Bo luc lac - Zadin
Shaken Beef. Cubes of angus filet mignon, wok-seared medium rare with onions and garlic. Served on a bed of mixed greens, brown rice, and topped with yam fries. $20

I don’t know why I expect every version of Shaking Beef to be good! This was ok, but the beef was a little tough. Oh well, the search continues…

Rare grilled ahi tuna – Lot 7

Rare grilled ahi tuna - Lot 7
Artichoke, cauliflower, roasted potatoes, muhammara. $25
Lot 7, San Francisco CA

This was delicious! The tuna was beautiful and the vegetables were perfectly cooked too. I’ve never had muhammara before, but this condiment was SO tasty! I guess it’s traditionally made from aleppo peppers, ground walnuts, breadcrumbs, and olive oil and can have additional ingredients. Noms!

Escolar crudo – Staple & Fancy

Escolar crudo - Staple & Fancy
With roasted peppers and micro greens. Family style supper $46 per person
Staple and Fancy, Seattle WA

Mmm, SO good! I remember hearing that there’s some kind of controversy with escolar, I think because they’re often mislabeled or something. Anyway, this was delicious whatever it was, lol!

Lebanese kibbeh – La Mediterranee

Lebanese kibbeh - La Mediterranee
Local, grass-fed fresh ground lamb and cracked wheat, seasoned and baked with pine nuts. Served with green salad, fruit and cheese. $13.95
La Mediterranee, San Francisco CA

I had NO idea what I was ordering, and when it came out it was NOT what I was imagining, lol! But it was SO frickin’ good! It’s kind of like a very moist, flavorful lamb meatloaf. I really enjoyed it, and it was large enough that I took some home and enjoy it the next day. Heck yeah!

The ultimate sliders potluck!

The ultimate slider

Bam, this slider rocked!

For our last potluck at work, a co-worker and I decided that we would team up and bring sliders. He would be in charge of the meat and buns, and I would bring all the toppings. What resulted was the best, juiciest, most flavorful sliders EVER, lol! He ended up grilling the beef patties and toasting the buns on a George Foreman grill in the office, and I skillfully laid out all the toppings. I like to think that a stampede ensued to grab all the available sliders! 🙂

Slider toppings
Colby jack cheese, avocado, tomatoes, and a spicy smoked paprika aioli (I tweaked a recipe I found on Epicurious).

Slider toppings
Romaine hearts and spicy capicola chips (I slowed dried the capicola slices in the oven).

Here are a couple pics of other items brought in.

Garlic prawns – Zadin

Garlic prawns - Zadin
Prawns lightly fried and tossed in a caramelized garlic chili sauce. Served on a bed of coconut scented rice and garnished with a pea shoot mango salad. $19
Zadin, San Francisco CA

This was flavorful, but definitely over-sauced. I love me some sauce, but these poor prawns were drowned in it and totally got lost. The pea shoot and mango salad was very tasty though.

Middle Eastern plate – La Mediterranee

Middle Eastern plate - La Mediterranee
Chicken Cilicia, Grecian spinach and feta, Levant sandwich, and Lule kebab (lamb meatball) over rice pilaf. Served with cup of curry cauliflower soup, hummus, fruit and cheese. $13.50
La Mediterranee, San Francisco CA

Damn, this plate was certainly a value! And all the components were really yummy, expect maybe the levant sandwich because it was a little dry for me. This was enough food to feed two people though especially after having had an appetizer.

Caffeine break – Ritual Coffee

Kiawamururu espresso - Ritual Coffee
Sweet Tooth: Kiawamururu. Single origin espresso from, Nyeri, kenya. Tastes like: pink grapefruit, nectarine, ripe clementine. $3.50
Ritual Coffee, San Francisco CA

I’m definitely not a coffee expert so I don’t know how they can differentiate all these different flavors that they use to describe each roast. I certainly can’t distingish all of them in my cup. I either like or dislike a coffee right off the bat though, especially when they have a gross sour quality to them. The coffee and espresso at Ritual Coffee has never let me down. Although I can’t taste all the flavor nuances, I can still enjoy their cup of joe.

Los Idolos decaf - Ritual Coffee
Los Idolos decaf coffee. Huila, Colombia. Tastes like: bananas foster, berry fragrance, cherry-chocolate cake. $3

Mmm, this had SO much flavor! The lime and cilantro were a great touch to bring it back to the Asian side of things. I love soft shell crab! 🙂

I usually prefer the smallest oysters, but in this grouping I think the Shigokus were the best tasting. Omg, I’m finally making my way up the raw oyster chain, lol!
