Caramelized coconut, pineapple, kaffir lime. $17 1760, San Francisco CA
I think that this dish was pretty to look at, but it didn’t taste very good. I don’t think that all the tropical flavors really accentuated the lobster, and the sticky white sauce on the bottom was just weird and had a off-putting texture. I couldn’t even recognize some of the ingredients and was left wondering what exactly went wrong.
Cheese bites with sweet jelly, micro basil. Complimentary
Wow, I really liked this dish! Mission Chinese Food is always updating their menu (well, at least their online to-go menu that I order from) and some dishes are more successful that others. Boom, beef cheek a l’orange was da bomb, lol! The cheeks were rich and juicy and the sauce was delicious. The coating could have been crispier, but I think it got soggy during the delivery time. This would kick ass straight from the kitchen!
With pistachio streusel, kaffir lime meringue, citrus wedges, coconut-shiso sorbet, micro Thai basil. New Year four-course tasting menu $80 RN74, San Francisco
I enjoyed this dessert very much. It was very different and fresh tasting. I think my favorite components were the kaffir lime meringues and the cremeaux. It was mostly citrus flavors but the pistachio streusel helped to neutralize the acidity. I’m still on the fence about the coconut-shiso sorbet. Maybe that was a little too out there for me. Perhaps the flavor wasn’t intense enough so it faded into the background.
