Grilled steak and egg sandwich – Stock in Trade

Grilled steak and egg sandwich - Stock in Trade
Grilled hanger steak, two fried eggs, pickled red onion, garlic aioli, wild arugula, chimichurri, toasted pain de mie, crispy skinny fries, and fruit. $13
Stock in Trade, San Francisco CA

This burger had a lot of great flavors, but it was super cold – EW! I think the server must have forgotten it on the counter for a long time before bringing it out. I was surprised that the skinny French fries stayed crispy and delicious though. I can only imagine how much better they would have been served warm. Kind lame, Stock in Trade!

Bbq pork fried rice – Makli Chinese Cuisine

Bbq pork fried rice - Makli Chinese Cuisine
Sauteed barbecued pork, egg, scallions with fried rice. $7.50
Makli Chinese Cuisine, San Francisco CA

Meh, I’ve never been a huge fan of fried rice by itself. Rice, for me, has always been something to dump the rest of your food on and to soak up the yummy sauces. It’s never been a stand alone entree for me; I can’t eat a bowl of fried rice all by itself. This fried rice tasted pretty good though, but they could have thrown in a bit more bbq pork.

Homemade corn beef hash – Art’s Cafe

Homemade corn beef hash - Art's Cafe
Spinach, onion, mushroom, melted cheddar cheese Served with hash browns, 2 eggs scrambled, and toast. $6.35
Art’s Cafe, San Francisco CA

OK, this was kinda sad. I get that the prices here are super cheap especially for San Francisco, but I would pay a little more to get a plate of food that would actually fill me up. The skimpily thin layer of corned beef hash (which is mostly potato anyway) placed atop another thin layer of hash browns isn’t gonna cut it! Like I said, I think this place is cute but they might want to reevaluate their portions.

Hot sausage has brown sandwich – Art’s Cafe

Hot sausage has brown sandwich - Art's Cafe
Spinach, onion, mushroom, melted cheddar cheese on hash browns, 2 eggs over-medium, and wheat toast. $7
Art’s Cafe, San Francisco CA

Ugh, I was not impressed by this hashbrown sandwich. Yes, I thought this small diner was super cute and neighborhood-y, and the family running it was sweet and efficient, but the food left much to be desired. My eggs were overcooked, and the hashbrowns were super thin and pretty greasy. Because it was so thin, it really didn’t hold up to the filling which there was little of anyway.

Mashed chicken and sweet corn soup – Makli Chinese Cuisine

Mashed chicken and sweet corn soup - Makli Chinese Cuisine
Thick broth cooked with tiny pieces of chicken, corn, egg. Cup $2
Makli Chinese Cuisine, San Francisco CA

This is a standard soup served in most Chinese restaurants. For me, it’s the consistency of the broth that either makes or breaks the soup. Too runny, and it is unsatisfying. Too thick, and it becomes a chore to it. Makli’s soup was just right in terms of consistency. It was also pretty flavorful and nice and warm. I prefer more egg though.

Hangtown fry – Brenda’s French Soul Food

Hangtown fry - Brenda's French Soul Food
Crispy oyster, bacon and scallion scramble with grits plus cream biscuit. $11
Brenda’s French Soul Food, San Francisco CA

Wow, another super heavy (but tasty) dish from Brenda’s. The fried oysters were pretty good, and they were big and juicy and filling. Omg, the grits was pure butter! It tasted great, but a couple spoonfuls was enough for me. The cream biscuit was also very rich. I liked the texture of it, but you really couldn’t eat the whole thing. Maybe I’m just used to eating more healthy lately so this dish was a bit too much for me.

Pulled pork eggs benedict - Brenda's French Soul Food
Over cream biscuit, poached egg, hollandaise, with potato hash. $12.75
Brenda’s French Soul Food, San Francisco CA

Wow, this was very tasty but oh so heavy! You really couldn’t eat both of them. Between the cream biscuit, pork, egg and hollandaise sauce it was just a rock in your stomach. It was good, don’t get me wrong, but a little went a long way! 😉

Wow, this was really delicious! All the flavors were great and I loved the addition of the sunny side up egg on top. I wish I could eat this more often, but then I’d have to buy larger clothes. 😉

This basic breakfast is hearty enough and at a reasonable price. The servers here are really great and the atmosphere is upbeat and friendly. It’s a wonderful spot to grab a beer and wings to watch sports tv in Ballard.

Sausage, egg and cheese muffin sandwich meal – Burger King

Sausage, egg and cheese muffin - Burger King
Savory sausage, eggs, and melted American cheese inside a warm English muffin. Served with small side of hash browns and a small Seattle’s Best coffee.. $5.29
Burger King, San Francisco CA

I can’t remember the last time I was at a Burger King in the States. I don’t really like their food very much, but I was late to work and didn’t have time to eat breakfast at home so I ducked in to BK for a quick meal. The sandwich was what I expected, OK. But they do seem bigger that the sandwiches at McDonald’s though.

Hash browns - Burger King

Hash browns. These are the best part of a Burger King visit. I swear they must have MSG in them because they’re SO addictive. 🙂 But why don’t they call them tater tots? That has always confused me.
