Three-dal wave – Wave Bar & Lounge

Three-dal wave - Wave Bar & Lounge
Loaded potato skins, fried mozzarella, and tangy buffalo wings, served with sour cream, chives and marinara sauce. 420 PHP
Wave Bar & Lounge, Boracay PHILIPPINES

This was pretty good for a fried appetizer plate. The loaded potato skins ended up being bbq potato chips though. Ugh, whatever. Everything tasted great, but the chips were a bit soggy. The service was really friendly and they bring the food out to you on the beach. Lovely!

It took me a while to figure out what “three-dal wave” was referring to. I wasn’t sure if it was a tagalog thing at first, but then realized it was a play on “tidal wave”. Ugh, doesn’t sound very similar, lol!

Cocktails - Wave Bar & Lounge

Mini lumpia – White Moon Bar

Mini lumpia - White Moon Bar
Deep fried lumpia with pork filling and served with sweet chili sauce. 280 PHP
White Moon Bar, Manila PHILIPPINES

These were actually labeled “spring rolls” on the menu which is totally weird since we’re in the Philippines! I think everyone knows what lumpia is. Anyway, these were super thin so they didn’t have much filling. It was like eating rolled up, fried lumpia wrappers. Lame. And the sweet chili sauce was straight from the bottle.

Cocktails – White Moon Bar

Mojito - White Moon Bar
Mojito. 220 PHP
White Moon Bar, Manila PHILIPPINES

Ugh, I was disappointed overall at how badly Manila made cocktails. They were either super weak or super sugary. Now I like to drink, so you better make my cocktails right, Mr. Bartender! White Moon Bar fell into the crappy cocktail category. All the cocktails were a little off. The mojito was probably the most drinkable. The malibu pineapple was too sweet and the electric ice tea was ridiculously awful. We had to send that one back. I asked if they could make the lychee martini on the not-so-sweet side, so their solution was so mix in olive juice! Lychee + olive juice, can you imagine?! LOL, that tasted like crap too! Omg, where can I get a decent cocktail?! :/

Cocktails – S.i. Pub

Cocktails - S.i. Pub
Long Island iced tea and gin and tonic.
S.i. Pub, Ho Chi Minh City VIETNAM

After full days of walking around in the sweltering heat, cold drinks were very much needed to relax and unwind at night. S.i. Pub is actually where we witnessed a street fight break out between two motorcyclists because they got into an accident. It was kinda exciting – I’m not gonna lie, lol!

Beer and cocktails- Cafe Thi

Beer - Cafe Thi
Tiger beer and Saigon beer. I liked all the beers I tried in Vietnam. They were all the on the light side and super easy to drink.
Cafe Thi, Ho Chi Minh City VIETNAM

This bar had some great cover bands play beginning at 10pm! They sang a nice variety of songs that the entire crowd could get into. The acoustics in the place was pretty bad though.

Cocktails - Cafe Thi
Margarita and gin and tonic. The cocktails in Ho Chi Minh as a whole weren’t very good, but Cafe Thi did make a pretty good margarita. It was weird that they served it in a small martini glass though. I need my booze! 🙂

Vietnamese beer – Go2 Bar

Vietnamese beer - Go2 Bar

I’m not a big beer drinker, but beer was much cheaper than cocktails in Vietnam. It was also VERY hot while we were there so the beers were a great way to cool down. It was fun trying all the local brews. Each 50,000 VND

Man on motorcycle
This was a pretty common sight – people just relaxing or even sleeping on their motorcycles parked on the sidewalks or streets. This guy was just chillin’, lol!

Killer nachos – Hi Tops

Killer nachos - Hi Tops
(February 2, 2014)
House-made tortilla chips, pulled pork, pepper jack and cheddar, avocado, black beans and pickled jalapenos. $14
Hi Tops, San Francisco CA

Killer nachos - Hi Tops
(Original post picture, kinda dark so had to replace it. This version had turkey chili instead of pulled pork.)

Omg, when this came out I was in shock! It was literally an entire cookie sheet of nachos! It was pretty good and really filling especially with the turkey chili. I’m not sure I’d order this again unless I had a small group of friends to share it with. There were 3 of us that night and we could not finish! 🙂

Cocktails – Quoin

Rye-min and Stealin cocktail - Quoin
Rye-min’ and Stealin’: rye, grapefruit, Campari, rose water, Peychaud’s bitters. $9
Quoin, Seattle WA

The cocktails at Quoin are good, some of them a bit overpriced in my opinion. Both drinks I tried were tasty and distinct. I really can’t choose a favorite because they were so different and hard to compare. The Rye-min’ cocktail was definitely easier to drink and was probably the “girlier” drink. I guess what made the Macho Man-hattan so manly was the scotch rinse. You could definitely taste the distinct bite especially if you’re not a regular scotch drinker. I liked it though.

Pub wings – Belltown Pub

Pub wings - Belltown Pub
Buffalo style with ranch dressing. One pound $11
Belltown Pub, Seattle WA

I’m usually a big fan of wings, but these were super small so they were pretty much all bones and sauce. Lame! A pound of wings also doesn’t get you very much so you’re left hungry and unsatisfied.

Bourbon Basil cocktail - Belltown Pub

Bourbon Basil: bourbon, muddled basil, limes, simple and soda. $7
This drink was just OK – a bit on the sour side and very little alcohol.

Bacon and eggs – Wingmasters Sports Bar

Bacon and eggs - Wingmasters Sports Bar
Two eggs over-easy with sizzling fresh bacon, Yukon Gold hashbrowns and toast. $7.59
Wingmasters Sports Bar, Seattle WA

This basic breakfast is hearty enough and at a reasonable price. The servers here are really great and the atmosphere is upbeat and friendly. It’s a wonderful spot to grab a beer and wings to watch sports tv in Ballard.

Aspall cider – The Fat Cat

Aspall cider - The Fat Cat

This was the first time I’d tried Aspall Cyder and it was delicious. It’s made in the same county where the bar was located so I thought it was cool to try a local product. And even better that the product was alcoholic, lol! The English can definitely drink but I was up for the challenge.
The Fat Cat, Ipswich ENGLAND

We came to Suffolk County for a wedding and stayed with family in Ipswich. I’d never been to Suffolk before so I was really excited. We took the train from London and it was great to see the beautiful English countryside. The Suffolk visit was blisteringly quick – we arrived on a Friday night, attended the wedding on Saturday, then went back to London on Sunday morning. It would have been nice to spend a little more time to explore the quaint surrounding areas. Maybe next time!

Suffolk wedding
The outdoor wedding was held at the couple’s beautiful countryside home. They set up everything in their garden (which they had built and planted from scratch only a few years prior). I was amazed at how lovely everything was and felt fortunate to have attended.
