Walu nigiri – Hecho

Project 365: Day 66

This is the day I went to French Laundry in Yountville. It was an 8:45 dinner reservation so I drove all the way up and had to drive back to the city afterward because I had to work the next morning. My friend has a Per Se connection so we received spectacular service and extra food, heck yeah! We were in and out of the restaurant in 5 hours! Previously, my longest dinner was 4 hours at Mistral Kitchen in Seattle. Dinner was amazing and I can’t wait to go back!

Walu nigiri Hecho

Hawaiian butterfish. $6
Hecho, San Francisco

This was definitely a buttery fish, SO good! I have to say that overall, Hecho is a bit overpriced though.

Edamame Hecho

Edamame, boiled soy beans. $5

Margaritas – Hecho

Project 365: Day 65

So I’ve recently returned from an 11-day trip to Puerto Rico/cruise to the southern Caribbean. I gladly didn’t have internet during the trip, but now I’m completely slammed with a huge backlog of posts that I need to complete. I also couldn’t post anything for Project 365 so this is what I’m gonna do from now on. I won’t be posting a pic from that particular day for my Project 365 posts, but I will continue to use these posts as journal/daily entries. I’ll try to catch up on all my posts, but please be patient.  🙂

7 spice margarita Hecho

7 spice margarita – Don Julio Blanco tequila, cucumber, agave, lime juice, togarashi spice. $12
Hecho, San Francisco

I loved this margarita! It was nice and spicy and so flavorful!

Hecho margarita

Hecho margarita – Partida Reposado tequila, fresh lime and agave nectar. $10
This margarita was a bit boring compared to the 7 spice margarita. There also wasn’t very much tequila so it lacked any kind of punch.

Water Hecho

Cute water glasses.

Lamb guisado – Canela

Lamb guisado Canela

Lamb stew on seasoned quinoa cakes. Tapa $11
Canela, San Francisco

This was an interesting dish. I guess we didn’t know what to expect when we ordered it, but a pulled lamb stew wasn’t it. It tasted good and the quinoa cakes were really cool. They were underneath and they had a great texture. The dish was on the small side and dull looking. It needed some additional color.

Garlicky gambas – Canela

Garlicky gambas Canela

Shrimp with smoky paprika, sherry and lemon. Tapa $9
Canela, San Francisco

This was a different take on the gambas al ajillo that you normally get at other Spanish tapas restaurants. The smoky paprika added a lot of flavor and gave the broth a beautiful red color. The lemon wedge is also cooked into the sauce and gave the broth a nice citrus-y taste. The shrimp were cooked a little more than I would have liked, but the sauce made up for it. Ask for additional bread to soak it all up!

Roasted red pepper salad – Canela

Project 365: Day 62

Tried out Canela for a pre-birthday celebration for Silverfox. My roommate had already been here and said that it was pretty good. We’re planning to have a nicer dinner in San Juan next week to really celebrate Silverfox’s birthday but it’s nice to go out and have a dinner closer to the actual date of his special day.

Roasted red pepper salad Canela

With apple, manchego cheese, walnut, flat leaf parsley, lemon, olive oil, egg. $8
Canela, San Francisco

This salad was really refreshing. I loved all the different components but I have to say that the Italian parsley was killer in this salad! In combination with the lemon, it really helped to brighten up the salad and gave it a fanastic flavor. I would definitely order this again!

Red sangria Canela

Red sangria. Bottle $21
I really enjoyed this sangria. It was overly sweet and the wine that they used had a great flavor. It wasn’t too bitter or funky tasting. Noms!

Classic breakfast – Wolfgang Puck Express

Classic breakfast Wolfgang Puck Express

Scrambled eggs, sausage, potatoes, and wheat toast. $8.89
Wolfgang Puck Express, CMH Columbus OH

I was SO hungry and this was SO disappointing! The eggs were such a weird consistency, the toast was limp, the potatoes were boring, and they didn’t have bacon so I had to get sausage. Super lame! And they were so frickin’ slow!

Coffee Wolfgang Puck Express

Coffee. $1.69
I hated this cheap coffee cup.

BBQ baby back ribs – Tyler Florence Rotisserie

Project 365: Day 61

Flew back from Ohio through Chicago this morning. Caught a 9am flight and was able to get back to San Francisco before 1pm and was able to squeeze in a few hours of work before the day was over. Love visiting Codes, but also glad to be back home.

BBQ baby back ribs Tyler Florence Rotisserie

With a macaroni with local cheeses and sauteed green beans. $13.50
Tyler Florence Rotisserie, SFO San Francisco

I love Terminal 2 at the San Francisco International Airport. It’s small, clean, and has amazing food options (for an airport). These ribs were tasty and reasonably priced. I really enjoyed the macaroni and cheese with the chunky bread crumb topping. The green beans – not so much.

Prince Edward Isle mussels – Hubbard Grille

Prince Edward Isle mussels Hubbard Grille

Chef’s beer selection, basil and sundried tomatoes, served with toasted baguette slices and lemon wedge. $12 ($6 for Sunday happy hour)
Hubbard Grille, Columbus OH

I’m glad that these mussels weren’t overcooked. The shellfish was still plump and juicy, yay! I really liked the broth too. Perhaps it was the beer, hehe!

Cornmeal dusted calamari – Hubbard Grille

Cornmeal dusted calamari Hubbard Grille

Served with Sriracha garlic aioli and lemon. $11 ($5.50 for Sunday happy hour)
Hubbard Grille, Columbus OH

These were really tasty. I loved the Sriracha garlic aioli. Some of the squid pieces were kinda greasy so I had to leave them in the bowl – I think they were cooked at too low a temperature. Other than that, I enjoyed these and I’m glad that they included plenty of the tentacles.

Short ribs and shrimp – Hubbard Grille

Short ribs and shrimp Hubbard Grille

Pulled beef short rib and three sauteed shrimp, white cheddar grits and spicy tomato jus, garnished with chopped scallions. $13 ($6.50 for Sunday happy hour)
Hubbard Grille, Columbus OH

Mmm, I really enjoyed this! I think it’s the perfect share – not too big and absolutely delicious! I loved all the different flavors and textures. Everything was perfect! Ok, almost perfect. The shrimp were slightly overcooked, but who cares! This was definitely my favorite snack that we ordered.
