Baked monkey roll – Saru Sushi Bar

Baked monkey roll - Saru Sushi Bar
Baked California roll topped with salmon, masago (capelin roe), scallions, spicy mayo and sweet soy glaze. $14
Saru Sushi Bar, San Francisco CA

Mmm, this warm roll was SO delicious! I thought that because it had so many things on it including a spicy mayo and soy glaze that I wouldn’t be able to taste all the ingredients, but I was wrong. You could definitely taste the CA roll and salmon too, yum! I would order this again.

Noe Valley Farmers Market mural, 24th Street
Noe Valley Farmers Market mural, 24th Street. I don’t actually know what this mural is called and I should really figure out who painted it. The mural is located in the parking lot that hosts the Noe Valley Farmers Market on Saturdays. I think it’s absolutely beautiful and it extends on both sides of the parking lot.

Pierna enchilada torta – La Torta Gorda

Pierna enchilada torta - La Torta Gorda
Pulled pork torta with refried beans, avocado, queso fresco, onions, mayo, jalapenos and chipotle. Junior size $5.75
La Torta Gorda, San Francisco CA

Mmm, this torta is SO good! You know that I love most things saucy and the pulled pork filling is definitely that. The pressed sandwich is stuffed with so many comforting ingredients and the they also provide a deliciously smokey salsa on the side. The tortas are quite large and I can never finish the junior size in one sitting. That’s perfectly fine with me because I get to save a little bit for later!

Wasabi king prawns – Jun Ming Xuan

Wasabi king prawns - Jun Ming Xuan
Deep fried prawns in wasabi mayonnaise sauce. £15.80
Jun Ming Xuan Chinese Restaurant, London ENGLAND

I liked that the wasabi-mayo wasn’t too strong and overpowering. The prawns were quite large and filling especially with the heavy sauce.

Wow, pork three ways all in one sandwich! This isn’t the healthiest sandwich out there, but it sure is one of the tastiest – yes, please!

Sea lions at Pier 39
Sea lions at Pier 39. I know this is cheesy, but the sea lions are a major tourist attraction in San Francisco (Lou Seal is the mascot for the SF Giants, btw). They swim into the Bay and sunbathe on the floating docks along Pier 39 – kinda cool.

The Spicy Tuna banh mi – Dinosaurs

The Spicy Tuna banh mi - Dinosaurs
Chunk light tuna with spicy mayo, pickled carrot and daikon radishes, cilantro, cucumber, jalapeno, and mayo on a French baguette. $4.75

Omg, Dinosaurs is my new favorite banh mi sandwich shop near my neighborhood! (Saigon Sandwich still rocks it out in the Tenderloin.) I was surprised that this used canned tuna (I didn’t know what to expect), but I really loved it! These sandwiches are cheap and deliciously awesome!

Ahi burger – Gott’s Roadside

Project 365: Day 122

Had an amazing day so far! David and I are having a Cinco de Sonoma weekend. We started the day with lunch at Farley Bar in Sausalito, then made it to Gloria Ferrer and Viansa before checking into The Lodge in Sonoma. Our room is cute and overlooks the pool area. Now we’re just relaxing before heading to LaSalette for a Portuguese tapas dinner. Life is good!

Ahi burger Gott's Roadside
5 ounces of fresh ahi tuna seared rare with ginger wasabi mayo and Asian slaw on a toasted egg bun. $14.99
Gott’s Roadside, San Francisco

Mmm, so good! This burger is pretty delicious. The ginger wasabi mayo and the slaw have so much flavor. The piece of tuna is quite large (which may account for the price), but it was a little too cold in the center to make this burger absolutely amazing. Again, I love that the egg bun soaks up all the yummy flavors.

Cuarto Sombras panini – Cafe Cuatro Sombras

Project 365: Day 111

I’m at SFO International Terminal A with Hubbs and waiting to board our Virgin Atlantic flight to LHR. Yippee! The flight is 9+ hours long so I’m gonna have plenty of movie-watching time. I’m SO glad it’s a direct flight. We arrive in London tomorrow morning but have to wait at the airport for our afternoon connection to Dublin on British Midland International. SO excited!

Cafe Cuatro Sombras panini
Black forest ham, lettuce, tomato, recao and cilantrillo mayo with a garlic and cheese spread on an olive oil bread. Served with potato chips. $7.50
Cafe Cuatro Sombras, Old San Juan, PUERTO RICO

Leave it to a cafe to deliver some of the better food we had in Old San Juan. This panini was delicious. Otherwise, San Juan was a food bust for the most part.

Iced lattes Cafe Cuatro Sombras
16 ounce iced latte. $3.75

Roast chicken banh mi – Saigon Sandwich

Roast chicken banh mi Saigon Sandwich

Vietnamese sandwich with sliced roast chicken, pickled carrots and onions, jalapenos, cilantro and mayonnaise on a toasted roll. $3.50
Saigon Sandwich, San Francisco

Yum, I love Saigon Sandwich for their absolutely delicious and CHEAP sandwiches! These sandwiches are quite large for only costing $3.50. The chicken was very flavorful and the pickled veggies were perfect. Mmm, if I lived closer to this place I would hit it up several times a week!

Bacon wrapped hot dog with everything!

Bacon wrapped hot dog with everything

“With everything” comes with grilled onions, jalapenos, ketchup, mayonnaise, and mustard on a toasted bun!
Hot dog cart in The Mission, San Francisco CA

I know, I know! This thing is a heart attack served on a bun, but it’s SO frickin’ good after a long night of clubbing. There are carts throughout the city, and it’s anybody’s guess where they’ll be on any given night, but The Mission always seems to have the lion’s share on weekends! I grabbed this on the way home from a late night out and I had to be careful not to squish it in the car, lol! (Don’t worry, I wasn’t driving.)Mmmm, so gross and so good at the same time!
