Camarones a la diabla – Firefly

Camarones a la diabla - Firefly
Shrimp in a spicy chile sauce with grilled bread. $10

Camarones a la diabla - Firefly
Omg, this tasted just like sweet and sour shrimp! Ok, I’ll admit that I actually liked this dish because, well, I love sweet and sour anything but it wasn’t very Spanish. This could have been served at a Chinese restaurant and I wouldn’t be able to differentiate the flavor profiles. And where was the heat?!

Thrice cooked bacon – Mission Chinese Food

Glutinous rice cakes, bitter melon, tofu skin, scallion, onion, black bean, chili oil. $11

I really enjoy the flavor of this, but I will say that the rice cakes can end up with a slimy texture. The tofu skins are a great addition for texture and flavor as are the bitter melons. Noms!

Exiting 16th Street Bart Station. Not the cleanest station, but I do like the artwork around the entrance.

Brunch plate 3 – Wicked Spoon Buffet

Brunch plate 3 - Wicked Spoon Buffet
Roasted beet salad with citrus and goat cheese, home made Italian sausage, goat cheese ravioli with fried sage. Brunch buffet $22
Wicked Spoon Buffet, Las Vegas NV

This was definitely a heavy plate! The beet salad was delicious and the citrus wedges helped to lighten things up. The Italian sausage tasted great, but omg, it was super fatty. The ravioli wasn’t as tasty as it looked. It was too soft and mushy and drowning in butter.

Boquerones – Firefly

Boquerones - Firefly
Spanish white anchovies on toasts with roast red pepper, yellow pepper vin, avocado, basil chiffonade, olive oil. $5.50
Firefly, Las Vegas NV

Boquerones - Firefly
Mmm, I love white anchovies! They are SO flavorful and Firefly does a great job topping them with even more delicious ingredients. I just wish the bread was a little more toasted – these were limp and soggy.

Shanghainese chow mein – Mission Chinese Food

Shanghainese chow mein - Mission Chinese Food
Pulled pork trotter, rock shrimp, pickled mustard greens, napa cabbage, green onion, chow mein noodles. $12
Mission Chinese Food, San Francisco

Another yummy dish from MCF! I love the texture of the chow mein noodles and the combination of pork trotter and rock shrimp. It’s like surf and turf noodles. Very flavorful!

Brunch plate 2 - Wicked Spoon Buffet
Smoked salmon (lox), cucumber, tomatoes, capers, baguette with whipped cream cheese, olives, cornichons, ham, salami. Brunch buffet $22
Wicked Spoon Buffet, Las Vegas NV

I needed a little break from the heavier items so I got a plate with lox and charcuterie to break things up. Salty, cured, and fatty = a happy me!

Brunch plate 1 – Wicked Spoon Buffet

Untitled
Wicked fried chicken, grilled Korean beef spare rib, spicy orange garlic chicken. Brunch buffet $22
Wicked Spoon Buffet, Las Vegas NV

Twenty two bucks, heck yeah! And it includes a mimosa or bloody mary. Wicked Spoon is definitely one of the nicer buffets on The Strip. They have a good selection and I like how some of the dish come pre-portioned. The fried chicken was good, and the spare ribs was flavorful but tough. The orange garlic chicken wasn’t spicy and the breading was a little mushy but it still tasted good.
