Filon garnacha 2010 – Lolo

Filon garnacha 2010 - Lolo
Calatayud, Spain. Red wine, berries, leather, anise. Glass $8
Lolo, San Francisco CA

This dinner started off well with the wine (it tasted pretty good), but quickly went downhill from there. The service was sporadic and the timing was WAY off!

Pink flowered succulent (Echeveria sp., Crassulaceae)

Pink flowered succulent (Echeveria sp., Crassulaceae), Dolores Street. My neighbor has a simple planter filled with beautiful succulents and other drought tolerant plants. Love the color of this one!

Manti – Tuba Restaurant and Grill

Manti - Tuba Restaurant and Grill
Stuffed beef dumplings topped with yogurt, red pepper flakes, sumac and dried mint. $16
Tuba Restaurant and Grill, San Francisco CA

These beef dumplings were so cute and small. They were dense and delicious and the yogurt sauce was flavorful! I would definitely order these again.

Orange African daisy (Arctotis sp., Asteraceae)
Orange African daisy (Arctotis sp., Asteraceae), Dolores Street. My street is full of beautiful blooms!

Ham scrambler – Toast Eatery

Ham scrambler - Toast Eatery
Scrambled eggs with ham, tomato, green onions, and swiss cheese. Served with hashbrowns and fruit (pineapple, blueberry, blackberry, strawberry, cantaloupe, honeydew melon). $11
Toast Eatery, San Francisco CA

Although the fruit is an extra $1.50 substitution, I like that they include plenty of berries! I hate it when restaurants only give you melons as a fruit bowl.

Golden Gate Bridge
Beautiful San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge from the Marin Headlands.

Wow, I’ve never had this dish before and I loved it! The pureed eggplant was delicious and had a wonderful texture. And the lamb was nice, tender and tasty. Mmm!

Ca kho to – Ben Tre

Ca kho to - Ben Tre
Catfish clay pot simmered in traditional homestyle sauce and garlic, spinkled with black pepper, served with a bowl of steamed jasmine rice. $11.25
Ben Tre Vietnamese Homestyle Cuisine, South San Francisco CA

This was one of the saddest clay pots I’ve had in a while! The three pieces of fish were SUPER small and most of the liquid in the sauce had been cooked down too much making it SUPER salty, yuck! I expected more substance from this dish. Don’t think I’ll be ordering this again!

Hot link scrambler – Toast Eatery

Hot link scrambler - Toast Eatery
Scrambled eggs with hot link sausage, peppers, spinach, onions, and pepper jack cheese. Served with hashbrowns and wheat toast. $9.50
Toast Eatery, San Francisco CA

I enjoy that there are 2 Toast Eateries in Noe Valley. With all the yuppies and their kids runnning around and very few brunch spots, my neighborhood definitely needs both locations. The fare is standard, but the prices are great and the atmosphere is lively.

House coffee - Toast Eatery
House coffee. $2.50

The Special banh mi - Dinosaurs
Roasted pork, fancy pork loaf and pork pate with pickled carrot and daikon radishes, cilantro, cucumber, jalapeno, and mayo on a French baguette. $5
Dinosaurs, San Francisco CA

Wow, pork three ways all in one sandwich! This isn’t the healthiest sandwich out there, but it sure is one of the tastiest – yes, please!

Sea lions at Pier 39
Sea lions at Pier 39. I know this is cheesy, but the sea lions are a major tourist attraction in San Francisco (Lou Seal is the mascot for the SF Giants, btw). They swim into the Bay and sunbathe on the floating docks along Pier 39 – kinda cool.

Feta prawns – Tuba Restaurant and Grill

Feta prawns - Tuba Restaurant and Grill
Sauteed in a tomato and pepperoncini sauce. Garnished with chopped parsley and lemon wedge. $10
Tuba Restaurant and Grill, San Francisco CA

Mmm, this was nommy! The prawns were tender and well seasoned, and I loved the flavorful sauce.

Our Lady San Francisco graffiti mural, Cunningham Place. Ok, I made up the name for this artwork in The Mission district, but it does apear to be a human manifestion of our beloved City protecting her homeless and artisans.

The Spicy Tuna banh mi – Dinosaurs

The Spicy Tuna banh mi - Dinosaurs
Chunk light tuna with spicy mayo, pickled carrot and daikon radishes, cilantro, cucumber, jalapeno, and mayo on a French baguette. $4.75
Dinosaurs, San Francisco CA

Omg, Dinosaurs is my new favorite banh mi sandwich shop near my neighborhood! (Saigon Sandwich still rocks it out in the Tenderloin.) I was surprised that this used canned tuna (I didn’t know what to expect), but I really loved it! These sandwiches are cheap and deliciously awesome!
