Husk fried kielbasa – The Bar at Husk

Husk fried kielbasa - The Bar at Husk
With a pickled egg, charred pepper relish and beer mustard. $8
The Bar at Husk, Charleston SC

Husk fried kielbasa - The Bar at Husk
A pretty simple dish, but all the components were delicious! The kielbasa had a great smoky flavor and was nice and fatty. I loved the pickled egg and relish, they added some acidity to help cut the fat. I’m not a big mustard fan, but the beer mustard tasted great too.

Three meat combo – Home Team BBQ

Three meat combo - Home Team BBQ
Smoked pulled pork, 1/4 chicken, 3-4 ribs, mac and cheese, poppy seed slaw, cornbread muffin. $16.25
Fiery Ron’s Home Team BBQ, Charleston SC

Mmm, so good! I’m a sucker for pork ribs and these taste great. Actually, the chicken and the pulled pork were also very good. The mac and cheese was perfect, so cheesy and just the way I like it. The coleslaw was light, perhaps on the runny side but yummy. And the Alabama white sauce is amazing!

SweetWater 420 Extra pale ale - Home Team BBQ

SweetWater 420 Extra pale ale beer. I’m not a huge beer fan but this tasted great with the bbq!

Sauce bottles - Home Team BBQ
Bbq sauce bottles. They’re all different tasting and pretty good. The “hot” bbq sauce is not hot at all though. Maybe Southerners have a different spice gauge? And I’m not a big mustard based bbq sauce guy so I didn’t use much of it.

Circular Congretional Church and Cemetery

Circular Congretional Church and Cemetery. This is a beautiful church in the middle of the downtown historic district. I’ve never been inside, but the graveyard in the back is pretty cool.

Corned beef – Local Mission Eatery

Project 365: Day 110

Argh, I totally don’t wan’t to be at work today! It’s kind of a waste to work on a Monday since I’m leaving for Europe tomorrow. My flight isn’t until 4pm, but I took the entire day off because I just want time to relax and make sure that I’ve packed everything I need. I tried searching for my electrical outlet adaptor earlier but I couldn’t find it. Oh well, I know that Hubbs is bringing one. Why aren’t outlets standardized across all countries, anyway? Geez!

Corned beef Local Mission Eatery
With poached eggs and beer braised cabbage. $12
Local Mission Eatery, San Francisco CA

Corned beef Local Mission Eatery
The corned beef was super tender and flavorful and I loved the sourness of the beer braised cabbage. The eggs were poached medium, as requested by David, lol! I don’t know why people even order poached eggs if they don’t like them runny! They’re missing out. 🙂

Rudolph Valentino house 1926, Roosevelt Way

Former Rudolph Valentino house, Roosevelt Way. I’ve walked by this beautiful house in the Upper Market Terrace neighborhood many times, but didn’t know that it had previously belonged to the silent film star, Rudolph Valentino, in 1926 according to the plaque in front. Apparently, that’s also the year he died. 😦

Prince Edward Isle mussels – Hubbard Grille

Prince Edward Isle mussels Hubbard Grille

Chef’s beer selection, basil and sundried tomatoes, served with toasted baguette slices and lemon wedge. $12 ($6 for Sunday happy hour)
Hubbard Grille, Columbus OH

I’m glad that these mussels weren’t overcooked. The shellfish was still plump and juicy, yay! I really liked the broth too. Perhaps it was the beer, hehe!

Italian beef sandwich – Harry Caray’s Seventh Inning Stretch

Italian beef sandwich Harry Caray's Seventh Inning Stretch

Sliced beef on a French roll, served with au jus, hot Giardiniera peppers, and Holy Cow!* potato chips. $11.95
Harry Caray’s Seventh Inning Stretch, MDW Chicago IL

“Holy Cow” is right! Those home made chips were frickin’ disgusting! They were SO greasy and soggy, gross! The Italian beef sandwich was ok. The beef had good flavor but the roll was super soft and got really soggy from the au jus. I would have preferred to be more crunchy so that it could withstand the dip a little better. I stopped eating it like a sandwich early on and used a fork and knife instead.

Stella Artois Harry Caray's Seventh Inning Stretch

Stella Artois beer. $5.50

Dungeness crab mustard – Swan Oyster Depot

Dungeness crab mustard Swan Oyster Depot

This is the guts, innards and fat found inside of the crab shell. I’m not really sure what the proper term for this yellow soup-y thing is, but the best name I found on the internet is “mustard”. It was served cold and very tasty! Use the sourdough bread to mop up this delicious yellow, fatty soup!
Swan Oyster Depot, San Francisco

Love this place! This was my first time here, but I’d definitely go back and even brave the long line again.

Anchor Steam beer Swan Oyster Depot

Anchor Steam beer. $4
So good!

Devils on horseback – Magnolia Pub and Brewery

Devils on horseback Magnolia Pub and Brewery

Goat cheese stuffed, bacon wrapped dates with a kolsch gastrique. $6
Magnolia Pub and Brewery, San Francisco

These bites were very flavorful and heart-stopping! No really, I could feel my arteries getting clogged and my heart stop for a second, lol! Like that’s stopped me before. 🙂  These were delicious and the beer gastrique provided additional sweetness. I did eat the bed of lettuce leaves to balance out all the fat, lol!

Deep Ellum Dubbel beer – Magnolia Pub and Brewery

Deep Ellum Dubbel beer Magnolia Pub and Brewery

Belgium style beer. 13 ounce for $6
Magnolia Pub and Brewery, San Francisco

I’ve said it before – I’m not a big beer drinker but I’ve been getting lucky with my choices lately! This dark, caramelly Belgian style beer was absolutely delicious! Really great, rich flavor and I loved the cute etched glass that it came in. Helps me to forgive the place for having a Kalifornia Kolsch. Don’t they know that only beer brewed in Cologne (Koln) can be called Kolsch!?

Duvel Belgian golden ale – The Monk’s Kettle

Duvel golden ale Monk's Kettle

Light Belgian beer. Brouwerij Moortgat, Breendonk-Puurs, BEL. $10.75
The Monk’s Kettle, San Francisco

I don’t usually enjoy a lot of beers, but I really like this one! It was light and flavorful. And how can you complain when it comes in such a cute glass?! The beer list is quite extensive at The Monk’s Kettle, but the bartender is super friendly and helpful.

Negima – Tenka Japanese Restaurant

Negima Tenka Japanese Restaurant

Sliced beef rolled with scallion and avocado. $2.95 for happy hour
Tenka Japanese Restaurant, San Mateo

This appetizer read better than it looked once it arrived.  Perhaps it was the lighting, but it looked so unappetizing.  I’m not even sure what the sauce was on top. I can’t say that I remember what these tasted like, but they were cheap!

Asahi beer Tenka Japanese Restaurant

Asahi beer.

Carnitas – Nopalito

Carnitas Nopalito

Tender pork braised in orange, bay leaf, milk, cinnamon and beer. $15
Nopalito, San Francisco

This is one beautiful packet of pork, NOMS!!!  The carnitas at Nopalito are so frickin’ good!  The meat is so flavorful and tender, it’s ridiculous!  You can smell and taste all the ingredients in the lovey braise.  The cut isn’t overly fatty, but I think that the fatty pieces were worth every calorie!

Carnitas Nopalito

You might not be able to tell from the pic, but you get a very generous portion of carnitas. David and I could barely finish the order, granted we did eat a few other things. 🙂

Carnitas Nopalito

The pork is served with a cabbage salad, pickled jalapenos and salsa de tomatillo, and warm tortillas for wrapping.
