried pickled green beans – Jarred SF Brine

Fried pickled green beans - Jarred SF Brine
With aioli dipping sauce. $3
Jarred SF Brine, SF Street Food Festival 2013, San Francisco CA

These beans were very pickled tasting which was great, but they were SUPER greasy. I ate a couple and didn’t want to finish the rest. It was like chomping on a sticks of oil! And I can appreciate that they’ve prepared a lot of beans for the Street Food Festival, but they could have at least cleaned up the stems. Definitely not one of the highlights of the day.

Ham and cheese roll – United Airlines

Ham and cheese roll - United Airlines
On a parmesan pretzel roll, with potato chips and chocolate cluster.
London (LHR) to San Francisco (SFO), United Airlines

It’s nice to receive a warm “breakfast”, and this was decent. The roll was on the hard and chewy side, but it had ham and cheese so it was bearable. The potato chips were throw-aways (very poor quality). The chocolate cluster wasn’t very good either, but it I’m not gonna complain too much about a sweet treat!

Marin miyagi oysters – Basa Seafood Express

Marin miyagi oysters - Basa Seafood Express
Complimentary sushi. 2 oysters $3
Basa Seafood Express, SF Street Food Festival 2013, San Francisco CA

These were SO gross! Granted I’m not a fan of large oysters, and these miyagis weren’t even that large, but they were luke warm (and it was a warm day out), poorly shucked (there were shell bits everywhere!), and they didn’t look or taste fresh! I drowned the smaller of the two oysters in lime juice hoping to kill any lingering bacteria and reluctantly ate it. It tasted disgusting so I threw away the second oyster. Ugh, SO disgusting! Even the sushi sample tasted old!

Pork sisig taco – Senor Sisig

Pork sisig taco - Senor Sisig
6″ corn tortilla, onions, lettuce and cilantro cream sauce. $3
Senor Sisig, SF Street Food Festival 2013, San Francisco CA

Ugh! I was really excited to try the sisig taco because I’ve read quite a bit about this food truck. I was sadly disappointed because the pork had an odd flavor and it was WAY too tart. I love sisig, but this didn’t do it for me. Perhaps their burritos are better, but then again it’s the same sisig filling inside. 😦

Oreo cookie McFlurry – McDonald’s

Oreo cookie McFlurry - McDonald's

Soft serve reduced fat vanilla ice cream mixed with Oreo cookies. 340 calories, 11g fat. $1
McDonald’s, South San Francisco CA

Ho hum. I needed a little treat in the afternoon so I went out and got a nostalgic McFlurry. The Oreo cookie flavor is definitely the best! Mmm… I can’t believe the snack size is a whopping 340 calories though! I guess that’s why it’s a “treat”.

String bean beef – Red Jade

String bean beef - Red Jade
This dish was pretty tasty and not too greasy. I liked how they used larger cuts of beef so that they’re still recognizable as such. The beef was also properly cut in cross section for ease of chewing. And the was plenty of flavorful string beans. $8.95

Double double burger “loaded” – In-N-Out Burger

Double double burger loaded - In-N-Out Burger
Two 100% pure beef patties, lettuce, tomato, spread, two slices of American cheese on a freshly baked bun.Β  “Animal style” with extra spread, pickles,Β and grilled onions. “With chopped chilies” adds slices of spicy yellow pickled chili peppers. And I also requested a side of peppers, lol. $3.40
In-N-Out Burger, Millbrae CA

OK, so I ordered this double double burger “animal style with chopped chilies”. Omg, it was huge and amazing!!! My co-worker recently told me about the chilies option on their hidden menu. Well I love spicy peppers so I thought I’d give it a try. This burger definitely filled me up, and it was messy and fabulous. The yellow chilies actually had some kick too! I was expecting mild pepperoncini slices, but these had some heat to them. Oh, how I love you In-N-Out!

Schmaltz rice – Mission Chinese Food

Schmaltz rice - Mission Chinese Food
Dressed in chicken fat, with cucumber, cilantro, ginger, green onion, fried garlic and hot sauce. $7.50
Mission Chinese Food, San Francisco CA

Ok, how can rice cooked with chicken fat not be simply amazing?! This was SO tasty. The rice had a softer texture with the fatty dressing and a lot more flavor. I can confirm that this rice had no chance and was quickly devoured!

Noms, these were SO tasty! I don’t think I’ve ever had Shanghai soup dumplings with crab in them, and they didn’t break, yay! Even the shu mai was fancy with large chunks of prawn and chicken. Mmm, I’m craving dim sum now. πŸ™‚
