Epic caesar salad - Epic
Grilled chicken, romaine lettuce, bacon, hard-boiled eggs and croutons, creamy parmesan dressing on the side. 265 PHP
Epic, Boracay PHILIPPINES

Mmm, this salad was really tasty! The ingredients were of good quality and I liked how neatly it was presented for a salad. The thick shavings of parmesan cheese were great on top.

Hainanese chicken – Epic

Hainanese chicken - Epic
Half chicken cooked Hainan-style, served with chicken rice, broth, ginger sauce and sambal. 450 PHP
Epic, Boracay PHILIPPINES

This dish was really good! I don’t think it was that authentic because it didn’t have that beautiful yellow color that most Hainan chicken dishes have, but it was no less tasty. I liked the presentation and the separate bowls of chicken broth. This dish was definitely great for sharing.

Three-dal wave – Wave Bar & Lounge

Three-dal wave - Wave Bar & Lounge
Loaded potato skins, fried mozzarella, and tangy buffalo wings, served with sour cream, chives and marinara sauce. 420 PHP
Wave Bar & Lounge, Boracay PHILIPPINES

This was pretty good for a fried appetizer plate. The loaded potato skins ended up being bbq potato chips though. Ugh, whatever. Everything tasted great, but the chips were a bit soggy. The service was really friendly and they bring the food out to you on the beach. Lovely!

It took me a while to figure out what “three-dal wave” was referring to. I wasn’t sure if it was a tagalog thing at first, but then realized it was a play on “tidal wave”. Ugh, doesn’t sound very similar, lol!

Chicken with chili and lemon grass – Sisters Cafe

Chicken with chili and lemon grass - Sisters Cafe
Served with rice, lettuce, tomato. 79,000 VND
Sisters Cafe, Ho Chi Minh City VIETNAM

Mmm, this lemon grass chicken was SO much better than the one at Vietnamese Kitchen! It was like night and day. This chicken was tender and the sauce was SO delicious. The portion was larger and the price was noticeably lower. Score!

Breakfast #3 – Best Western Hotel La Corona

Breakfast #3 - Best Western Hotel La Corona
Teriyaki chicken, sautéed vegetables, kielbasa, scramble eggs, and croissant. Complimentary
Best Western Hotel La Corona, Manila PHILIPPINES

Meh, I didn’t really like the selection this morning. I mean, teriyaki chicken, really? It should have at least been chicken adobo. Oh well, you can’t win them all. 😉

Pancit molo soup – DADS Kamayan Saisaki

Pancit molo soup - DADS Kamayan Saisaki
Pork and chicken wonton soup topped with fried garlic and green onions. Buffet
DADS Kamayan Saisaki, Manila PHILIPPINES

So this is a Filipino version of wonton soup originally from the Iloilo district. I’ve had this several times before but never knew what it was called. There were only a few actual wontons in there and a lot of broken pieces of wonton wrapper, but what do you expect from a buffet. I really like the flavors of this soup though, and I think it’s more hearty than the Chinese version.

Manchurian wings – Panciteria Lido

Manchurian wings - Panciteria Lido
Deep fried chicken wings with a sweet “Asian” glaze. 265 PHP
Panciteria Lido, Manila PHILIPPINES

Ok, this was the only decent dish we had here. It really wasn’t all that great, but I’m a sucker for chicken wings covered in a sweet, sticky sauce. The wings were actually a little over-fried and dry though.

Lunch buffet plate – Villa Escudero

Lunch buffet plate - Villa Escudero
Grilled fish, pork and chicken, pork apritada (stew), kangkong (water spinach) with shrimp paste, pinakbet (calabaza squash and string beans), pancit, and banana cue (deep fried banana coated in caramelized brown sugar).
Villa Escudero, San Pablo City PHILIPPINES

I was amazed at the variety of food they had especially since the service area was directly in the water! They also kept everything nice and warm, and had servers bring drinks to your table. This was a really fun, new and exciting dining experience. Everyone was just really happy and thankful to be eating at such a great location. And the food was really good too!

It’s SO cool that you get to eat lunch in the water from a waterfall!

You have to be careful though because some of the rocks can be slippery especially closer to the waterfall. Everyone is taking pictures of their experience. 🙂

I always forget the names of Filipino dishes partly because I don’t remember but also because every dish has multiple names depending on the region. Tinola a very familiar soup that I ate a lot of growing up and it was great to have a nice warm bowl of it during this trip.

Stir fried chicken with lemongrass – Vietnamese Kitchen

Stir fried chicken with lemongrass - Vietnamese Kitchen
Ga xao xa ot. With chilies and onions, served with steamed rice. 114,000 VND
Vietnamese Kitchen, Ho Chi Minh City VIETNAM

Omg, this chicken was SO horrible! It was probably the driest chicken I’ve eaten in a really long time and it tasted old. Ugh, I couldn’t eat more than a few bites. This restaurant is ridiculous for charging so much for really disgusting food.

Spicy salt and pepper chicken – Chelu Bar & Grill

Spicy salt and pepper chicken - Chelu Bar & Grill
With sauteed onions and bell peppers, served with vinegar sauce. 238 PHP
Chelu Bar and Grill, Manila PHILIPPINES

I was really confused by this dish. When I saw the menu item, I didn’t expect it to come out with a mound of sautéed vegetables on top. Oh well, it still tasted fine. And dipping anything in a vinegar based sauce is fine by me!

Cocktails - Chelu Bar & Grill
Margarita and mai tai. The cocktails here weren’t very good at all! It was definitely better to stick with beer.
