Renzo special sandwich – Molinari Delicatessen

Renzo special sandwich - Molinari Delicatessen
Prosciutto, coppa, fresh mozzarella, and sun dried tomato. $9.75
Molinari Delicatessen, San Francisco CA

Ew, I was not a fan! The prosciutto had so much fat and tough connective tissue that I couldn’t even gnaw through the sandwich! I had to keep spitting out balls of fat that I couldn’t eat, and lord knows that I can usually chew through anything. The meats were subpar and the bread wasn’t even fresh. The sundried toamtoes also had a weird aftertaste. This was a total letdown!

Wild mushroom and gorgonzola pizza – The Tropicale

Wild mushroom and gorgonzola pizza - The Tropicale
Roasted garlic, diced tomatoes and fresh thyme. $13
The Tropicale, Palm Springs CA

The flavor combinations in this pizza were to die for! The wild mushrooms were earthy and the gorgonzola was sharp and pungent. The roasted tomatoes and garlic were delicious and the crust was pretty good too. I generally prefer a thinner, more airy crust but this thicker crust was needed to handle all those great toppings.

Turkey burger – Escena Lounge & Grill

Turkey burger - Escena Lounge & Grill
Ground turkey, swiss cheese, avocado, lettuce, tomato, onions, pickle, secret sauce on a Kaiser roll, side salad. $15
Escena Lounge & Grill, Palm Springs CA

I love Escena. The setting is gorgeous, the service is wonderful, and it’s a great value. This turkey sandwich was pretty large and they have a lot of add-on options to personalize it to your taste.

Pollo alla diavola – Alicante

Pollo alla diavola - Alicante
Macadamia crusted chicken scaloppini, spicy tomato sauce, Spanish achovies, patatas bravas. $22 (apparently)
Alicante, Palm Springs CA

OK, this was LAME! We actually had ordered the veal marsala (and were charged for the veal marsala), but we were dining with friends and had a lot of food so by the time our entrees came around, we just went with the flow. The pollo alla diavola dish was decent, but I’m kinda mad that they still charged us for the veal which was $4 more. I don’t have much patience for dishonesty or carelessness.

Veal and ricotta meatballs – Alicante

Veal and ricotta meatballs - Alicante
Spaghetti, tomato, parmigiano-reggiano cheese, basil. Half order $8
Alicante, Palm Springs CA

A half order only got you one meatball which was kinda lame, but the singular meatball was tasty and tender. Still, it’s all pasta and the meatball just looked lonely so I don’t think I’d order this again.

Pesto chicken pizza – Alicante

Pesto chicken pizza - Alicante
Free-range chicken, pesto, sundried tomato, feta, mozzarella on a gluten-free crust. $13
Alicante, Palm Springs CA

This pizza was pretty good, but I wasn’t sold on the gluten-free crust. It had a weird, hard texture that didn’t sit well with me. It didn’t have that airy, elastic quality that’s SO fulfilling about normal pizza crusts. I sometimes try to eat healthy, but I’ll probably stick to gluten-full pizza crusts, hehe.

Sauteed spicy lime-drizzled shrimp – Alicante

Sauteed spicy lime-drizzled shrimp - Alicante
Garlic, cherry tomato, chilies. $6
Alicante, Palm Springs CA

This dish was light and refreshing, but I guess I was wanting something more rich like a traditional gambas al ajillo. There was more citrus in this preparation than garlic and butter. It was still pretty tasty, but not what I was craving.

Pan seared Alaskan halibut – Jardiniere

Pan seared Alaskan halibut - Jardiniere
Avocado, cherry tomato, basil. Tasting menu $140
Jardiniere, San Francisco CA

Mmm, another fabulous dish from Jardiniere. The halibut was cooked perfectly; it had a nice crust on the outside and the inside was soft and pillowy. The accompanying broth had so much flavor, and the avocado was a nice change of pace.

Caesar “versione moderna” salad – Alicante

Caesar versione moderna salad - Alicante
Baby romaine leaves, roasted garlic dressing, cherry tomatoes, croutons, white anchovies, grana padano. $10
Alicante, Palm Springs CA

I enjoyed that this salad wasn’t tossed and that you could mixed the ingredients yourself as you liked. The dressing was on the tart side though, but I really liked the whole white anchovies.

Sliced baguette - Alicante

Mexican pizza – Taco Bell

Mexican pizza - Taco Bell
Two crispy pizza shells filled with seasoned beef, hearty beans and then topped with pizza sauce, a three cheese blend melted to perfection, and topped with diced ripe tomatoes. 550 calories, 31g fat
Taco Bell, Palm Springs CA

It’s that time again when I end up at Taco Bell late at night to have a “fourth meal” (which in my case is usually a seventh meal, lol)! I know that you all have fast food cravings every now and then, so don’t judge. 😉

Bialy and local smoked salmon – Wise Sons Jewish Delicatessen

Bialy and local smoked salmon - Wise Sons Jewish Delicatessen
With Sierra Nevada cream cheese, tomato, red onions and capers, pickle. Closed-faced $9
Wise Sons Jewish Delicatessen, San Francisco CA

I really liked this smoked salmon bialy. The beer cream cheese had great flavor and wasn’t as heavy as normal cream cheese. The salmon also seemed lighter and fresher. Overall, it was a great way to start the day.
