Sand-trap melt - Escena Lounge & Grill
Fresh made white meat chicken salad served on wheat bread with lettuce, tomato, and cheddar cheese. Side of fresh fruit and a kosher pickle. $11
Escena Lounge & Grill, Palm Springs CA

Wow, this chicken melt was SO good! I think the caramelized onions in the melt totally put it over the top. I was also happy with all the fruit they put on the plate.

Omg, these were frickin’ amazing!

Beef enchirito – Taco Bell

Beef enchirito - Taco Bell
A warm, soft flour tortilla wrapped around seasoned beef, hearty beans, diced onion, real cheddar cheese, and tangy red sauce. 360 calories, 17g fat
Taco Bell, Palm Springs CA

The enchirito is another one of my favorite Taco Bell items probably because it’s SO saucey and cheesy! It goes down so easily during that late night “fourthmeal”, lol!

Entrees – AQ Restaurant

Guinea hen - AQ Restaurant
Guinea Hen: sweet potato, cereals and salted persimmon butter. $26
AQ Restaurant, San Francisco CA

I’m sorry, but neither of these entrees were very memorable. There was a lot of stuff on each plate but it all lacked harmony and balance. The individual components were nicely prepared, but I wasn’t excited by any of it. Lame…

Duo of beef - AQ Restaurant
Duo of Beef: black garlic, broccoli with burnt ends and cheddar. $34

Huevos rancheros – Squat & Gobble

Huevos rancheros - Squat & Gobble
Two eggs over easy, cheddar cheese and corn tortillas topped with spicy ranchero sauce and served with black beans and jalapeno sour cream. $9.75
Squat & Gobble, San Francisco CA

There’s something about a large plate of huevos rancheros that just makes my morning! The version at Squat & Gobble isn’t very authentic but it tastes great. The service is always very friendly here and the people watching makes me smile.

Coffee - Squat & Gobble
Coffee.

California crepe – Crepevine

California crepe - Crepevine
Savory crepe with avocado, bell peppers, tomatoes, sauteed onions and cheddar topped with salsa fresca and sour cream and spicy chipotle on the side. Served with house potatoes and mixed greens with vinaigrette. $9.50
Crepevine, San Francisco CA

To me, these crepe places tend to be cookie-cutter and predictable which is both a good and bad thing. You always know what to expect, but nothing is ever new and interesting. That’s why quality is the deciding factor when comparing these establishment. Crepevine is pretty good. The food is yummy and the ingredients are of nice quality.

Bacon egg breakfast sandwich – Firehouse Coffee

Bacon egg breakfast sandwich - Firehouse Coffee
With cheddar cheese on ciabatta. $3.99
Firehouse Coffee, Seattle WA

This is a cute neighborhood coffee shop on Market Street in Ballard. I like how they use very homey mugs and plates. The sandwich was pretty good and they did a great job heating it up.

Latte - Firehouse Coffee

8 oz latte. $2.80

Home corned beef hash – Red Cafe

Home corned beef hash - Red Cafe
Fresh mushrooms, onion, tomato, two poached eggs, and cheddar cheese. Served with hash browns and wheat toast. $8.25
Red Cafe, San Francisco CA

This small, busy neighborhood diner in the Mission serves delicious breakfast standards at very reasonable prices. The service is friendly and quick, but be prepared to wait unless you can squeeze yourself into the counter since this place is a popular breakfast joint. My food was no-frills, straight forward, and tasty.

Wheat toast - Red Cafe
Wheat toast with assorted jellies.

Chard and chipotle pizza – Arizmendi Bakery

Chard and chipotle pizza - Arizmendi Bakery
With red onions and cheddar cheese. $2.50 per slice
Arizmendi Bakery, San Francisco CA

I love Arizmendi’s daily pizzas! This was a new combination for me and I really enjoyed it. The chard and chipotle flavors were lovely and I always enjoy the sourdough crust. The extra sliver that they throw in is always much appreciated!

Fried egg sandwich – Universal Cafe

Fried egg sandwich - Universal Cafe
House-made sourdough English muffin, house-made porchetta, spicy tomato confit, yellow cheddar, mixed greens salad. $14.50
Universal Cafe, San Francisco CA

When the side salad is the best part of your meal, there’s something wrong. The housemade English muffin was dense, doughy and undercooked, the tomato confit was on the sour side, and the porchetta was too fatty and extremely difficult to chew.

Sugar salt and pepper - Universal Cafe
Sugar, salt and pepper.
