Spicy seafood dumplings – M.Y. China

Spicy seafood dumplings - M.Y. China
Scallops, shrimp, spinach wrapper. $9
M.Y. China, San Francisco CA

This dish was SO mediocre that I don’t even remember ordering it. That’s not surprising because the food runners tried to drop off several dishes that we didn’t order. So perhaps we really didn’t order this in the first place. At least they were consistent with their lameness. Get a clue!

Mac and cheese – Citizen’s Band

Mac and cheese - Citizen's Band
Baked macaroni and fontina, cheddar fonduta, and onion rings. $8
Citizen’s Band, San Francisco CA

Meh… Being on the 7X7 list, I was expecting to be blown away by this dish, but this was a bit of a disappointment. The onion rings where very large, but really limp and soggy. And the mac and cheese was too hard and congealed. The cheddar fonduta did little to help add much needed moisture to the dry block of mac and cheese. Too bad…

Almond croissant – Thorough Bread and Pastry

Almond croissant - Thorough Bread and Pastry
With almond cream, almond slivers and powdered sugar. $2.50
Thorough Bread and Pastry, San Francisco CA

Mmm, this was REALLY tasty! I loved the buttery, super flaky crust and the generous slathers of almond cream. A great decadent weekend treat!

CA state bird with provisions – State Bird Provisions

CA state bird with provisions - State Bird Provisions
Fried quail half with shaved cheese. $8
State Bird Provisions, San Francisco CA

Mmm, this was really good but pretty small. I know it’s a quail, but it left me wanting more of this great dish. Next time we’re doubling our order!

The Crispy Tofu banh mi – Dinosaurs

The Crispy Tofu banh mi - Dinosaurs
Shredded fried tofu, rice noodles, and taro with Vegenaise, pickled carrot and daikon radishes, cilantro, cucumber, jalapeno, and mayo on a French baguette. $4.75
Dinosaurs, San Francisco CA

Hmm, this was fun to eat but it wasn’t really my kind of banh mi. I definitely prefer the more meaty variety. The tofu shreds were also really small so it didn’t seem substantial enough for me.

Lettuce wraps – Escena Lounge & Grill

Lettuce wraps - Escena Lounge & Grill
Grilled chicken cooked in ginger, served with sweet chili sauce. $12
Escena Lounge & Grill, Palm Springs CA

This was probably the most basic and boring chicken lettuce wraps I’ve ever ordered. The chicken had that squishy texture that reminds me of the frozen pre-cooked variety found at grocery stores. Yuck!

Tacos al pastor – Chilango

Tacos al pastor - Chilango
Two corn tortillas filled with marinated pork, cilantro and onion. Served with caramelized onions, salsa, and rice and beans. $7
Chilango, San Francisco CA

Yuck, I did not enjoy this! The al pastor marinade the used was way different from anything I’ve tasted before. It was way too vinegary and super strong tasting. Even drenching the tacos in salsa didn’t really help. I don’t think I’ll ever order this from Chilango again.

Hawaiian slice – Nizario’s Pizza

Hawaiian slice - Nizario's Pizza
Canadian bacon and pineapple. $4
Nizario’s Pizza, San Francisco CA

Growing up, Hawaiian pizza was always my favorite! I loved the combination of the salty Canadian bacon and the sweet pineapple. We didn’t have fancy pizzerias in the small town where I grew up so I wasn’t aware of anything better, hehe. I still love me some Hawaiian pizza though!

Pan roasted U-10 scallops – Workshop Kitchen + Bar

Pan roasted U-10 scallops - Workshop Kitchen + Bar
Green apple emulsion, braised leeks, hazelnuts. With extra scallop $40
Workshop Kitchen + Bar, Palm Springs CA

Mmm, this was SO delicious! The green apple emulsion went perfectly with the scallops. The whole dish tasted fresh and new. BUT I think $40 is pretty steep even with an extra scallop added. This restaurant was good overall, but they’re on the border of being overpriced. Just sayin’.

Wood-charred brussels sprouts - Workshop Kitchen + Bar
