Seared mozzarella – Cozina

Seared mozzarella - Cozina
With organic tomato carpaccio, topped with grilled shiitake with dressed in light truffle oil vinaigrette. 480 PHP
Cozina, Boracay PHILIPPINES

This was pretty tasty and I loved the shiitake mushrooms on top. My only critique would be that they should have served this with some delicious, crusty bread to spread the mozzarella on and to mop up the yummy vinaigrette.

Cheeseburger deluxe value meal – McDonald’s

Cheeseburger deluxe - McDonald's
Beef patty, cheese, lettuce, tomato, special mayo. Served with French fries and a drink. 149 PHP
McDonald’s, Boracay PHILIPPINES

OK, this is the last McDonald’s pic for a while, lol! Promise. This cheeseburger was pretty standard and very similar to those in the US. It did it’s job and kept us going between “real” meals. 🙂

Brass Monkey pizza – Little Star Pizza

Brass Monkey pizza - Little Star Pizza
Sausage, spinach blended with ricotta and feta, mushroom, onion and garlic on a deep dish cornmeal crust.  Large $27.50
Little Star Pizza, San Francisco CA

Brass Monkey pizza - Little Star Pizza
Omg, this pizza is amazing! It’s not on the regular menu, but it’s just the Little Star pizza with sausage added and the servers know it by name. And the result is heaven! Paying almost thirty bucks for a pizza may seem like a lot, but this pie can last me for multiple meals. I find that each deep dish slice is super filling and it’s great to know that there’s some for later. I always reheat individual slices in the oven and they’re perfect as leftovers. 🙂

Christina’s, Boracay PHILIPPINES

Mmm, I love getting served poolside. You don’t have to get up or expend and energy, AHHHH! The East Wing pool had menus from Chistina’s that you could order from so we got an afternoon snack to tide us over before dinner. This is why I have to work out every day, lol! (When I’m not on vacation.)

Bucatini with meatballs – Mozzeria

Bucatini with meatballs - Mozzeria
Veal-pork meatball, pomodoro, grana padano. Pre fixe menu
Mozzeria, San Francisco CA

Finally, something that was delicious at Mozzeria! I loved the texture of the pasta. It had a nice bite and was beautifully made. The meatballs were nice and big, and super juicy and flavorful. Unlike the other things I’ve posted from here, I’d eat this again.

Cheeseburger – Sisters Cafe

Cheeseburger - Sisters Cafe
Minced beef burger with shredded cheese, onion, lettuce, and tomato. Served with French fries. 99,000 VND
Sisters Cafe, Ho Chi Minh City VIETNAM

We were very good, and this was the only hamburger we had during our entire Ho Chi Minh trip and we even waited til the final day. Yay! It was decent, but they could’ve melted the cheese a bit. The fries were pretty good though.

Burrata cheese – Mozzeria

Burrata cheese - Mozzeria
Cherry tomato, aged balsamic vinegar, basil oil, served with crostoli (fried dough with sugar). Pre fixe menu
Mozzeria, San Francisco CA

Ugh, what a disappointment! I love burrata, but this version had none of the characteristics that make the cheese so lovely. I don’t know if they make this in-house, but it wasn’t very good. This burrata was hard and chewy like a plain mozzarella, not soft and super creamy as it should have been. You could cut through this sad disc and it would hold its form without oozing out onto the plate. This made me really sad! 😦

Assorted salad with garlic and vinegar – Nha Hang Ngon

Assorted salad with garlic and vinegar - Nha Hang Ngon
Xa lach tron dau dam. With cucumber, tomato, onion, cilantro, and mayonnaise. 50,000 VND
Nha Hang Ngon, Ho Chi Minh City VIETNAM

Ugh, what is up with all that mayo on this salad – I don’t get it! You find loads of mayonnaise in Japanese salads but I didn’t know they put it on Vietnamese salads too. It was SO gross! I’m not a big fan of globs and globs of unincorporated mayonnaise so I didn’t like this salad very much. I tried eating around it, but it kept getting everywhere.

Bbq pork – Hai Lua Food Countryside

Bbq pork - Hai Lua Food Countryside
Served with rice, tomato, carrot, cucumber, and sweet chili fish sauce. 62,000 VND
Hai Lua Food Countryside, Ho Chi Minh City VIETNAM

I’ve eaten a lot of Vietnamese grilled pork in my life and I’ll have to say that this was one of the best I’ve had. The pork was juicy and had SO much flavor, but wasn’t too salty like others I’ve tried. Noms!

San Francisco (SFO) to Manila (MNL), Philippine Airlines

I’m sure most people wouldn’t think of chicken adobo as a breakfast meal item, but it is, lol! I don’t think there’s much difference in the kinds of foods that Filipinos eat for different meals. I’m all for it!

Farmers ham sandwich – Cafe France

Farmers ham sandwich - Cafe France
With brie cheese, lettuce, tomato, and raspberry jam on wheat bread. 250 PHP
Cafe France, Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL)

This sandwich was a bit different. I had mixed feelings about the raspberry jam. One the one hand, I liked the fruity component, but I also thought that it was maybe too sweet for the sandwich. The balance was off.

Scrambled eggs and chicken sausage – Philippine Airlines

Scrambled eggs and chicken sausage - Philippine Airlines
With bacon, hash browns, sauteed mushrooms, tomato, fruit, sweet roll, dinner roll. Complimentary
San Francisco (SFO) to Manila (MNL), Philippine Airlines

Ugh, I was NOT liking this breakfast. The bacon was OK because it’s really hard to mess up bacon, but everything else was a little off. I’ve never been a fan of Asian sausages because of their soft squishy texture so that was already a point off. The eggs weren’t very good either, even by airplane food standards. The sweet rolls was pretty tasty though.
