Poached eggs and braised greens – Outerlands

Project 365: Day 75

Today we arrived in St. Georges, Grenada. We had a large breakfast at the Oceanview Cafe, then went ashore to explore the area adjacent to the cruise ship. We first walked into town to explore some of the markets, but the people were SUPER pushy trying to sell you spices and get into their cabs, so we turned around and walked up the hill to Fort George. After entering and looking around the mostly destroyed police department, we walked down the other side of the hill to explore The Crenage. We had a lovely lunch at BB’s Crabback Restaurant before surviving the Melville Street tunnel back to the cruise ship. We laid out on the pool deck, had food at the AquaSpa Cafe, ate an fun and inventive dinner at Qsine Restaurant, saw the Courtney Act perfromance, then finished it off at the Equinox Rising Dance Party.

Poached eggs and braised greens Outerlands

With yellow corn grits. $9
Outerlands, San Francisco

This was good, but standard. I was hoping that there would be something special to them, but they were straightforward.

Chicken tikka masala – Curry Boyzz

Project 365: Day 74

Today was a relaxing day at sea. I had a small breakfast at the Oceanview Cafe, laid out on the pool deck, then had a larger brunch in the main dining room, played bingo with Miss Richfield 1981 as the host (hilarious!), attended the Military Dog Tag T-Dance Party, had an afternoon meal, a large dinner in the main dining room, then danced the night away at the MardiGlo Party.

Chicken tikka masala Curry Boyzz

Boneless chicken in curry sauce. $6.99
Curry Boyzz, San Francisco

I love chicken tikka masala! You don’t get a lot of chicken in this dish, but you do get a lot of the delicious curry sauce. Mmm, naan and tikka masala sauce equals heaven!

Lamb cholay – Curry Boyzz

Project 365: Day 73

We checked out of our hotel room today, had a great lunch at Toro Salao, and now we’re finally on the Celebrity Summit cruise ship! YAY, I’m SO excited to explore and eat, lol! The ship has been recently renovated so it’s pretty nice. The staff are super friendly and helpful. This will be my second cruise and I’m traveling with 10 friends so it should be a blast! I’ve gotta watch it though because food is available 24 hours a day, and you know how much I love to eat. LOL! Tonight we’re gonna dine in the main dining room, watch the Dame Edna Experience show, then head to the pool deck for the Welcome Dance Party. My vacation has now hit the next level.

Lamb cholay Curry Boyzz

Lamb curry cooked with garbanzo beans, garnished with chopped cilantro. $7.99
Curry Boyzz, San Francisco

I really liked this dish. The curry had a nice spiciness and the lamb was tender. We actually got really full during dinner so we took leftovers home.

Aloo naan – Curry Boyzz

Project 365: Day 72

We had a busy tourist day today. We started with iced coffees and sandwiches at Quatro Sombras, then we walked the Paseo de la Princesa, visited the grounds around El Morro Castle, and walked more streets around Old San Juan. We randomly ran into some friends at our hotel’s casino later that evening. Since they had a rental car, we carpooled to the Sheraton Convention Center to attend the cruise pre-party! We later had dinner at Miro, which was kind of a letdown. Sad…

Garlic naan – Curry Boyzz

Project 365: Day 71

Omg, guess who was in Old San Juan today on the campaign trail? Rick Santorum! Yup! We were waiting for a lunch restaurant to open so we went to hang out at a random plaza to kill time. Then quite suddenly, a procession began and Rick Santorum and his family were walking through the crowd shaking hands. He shook my hand and winked at me, lol! I don’t even like the guy but it was easy to get caught up in the hoopla. I snapped over a dozen pics (see one below, hehe). We later saw him eating lunch outside at a nearby restaurant. It was hard to miss him since there were plenty of bodyguards in black suits everyhwere.

Lunch was better today at St. Germain Bistro and so were drinks at Restaurante Triana, but snacks/drinks at the Sheraton Old San Juan and dinner at Dragonfly were a bust!

Shishito peppers robata – Hecho

Project 365: Day 70

This has been a horrible day so far! Our red-eye flight out of SFO was delayed last night because of the rain so we would have missed our IAD connection to San Juan. We were able to get on an earlier flight out of SFO and made our connection, but our bags didn’t make it. The baggage claim guy at the SJU airport was SO lame and annoying. So now we probably won’t have clothes to change into until tomorrow.

We’ve also had a horrible dining experience in San Juan already. Our cab driver suggested Raices Restaurant near our hotel to have lunch and it was absolutely horrible. This place was a cheesy tourist trap if I’ve ever seen one! The food was disgusting and the over priced drinks were weak and gross tasting. I hope the dining improves during our stay!

Despite all that, San Juan is beautiful and the weather has been great!

Shishito peppers robata Hecho

1 skewer of grilled peppers with radish garnish. $4
Hecho, San Francisco

This was another disappointment. The peppers were barely grilled and weren’t very warm.

Soft shell crab roll – Hecho

Project 365: Day 68

Work is going by SO slowly! I still haven’t packed anything for my trip yet but I have finished all my laundry so choosing outfits should be relatively easy. I also need to make sure that all my bills are paid so I don’t miss any payments while I’m gone. Ho hum.

Soft shell crab roll Hecho

Deep fried soft shell crab and avocado. $9
Hecho, San Francisco

I loved how large this roll was, but on the other hand there was only 6 pieces. You can’t go wrong with soft shell crab though!

Hecho roll – Hecho

Project 365: Day 67

I had to work half a day this morning and the anticipation for my Caribbean vacation is hitting me hard! After my French Laundry meal last night (I’ll try to get those uploaded asap), I’m not feeling so hot in the body image department. Oh well, not much I can do now. I’m hitting the gym this evening and probably tomorrow night as a final attempt to tone up. Lol!

Hecho roll Hecho

Spicy tuna with albacore and pico de gallo. $16
Hecho, San Francisco

I enjoyed this roll. The fresh salsa on top was a nice surprise. Kind of expensive though.

Walu nigiri – Hecho

Project 365: Day 66

This is the day I went to French Laundry in Yountville. It was an 8:45 dinner reservation so I drove all the way up and had to drive back to the city afterward because I had to work the next morning. My friend has a Per Se connection so we received spectacular service and extra food, heck yeah! We were in and out of the restaurant in 5 hours! Previously, my longest dinner was 4 hours at Mistral Kitchen in Seattle. Dinner was amazing and I can’t wait to go back!

Walu nigiri Hecho

Hawaiian butterfish. $6
Hecho, San Francisco

This was definitely a buttery fish, SO good! I have to say that overall, Hecho is a bit overpriced though.

Edamame Hecho

Edamame, boiled soy beans. $5

Margaritas – Hecho

Project 365: Day 65

So I’ve recently returned from an 11-day trip to Puerto Rico/cruise to the southern Caribbean. I gladly didn’t have internet during the trip, but now I’m completely slammed with a huge backlog of posts that I need to complete. I also couldn’t post anything for Project 365 so this is what I’m gonna do from now on. I won’t be posting a pic from that particular day for my Project 365 posts, but I will continue to use these posts as journal/daily entries. I’ll try to catch up on all my posts, but please be patient.  🙂

7 spice margarita Hecho

7 spice margarita – Don Julio Blanco tequila, cucumber, agave, lime juice, togarashi spice. $12
Hecho, San Francisco

I loved this margarita! It was nice and spicy and so flavorful!

Hecho margarita

Hecho margarita – Partida Reposado tequila, fresh lime and agave nectar. $10
This margarita was a bit boring compared to the 7 spice margarita. There also wasn’t very much tequila so it lacked any kind of punch.

Water Hecho

Cute water glasses.

Carnitas and lengua tacos – El Patron Lonchera

Project 365: Day 64

I had to work in Oakland in the morning today so I stopped by one of the Mexican food trucks in West Oakland for lunch. One of my co-workers suggested El Patron Lonchera because they have tasty tacos and the food hasn’t made him sick yet, lol!

Carnitas and lengua tacos El Patron Mexican Truck

Two carnitas (pork) and two lengua (beef tongue) tacos on corn tortillas topped with red onions and cilantro. Served with pickled carrots, radishes, and jalapenos. Tacos $1.25 each. Diet Coke $1
El Patron Lonchera, Oakland CA

These were pretty good! Both tacos had great flavor and they didn’t get me sick, hehe. The beef tongue was in large chunks (yum) and the carnitas were nicely shredded with a few crispy pieces (double yum). The guy running the food truck doesn’t speak English so you either have to gesture or try and remember your pathetic highschool Spanish grammar!  🙂
