Chinatown duck sliders – Maven

Chinatown duck sliders - Maven
Shiitake mushrooms, Chinese greens, bacon. Bloomspot 4-course chef’s tasting menu with cocktail pairings for two.
Maven, San Francisco CA

These duck sliders were very rich and delicious! They were on toasted buttery poppyseed egg bun which helped soak up all the yummy juices from the pulled duck. The greens (not quite sure what they actually were) were flavorful, almost on the pungent side. The sliders were on the verge of being too salty from all the rich umami flavors, but I’m glad it didn’t go over the edge.

5 Spot cocktail - Maven

5 Spot Cocktail: aged rhum, ginger, lime, maple, Thai basil, five spice.
This cocktail had a lot of flavors going on, but they actually all tasted pretty good together. The lime and basil also helped to freshen everything up.

Kaeng pa-nang - Original Thai Cuisine
Panang curry with beef. Rich, strong, zesty with a touch of coconut milk, peppers, peas, carrots, zucchini, basil leaves and kaffir lime leaves. $13
Original Thai Cuisine, Kailua-Kona HI

This had a lot of great flavor and you can choose the spiciness level. Of course I asked for “Thai hot”! The beef was a little tough and chewy though.

Green curry scallops – Zadin

Green curry scallops - Zadin
Seared sea scallops served on a bed of spinach noodles in a spicy galangal coconut green curry sauce. Toppped with green papaya, zucchini, and fried basil. $20
Zadin, San Francisco CA

This was a weird dish, and I’m not sure it was a successful one. The spinach noodles and green curry sauce didn’t taste amazing together, and the seared scallops just seemed like an afterthought.

Heirloom tomato and fresh mozzarella salad - Lark Creek Grill
Mmm, I love heirloom tomatoes! This was actually a really great dish from an airport restaurant, but everything is better at T2 at SFO. They had a great tomato variety in the dish too. Noms!

Bruscetta – Briscola

Bruscetta - Briscola
Fresh tomato, basil, balsamic vinaigrette reduction, olive oil. $6
Briscola, Reno NV

High end my ass! This restaurant was a joke, and the food was marginal at best. The tomatoes were over ripe and over dressed. The bread was old and so dry that they disintegrated in your mouth upon contact. Gross!

I didn’t know it at the time, but this was going to be one of the best meals we had in Reno. Now I don’t wanna talk smack about Thai Lotus because their food was decent, but that’s just really sad for Reno!

This has been one of their more simple daily pizzas, but it was still delicious! They always use good quality ingredients which makes the difference.

Beef panang curry - Pad Thai Restaurant
Panang curry is probably my favorite type of Thai curry. I love that Pad Thai will actually add some real heat to their dishes when you request them “spicy”. Mmm!
