Little gem lettuce salad – Incanto

Little gem lettuce salad - Incanto
With lemon-anchovy vinaigrette.
Incanto, San Francisco CA

Sad. This was probably one of the saddest salads I’ve seen in a while. When I chose it, I wasn’t expected a bunch of limp butter lettuce leaves drenched in caesar dressing. Everyone at our table who ordered this asked for some grated parmesan to at least add some texture. This was sad.

Pickled egg and anchovy – Roxy’s Cafe

Pickled egg and anchovy - Roxy's Cafe
Shishito pepper, bulgur wheat, sprouts. 10-course chef’s tasting menu $75
Roxy’s Cafe, San Francisco CA

Mmm, I love pickled food items! I really enjoyed all the flavors in this dish. The bulgur wheat was a little hard to chew, but I liked that its mellow flavor helped to tone down the acidity of the pickled egg and anchovy. And of course you all know that I love shishito peppers! I’m not quite sure what the pale condiment was because it had a very subtle taste that I couldn’t figure out. This dish was beautiful and tasty!

Jardin du Luxembourg. I really loved the combination of flowers that they used throughout the gardens. They were an eclectic mix of unrelated plant families, but they looked beautifully together in both form and color!

Pollo alla diavola – Alicante

Pollo alla diavola - Alicante
Macadamia crusted chicken scaloppini, spicy tomato sauce, Spanish achovies, patatas bravas. $22 (apparently)
Alicante, Palm Springs CA

OK, this was LAME! We actually had ordered the veal marsala (and were charged for the veal marsala), but we were dining with friends and had a lot of food so by the time our entrees came around, we just went with the flow. The pollo alla diavola dish was decent, but I’m kinda mad that they still charged us for the veal which was $4 more. I don’t have much patience for dishonesty or carelessness.

Caesar “versione moderna” salad – Alicante

Caesar versione moderna salad - Alicante

I enjoyed that this salad wasn’t tossed and that you could mixed the ingredients yourself as you liked. The dressing was on the tart side though, but I really liked the whole white anchovies.

Cornmeal fried local sardines – Starbelly

Cornmeal fried local sardines - Starbelly
Arugula, cherry tomato and anchovy remoulade. $10
Starbelly, San Francisco CA

These sardines had really good flavor, but they were greasy! Ew. You get two decent pieces, but they also put SO much anchovy remoulade on the plate that it makes the sardines look inadequate. The remoulade was delicious, but the amount was excessive.
