Cast-iron grilled cheese sandwich – Outerlands

Cast-iron grilled cheese sandwich - Outerlands
Brushed with garlic oil. Served with a side of butternut squash soup: berbere spice, ginger, yogurt, sesame butter. $12
Outerlands, San Francisco CA

Meh, I didn’t like this grilled cheese very much. The bread was too thick and super hard. I was afraid that it was gonna cut the inside of my mouth, and it was surprisingly bland. I liked the squash soup more than the sandwich and that’s sad.

Project 365: Day 76

Today we arrived at Bridgetown, Barbados. We decided to have brunch in the main dining room, just Silverfox and me. The food was the same as upstairs in the Oceanview Cafe, but plated more nicely. We then met up with a couple friends to enjoy a taxi tour of the island. Our driver, Angela, was hilarious and described pretty much everything we drove by. We drove north along the beaches then cut inland (east) through a large golf course. We passed by the mansions where Tiger Woods supposedly got married. We searched for green monkies, but there were none to be seen. We then made our way to the Highland Adventure Weather Station after driving through several sugarcane plantations. Afterward, we made our way to St. John’s church. It was cute and interesting to see the grave where someone was buried standing up. We passed by Gun Hill Signal Station on our way back to Bridgetown. We then had lunch and drinks at Waterfront Cafe before walking back to the ship. Had a large snack at the Oceanview Cafe, VIP cocktail party with an hour of free drinks, dinner in the main dining room, Sirens variety show performed by the Celebrity staff, then a late night snack from the Oceanview Cafe.

This was frickin’ delicious and flavorful! I’m sure these patties were super fatty, but that’s probably why they were SO good.

Project 365: Day 75

Today we arrived in St. Georges, Grenada. We had a large breakfast at the Oceanview Cafe, then went ashore to explore the area adjacent to the cruise ship. We first walked into town to explore some of the markets, but the people were SUPER pushy trying to sell you spices and get into their cabs, so we turned around and walked up the hill to Fort George. After entering and looking around the mostly destroyed police department, we walked down the other side of the hill to explore The Crenage. We had a lovely lunch at BB’s Crabback Restaurant before surviving the Melville Street tunnel back to the cruise ship. We laid out on the pool deck, had food at the AquaSpa Cafe, ate an fun and inventive dinner at Qsine Restaurant, saw the Courtney Act perfromance, then finished it off at the Equinox Rising Dance Party.

This was good, but standard. I was hoping that there would be something special to them, but they were straightforward.

Project 365: Day 4

It’s a beautiful, sunny Sunday morning in San Francisco! I’m only slightly hung over from a late-ish night out with Silverfox and friends after a yummy dinner at Hecho and an even later after-bar dinner at Curry Boyzz (ugh!). We trekked it over to the Outer Sunset to try Outerlands, it’s been on my list of restaurant to try. I never really noticed some of the beautiful homes along Lincoln Way before. When we got to the restaurant 10 minutes prior to opening, there was already a throng of people waiting and we got onto the second column on the waiting list. Sadly, we just missed the cut for the first seating, but the tables turned pretty quickly and we were eventually seated outside to enjoy the amazing morning weather – no fog today!

Everything we had was SO good! I think that the quality ingredients made all the difference because the things we ordered were simply prepared. Their levain toast was lovely and the bacon was delicious. The simple salad was also very good – I liked the variety of greens.

The table next to us ordered a dutch pancake and it looked amazing! It came to their table totally puffed up and the size of a football. Once they cut into it, it deflated of course. I’ll have to remember to order that on a return visit.

All done!!!

It’s such a beautiful day today that I’d love to just go to the park and do nothing but relax. I have to hit the gym though and have a productive workout. The nice weather will totally motivate me. Also have to make a grocery store run so I can prepare lunches for the work week. So excited that I have a 4-day work week because because Silverfox and I are driving down to Palm Springs on Friday. F-yeah!!!
