Project 365: Day 103

At work today counting down before my flight to Las Vegas for a work conference. I’m not really looking forward to it since I know that I’ll be spending money that I should be saving for my Europe trip next week. At least the food options in Vegas will be SO much better than Charleston.

I’ve been really stressed out this morning, probably because I didn’t have a proper breakfast. I’m also trying to finalize work/home things before my flight. Ok, next time you hear from me I’ll be in Sin City. Toodles!

Wow, this was one of those rare spicy tuna rolls that was SO disgusting! I was so disappointed with this roll and pretty much everything else I ordered at Dojima-Ann. The sushi rice was off, the spicy sauce tasted gross, and I’m sure the tuna was not of the freshest quality.

Project 365: Day 70

This has been a horrible day so far! Our red-eye flight out of SFO was delayed last night because of the rain so we would have missed our IAD connection to San Juan. We were able to get on an earlier flight out of SFO and made our connection, but our bags didn’t make it. The baggage claim guy at the SJU airport was SO lame and annoying. So now we probably won’t have clothes to change into until tomorrow.

We’ve also had a horrible dining experience in San Juan already. Our cab driver suggested Raices Restaurant near our hotel to have lunch and it was absolutely horrible. This place was a cheesy tourist trap if I’ve ever seen one! The food was disgusting and the over priced drinks were weak and gross tasting. I hope the dining improves during our stay!

Despite all that, San Juan is beautiful and the weather has been great!

Project 365: Day 67

I had to work half a day this morning and the anticipation for my Caribbean vacation is hitting me hard! After my French Laundry meal last night (I’ll try to get those uploaded asap), I’m not feeling so hot in the body image department. Oh well, not much I can do now. I’m hitting the gym this evening and probably tomorrow night as a final attempt to tone up. Lol!

Project 365: Day 66

This is the day I went to French Laundry in Yountville. It was an 8:45 dinner reservation so I drove all the way up and had to drive back to the city afterward because I had to work the next morning. My friend has a Per Se connection so we received spectacular service and extra food, heck yeah! We were in and out of the restaurant in 5 hours! Previously, my longest dinner was 4 hours at Mistral Kitchen in Seattle. Dinner was amazing and I can’t wait to go back!

This was definitely a buttery fish, SO good! I have to say that overall, Hecho is a bit overpriced though.

This looks really pretty on the plate, but this wasn’t all that great in terms of fresh sushi. The fish was of OK quality and the pieces were super cold (recently defrosted? ew). I’m just glad that they didn’t taste fishy and old. I’m still hoping that I can get good sushi in Ohio! The service was friendly though. This restuarant was SO weird though because it had food from all different Asian countries. It’s like the corner shops in San Francisco that have burgers, Chinese food, and donuts! Can you really trust that they can make any of it authentically or decently?

Project 365: Day 59

Running around town(s) performing errands before Codes’ birthday party tonight. Just went and bought 10 potted orchids for centerpieces, dropped some stuff off at the event site, then gonna help prepare some food for the buffet. That sounds like a lot, but it’s actually been a pretty chill day. We kinda partied a little too hard last night and now we’re not feeling so spectacular today, hehe! At least I’ll look cute tonight!

This monster roll had A LOT going on! Actually, there was too much going on and you really couldn’t figure out what everything was. It tasted great though, but so does everything that’s deep fried. I guess I ordered it because I AM in Buckeye territory and I thought that it’d be a safe bet in terms of sushi in a midwestern state. I remember having sushi in Ohio last year, and it was horrible. This wasn’t that bad.

Mmm, even though there were probably previously frozen, they still tasted good and fulfilled my fatty/salty cravings. I love gyoza, even when I buy them from an Asian market and completely butcher them while cooking. So I guess that’s why I’m forgiving even when I go out to restaurant and receive bad ones.

Like most items at Ebisu in International Terminal G, this soup is VERY salty! The broth has pretty good flavor, but I don’t think I can ever finish an entire bowl of this because of the high salt level. This is an interesting bowl of soup though because all the vegetables are all cut long and thin so they look and work well with the buckwheat soba noodles. Just wish

Huff’s yakitori birthday dinner – Mokutanya

A group of us from work went to this yakitori restaurant to celebrate Huff’s birthday. I’d tell you what age he was turning, but I don’t know that information. Huff is good at keeping a tight lip about his age. Such a girl, lol!

I can’t remember if I’ve ever eaten at a yakitori restaurant where you take your shoes off outside of your table area and step down to sit below the level of the floor. It was kinda cool!

What wasn’t cool was when the host came by and “entertained” our table with some card tricks and a few jokes. It was OK, but it seemed forced and I felt a little uncomfortable, like I was trapped in my below-ground table while he stood above us performing for his captive audience.

The dinner went great and the food was pretty good. Apparently the noodles were really good – I didn’t have any though. I like my work group and dinner always flies by. At the end of dinner, splitting the bill was a headache, again! I think we all expect Papa Chang to take care of the check and let everyone know how much they owe, yay!

This was a huge piece of pork cutlet! I tried to make it a little healthier by opting for the brown rice, but there was just so much of the deep fried pork and that curry sauce wasn’t light either! I don’t think I even finished this, there was so much food. Maybe I’m just not a big Japanese curry fan. This was SO heavy. It tasted ok, but I don’t have cravings for it like some people do.
