Blue crab and avocado salad – Palio

Blue crab and avocado salad Palio
On grilled tomato with lime vinaigrette, served with toasted bread. $9
Palio, Old San Juan, PUERTO RICO

These were SO weird and totally not what we expected. The crab salad had a really weird texture, flavor, and color. And the grilled tomatoes were super cold. I was not a fan. 😦

San Juan Bay
View of San Juan Bay from the Palio balcony. There were usually a couple of cruise ships parked out front, but the terminals were oddly empty this particular day.

Los numeros #1 – Zapata Mexican Grill

Los numeros #1 - Zapata Mexican Grill
1 chile relleno, 1 flauta, and 1 chicken enchilada served with rice, black beans, green salad, guacamole and sour cream. $12.50
Zapata Mexican Grill, San Francisco

Los numeros #1 Zapata Mexican Grill

I don’t remember where the flauta went – I probably devoured it before remembering to take the pic, hehe. You can see that this plate is packed with food. That’s probably why I stumble over to this place after a night with friends, lol! I always seem to order enchiladas at Mexican restaurants, but I think I was super hungry so I got this combination. You can’t go wrong with adding a deep fried chile relleno and a flauta and everything smothered in cheese.

Soft shell crab roll – Hecho

Project 365: Day 68

Work is going by SO slowly! I still haven’t packed anything for my trip yet but I have finished all my laundry so choosing outfits should be relatively easy. I also need to make sure that all my bills are paid so I don’t miss any payments while I’m gone. Ho hum.

Soft shell crab roll Hecho

Deep fried soft shell crab and avocado. $9
Hecho, San Francisco

I loved how large this roll was, but on the other hand there was only 6 pieces. You can’t go wrong with soft shell crab though!

Buckeye roll – Asian Gourmet & Sushi Bar

Project 365: Day 59

Running around town(s) performing errands before Codes’ birthday party tonight. Just went and bought 10 potted orchids for centerpieces, dropped some stuff off at the event site, then gonna help prepare some food for the buffet. That sounds like a lot, but it’s actually been a pretty chill day. We kinda partied a little too hard last night and now we’re not feeling so spectacular today, hehe! At least I’ll look cute tonight!

Buckeye roll Asian Gourmet & Sushi Bar

Tuna, salmon, yellowtail, cream cheese, avocado, flash fried, topped with spicy tuna, spicy mayo, wasabi mayo, scallions, unagi sauce, masago. $12
Asian Gourmet & Sushi Bar, Gahanna OH

This monster roll had A LOT going on! Actually, there was too much going on and you really couldn’t figure out what everything was. It tasted great though, but so does everything that’s deep fried. I guess I ordered it because I AM in Buckeye territory and I thought that it’d be a safe bet in terms of sushi in a midwestern state. I remember having sushi in Ohio last year, and it was horrible. This wasn’t that bad.

Lincecum sandwich – Ike’s Place

Lincecum sandwich Ike's Place

Ham, turkey, bacon, avocado, havarti, lettuce, tomato, dirty sauce on Dutch crunch bread. $11.11
Ike’s Place, San Francisco

Get the Dutch crunch bread, it’s SO good! I love this hearty sandwich too! It’s very meaty, but the addition of avocado helps to mellow out all the heavy proteins.

Sea urchin and Dungeness crab parfait – RN74

Sea urchin and Dungeness crab parfait RN74

With avocado, green apple, pistachio, trout roe. $10 supplement. New Year four-course tasting menu $80
RN74, San Francisco

I think there’s also pea shoots in there! This was very good and very different. Most of the textures were soft and creamy, but the crisp apples were a nice contrast. The avocado was almost like a mouse and they put it on the bottom of the bowl. The sea urchin tasted clean and fresh and the trout roe added a little saltiness. Very tasty!

Mixto ceviche – Pisco Latin Lounge

Mixto ceviche Pisco Latin Lounge

Mexican mahi mahi, habanero, baby octopus, tiger prawns, tomato, meyer lemon, avocado. $12
Pisco Latin Lounge, San Francisco

This was very tasty! Maybe a little on the citrus-y side, but it had lots of flavor. I love the pieces of octopus tentacles, they were fun to eat. I didn’t like that it was served in a martini glass though, especially one with such a small base. It’s always difficult to pass around and I’m always afraid that I’ll tip it over since it’s so top heavy.

Albacore tuna tostadas – Tacolicious

Albacore tuna tostadas Tacolicious

“Contramar-style”. Sliced tuna with crispy leeks, chipotle mayo, avocado on a crispy tostada. $10.95
Tacolicious, San Francisco

Very tasty! I love the textures in the this. The crispy deep fried leeks and the crispy tostada with the soft tuna and creamy avocado. Squeeze the lime on top to brighten it up and you have yourself a delicious meal.

Chips and salsa Tacolicious

Chips and salsa. Complimentary. Dee-lish! The salsa is SO good!

Combo enchilada platter – Taqueria San Jose

Combo enchilada platter Taqueria San Jose

One carne asada (grilled beef) and one pollo (grilled chicken) wrapped in corn tortillas and topped with enchilada sauce and white cheese. Served Mexican rice, refried beans, lettuce, sour cream and guacamole.
Taqueria San Jose, San Francisco

Omg, SO good! This plate totally hit the spot and it was pretty big! I also loved their refried beans, nice and rich and flavorful. You can definitely taste the fatty goodness in them. I would order this again in a heartbeat!

Sangria Taqueria San Jose

Sangria. I’ve never had sangria in a paper cup, but the nice girl at the counter told us that you get way more sangria in the paper cups versus their wine glasses and you get charged the same price. Score! And they tasted pretty good, too!

Random grocery store dinner – Safeway

Sometimes I’m so tired from a full day of work followed by a gym workout, that I really don’t want to cook or even go to a restaurant for food. That’s when I swing by Safeway on my way home and grab some cheap and “somewhat” tasty food items. It’s not the best, but it hits the spot and doesn’t break the bank!
Safeway, San Francisco

Rock 'n roll sushi Safeway

Rock ‘n roll sushi. The sushi at Safeway isn’t of very good quality, but it’s passable. Just douse it in more soy sauce and it’ll go down fairly easily, lol!

Monterey sardine and avocado toast – Contigo

Monterey sardine and avocado toast Contigo

Wood oven roasted Monterey sardine and avocado with pickled onions and smoked salt. $2.50
Contigo, San Francisco

I know that sardines tend to be super oily and fishy tasting, but this one was especially so. In addition, it was hard to bite through. I love the concept of this, but the sardine was way too overpowering. It was pretty to look at! 🙂
