Krua’s zesty beef – Krua Thai

Krua's zesty beef Krua Thai

Marinated beef lightly sauteed with onions, mushrooms, bell peppers, and jalapenos in a hot chili sauce. $12
Krua Thai, San Francisco

Another great dish from Krua Thai!  This dish was packed with lots of flavor.  The sauce was delicious and the beef was nice and tender.  I love that all the vegetables and even the beef are cut into large, hearty pieces.  Definitely use the rice to soak up all that delicious sauce!

Curry samosas – Krua Thai

Curry samosas Krua Thai

Filled with minced chicken, corn, onions, potatoes, and yellow curry powder coated with wheat flour. Served with sweet and sour sauce. Krua appetizer sampler, $11
Krua Thai, San Francisco

These didn’t have a very strong curry flavor which was a little disappointing, but I loved the texture of them.  I wish the appetizer sampler came with more than just two samosas!  I know, I’m a pig.  Hehe!

Singha beer Krua Thai

Singha beer. $5

Classic Philly cheesesteak – Phat Philly

Classic Philly cheesesteak Phat Philly

Regular 7″ cheesesteak made with Masami Farms American kobe beef with fried onions, white American cheese, and hot peppers on an Amoroso roll.  $6.95
Phat Philly, San Francisco

I love the cheesesteaks at Phat Philly.  They use amazing ingredients and even ship the Amoroso rolls from Philadelphia!  Now that’s the way to make a cheesesteak!  The beef is so tender and perfectly seasoned.  They have a toppings bar so I always add some hot peppers to my sandwich.  They add a little bite and extra flavor.  Noms!

McRib – McDonald’s

McRib McDonald's

Processed pork and filler in the shape of “ribs” with a tangy bbq sauce, topped with pickles and onions.
McDonald’s, South San Francisco

Every time the McRib comes back on the menu at McDonald’s for a limited time, I’m somehow compelled to buy one knowing full well that it’s gonna suck!  And true to my expectations, this weird creation tasted like crap.  I remember loving these as a kid.  Perhaps they’ve changed recipes or perhaps my tastes have changed that drastically, but I still find myself buying one every time in a futile attempt to taste a little bit of my childhood.  😦

Cheeseburger – In-N-Out Burger

Cheeseburger In-N-Out Burger

100% pure beef patty, lettuce, tomato, onion, spread, one slice of American cheese on a freshly baked bun. $2.40
In-N-Out Burger, Kettleman City CA

David orders the regular cheeseburger with onions.  I think it’s boring without “animal style”, but he’s more health conscious than I am.  I don’t think he’d even go to In-N-Out unless I insisted on it during our road trips.   Hehe!

Cheeseburger animal style – In-N-Out Burger

Cheeseburger animal style In-N-Out Burger

100% pure beef patty, lettuce, tomato, spread, one slice of American cheese on a freshly baked bun.  Animal style with extra spread, pickles, and grilled onions. $2.40
In-N-Out Burger, Kettleman City CA

Lemme just say that I periodically have In-N-Out cravings! It’s a treat for me because the ones in the Bay Area aren’t easily accessible without a car (beside the super busy and touristy one in Fisherman’s Wharf). So when a road trip comes along and there’s an In-N-Out Burger along the way, you best believe I’m making a stop. Lately I’ve been ordering a cheeseburger animal style because I feel guilty ordering a double-double.  Sad.  It doesn’t matter though because all of the burgers are frickin’ DELICIOUS!!!

Farmerbrown burger – Farmerbrown

Farmerbrown burger

1/2 pound of house ground chuck with garlic aioli and onions on a brioche roll, served with chips. $10 for happy hour, $1 extra for cheddar cheese
Farmerbrown, San Francisco

Wow, this was absolutely delicious!  Yet another one of those burgers that practically melts in your mouth.  Part of this is the super tender patty, and the other part is from the super soft and fluffy brioche bun.  I’m glad I got opted for the cheddar cheese add-on.  The fries were also very good.

Chips with guacamole and salsa – The Ramp

Chips with guacamole and salsa The Ramp

Every part of this appetizer probably came out of either a can or bag, but I still liked it and definitely ate more than my share.  There’s just something about chips with salsa and guacamole that keeps you eating regardless of the quality.  Or maybe I’m just a pig!  Either way, I enjoyed these and would order them again in a quick second.  You definitely get lots of it!  $8
The Ramp, San Francisco

Mu shu chicken – Xiao Long Bao Kitchen

Mu shu chicken Xiao Long Bao Kitchen

Large pile of shredded chicken, napa cabbage, onions, carrots, green onions, black fungus, and scrambled eggs.  Served with mu shu pancakes.  These are always fun to eat because you get to make yummy Chinese burritos of sorts.  The hoisin (or plum sauce) tastes great with the mildly flavored filling. $7.95
Xiao Long Bao Kitchen, South San Francisco

Beef brisket platter – Smokin’ Warehouse Barbecue

Beef brisket platter Smokin' Warehouse Barbecue

Slowly smoked and cooked for 10 hours, topped with their house BBQ sauce. Ordered with potato salad, steak chili with onions and cheese, and cornbread. $11.95
Smokin’ Warehouse Barbecue, San Francisco

This brisket was cooked for 10 hours, and it tasted like it!  The beef was SO tender and flavorful.  I’m not a big potato salad fan, but this tasted pretty good.  The chili was rich and tasty as well.

Caramelized catfish claypot – The Slanted Door

Caramelized catfish claypot The Slanted Door

Served with cilantro, ginger, thai chilies, and onions.  $15
The Slanted Door, San Francisco

This was my absolute favorite dish at The Slanted Door!  I remember ordering this back in the day when the restaurant was still in its small space on Valencia Street.  I loved it then and I still love it today.  It has such a deep, rich flavor and the catfish is so tender and fall-apart flakey.  The sauce is SO amazing with the caramelized onions.  The catfish slices do have a lot of bones in them so be careful!  I’m used to fish bones, and I actually like that they’re there because they add more flavor to the dish.  Beautiful and delicious!!!

The Little Star – Little Star Pizza

The Little Star Pizza

Spinach blended with ricotta and feta, mushroom, onion and garlic on a deep dish cornmeal crust.  $24 for large 12″
Little Star Pizza, San Francisco

This is my first Little Star Pizza blog entry, but I’ve been eating at this place and ordering pick-ups for a while!  I love their pizzas!  They are still my favorite deep dish pizza in The City.  I love their thick, buttery cornmeal crust.  YUM!  All their toppings always taste fresh and flavorful, and I enjoy their chunky tomato sauce.  I’m not a big eater so one slice is usually enough for a meal, they’re kinda large.

The Little Star Pizza

I cheated and added anchovies to half the pizza. That’s the Filipino in me, lol!
