Buffalo chicken burger – Holy Cow!

Buffalo chicken burger - Holy Cow!
Breaded chicken fillet with chili sauce and lettuce, served with barbecue flavored fries. 210 PHP
Holy Cow!, Manila PHILIPPINES

I don’t know where the béarnaise sauce fits in, but they gave me an entire gravy boat of it, lol! I’m not sure that béarnaise screams bbq to me, but whatever. I’m not gonna judge another country’s interpretation of foreign cuisine. This burger was decent but I wish it had more chili sauce and none of the béarnaise sauce. The bbq flavored fries didn’t taste very bbq-y either.

Ivar’s Seafood Bar, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA)

3-piece fish 'n chips combo meal - Ivar's Seafood Bar
This definitely isn’t the healthiest option at the SeaTac Airport, but Ivar’s is such quintessential Northwest food that I couldn’t resist. Their fish is actually really good and the fries come out piping hot. I also love the consistency of their clam chowder. Noms!

Ham and scrambled eggs – Philippine Airlines

Ham and scrambled eggs - Philippine Airlines
Hash browns, mushrooms and tomato, pineapple, cranberry raisin bar, roll, orange juice. Complimentary
Manila (MNL) to San Francisco (SFO), Philippine Airlines

Ugh, not the best way to end a vacation – with subpar breakfast food from PAL. The ham was a bit salty and the hash browns were super mushy. I never expect much from airplane eggs so I really didn’t dock PAL points for them. Oh well…

Honey lemon chicken – Holy Cow!

Honey lemon chicken - Holy Cow!
Grilled chicken quarter with garlic rice and vegetables.
Holy Cow!, Manila PHILIPPINES

The chicken tasted fine, a little dry in some parts. But the yellow plate really bothered me for some reason. I thought it was an unfortunate color to serve food on especially with an ill-fitting cast iron plate on top.

War time flag of the Philippines
War time flag of the Philippines, Malacanan Palace. During war (I don’t remember which one – it was a long tour), the Philippines swapped the positions of the red and blue sections of the flag, rarely done by any other country.

Empanadilla pernil – La Isla Cuisine

Empanadilla pernil - La Isla Cuisine
Pork filled empanada with aioli and sweet chili sauce. Happy hour $2
La Isla Cuisine, Seattle WA

Two bucks for a warm empanada?! I’m in! We went here during a late night bar crawl and took advantage of their super cheap happy hour menu, lol. This empanada may have been small, but it was cooked to order and tasted mighty good!

Chicken inasal – Philippine Airlines

Chicken inasal - Philippine Airlines
Grilled chicken, steamed vegetables, rice, chicken jicama salad, dinner roll, mango parfait. Complimentary
Manila (MNL) to San Francisco (SFO), Philippine Airlines

Chicken inasal is a well known Ilonggo dish of marinated chicken that’s grilled. I don’t think I’d ever had it before, but this airplane version wasn’t very good. I don’t know what spices they used, but it was kind of sour and unpleasant tasting. I’m not sure how authentic the PAL version was, but I don’t think I’d eat it again if that was how it was supposed to taste.

Holy cow quesadilla – Holy Cow!

Holy cow quesadilla - Holy Cow!
Toasted flour tortilla filled with ground beef and melted mozzarella cheese. Drizzled with garlic mayo and smoky barbeque sauce. 240 PHP
Holy Cow!, Manila PHILIPPINES

Holy cow quesadilla - Holy Cow!
I was excited for this quesadilla, but when it came out there was way too much sauce on top. I certainly like saucy things, but I don’t know if I really wanted that much mayonnaise on my quesadilla. Some of the right flavors were there, but I think the tortillas were old. They tasted a bit musty like it was about to mold.

Craft cider and beer – The Noble Fir

Habanero Cider - The Noble Fir
Habanero Cider, Finnriver Cidery, Chimacum, WA. $8
The Noble Fir, Seattle WA

Mmm, both these glass were really tasty! The habanero cider had just the right amount of habanero flavor without getting too hot and making it unpleasant to drink. And the Imperial Red with chocolate was bold and delicious.
