Breakfast plate – Dolce Sitges

Breakfast plate - Dolce Sitges
Spanish tortilla, Iberico ham, sausage, scrambled eggs, hazelnuts, cheese, toast, orange juice, coffee.
Dolce Sitges, Sitges ES

The breakfast buffet at Dolce Sitges was pretty kick-ass! This was only one plate I ate, but they definitely had much more to offer. We were unapologetic about loading up on breakfast before heading out for a day of sightseeing, hehe. We paid for it, right? And I felt like we would burn off the calories anyway. One downside to eating SO much breakfast was that I missed out on some food opportunities while touring simply because was still full. #touristproblems 🙂

Iberico ham legs
Iberico ham legs. This was a first! I’d never seen carving stations like this before where you can order as much ham as you want and the attendant will carve it directly off the leg. Now that’s what I call “cut-to-order”!

Ham and cheese omelette – Le Rostand

Ham and cheese omelette - Le Rostand
Omelette mixte (jambon et fromage). Garnished with chopped chives. 10€
Le Rostand, Paris FR

This cafe is conveniently located across from the Luxembourg Garden. There’s plenty of seats outside and they’re all covered by their awning. The staff is very nice and professional and the food was delicious. Omg, this omelet was huge! And perfectly cooked. It was soft and oozing with cheese – a perfect meal to kickstart a day of sightseeing.

Chorizo jalapeno tartine – Griddle Fresh

Chorizo jalapeno tartine - Griddle Fresh
Pepper jack scramble, chorizo and roasted jalapeno relish, chipotle aioli on a brioche bun, potato wedges, cantaloupe. $12
Griddle Fresh, San Francisco CA

First of all, the service here was SO horrible! They were super slow and completely unattentive. It was the hardest I’ve had to work to flag a server down every time I needed something. Now to the food. It gave me heartburn. Between the spicy chorizo, spicy jalapeno, pepper jack cheese, and chipotle aioli there was SO much heavy spice and fat that I really couldn’t take it. On a positive note, the scramble was well cooked, the bun nicely toasted, and the cantaloupe was ripe and sweet.

Country fried steak – Escena Lounge & Grill

Country fried steak - Escena Lounge & Grill
Hand-hammered cutlet, two eggs over medium, country gravy, toast and breakfast potatoes. $14
Escena Lounge & Grill, Palm Springs CA

OMG, this cutlet was ridiculously HUGE! I can usually eat A LOT, but I couldn’t even begin to finish this thing, lol. It was pretty good, maybe a bit on the dry side, but the gravy and breading were flavorful. I think my heart is screaming from the sight of this again, hehe.

Mini blueberry muffin - Escena Lounge & Grill
Mini blueberry muffin. Delicious!

Buttermilk chicken and waffles – Luna Park

Buttermilk chicken and waffles - Luna Park
Belgian style, served with maple syrup, butter. $15
Luna Park, San Francisco CA

I’ve had my share of Belgian style waffles, but this didn’t compare. The waffle was WAY too airy and, therefore, had little substance. It dissolved almost immediately with the addition of butter and maple syrup. You really needed a more substantial waffle to hold up to the large pieces of buttermilk fried chicken on the plate. The chicken was good, but the waffle was lame.

Upstream eggs benedict – Norma’s

Upstream eggs benedict - Norma's
Buttermilk pancake with smoked salmon, poached eggs, hollandaise, and peewee potatoes. $22
Norma’s, Palm Springs CA

This was ok, but the pancakes quickly became soggy from the luke warm hollandaise sauce, and the potatoes were undercooked. It would definitly be an “upstream” battle to find things that I absolutely loved about this dish.

Side of bacon - Norma's
Side of bacon. $4
This was probably the most reasonably priced item on their menu.

PB&C waffle ‘wich – Norma’s

PB&C waffle 'wich - Norma's
Chocolate waffle with a peanut buter and toffee crunch filling, whipped cream. $19
Norma’s, Palm Springs CA

Dang it was HOT outside! Norma’s really needs to have more even sun coverage on their patio area. The quickly moving sun through the split canvas is way too bothersome.

As for these waffles – they were LAME! Ugh, I thought the food here was going to be spectacular especially at these prices (I mean twenty bucks for waffles – they better be good)! The waffles were super crispy and tasted like powdered chocolate. They were so hard that you really couldn’t cut into them without squishing all the filling out from between them. This dish was a major sugar-bomb without any waffle satisfaction.

Eggs New Orleans – Balancoire

Eggs New Orleans - Balancoire
Crabcake, toasted baguette, sauce maltaise, potatoes, mixed greens. $14
Balancoire, San Francisco CA

Ok, this dish looks decent but it tasted like crap. The crabcake was not only cheap and frozen, but it was made with imitation crabmeat! The sauce maltaise was cold as were the potatoes, and the toasted baguette underneath was pointless. Fail!

Soft scrambled eggs – Plow

Soft scrambled eggs - Plow
Oyster mushrooms, spinach, cheddar, 14 cherry tomatoes, goat cheese, crispy potatoes and toast. $14
Plow, San Francisco CA

Ugh, this scramble was pretty greasy! The soft scramble was executed correctly and the flavors were good, but I couldn’t get past the excessive oil. Also, I had forgotten that there was goat cheese until the very end when I uncovered the huge blob of it at the bottom. I wish it had been incorporated more evenly throughout.

Thanks goodness for those crispy potatoes – they were AMAZING! I could not stop eating them because they were SO flavorful and had the most perfect texture. I think when we go back, I’ll order and extra side of these delicious potatoes!

Balancoire scramble – Balancoire

Balancoire scramble - Balancoire
Seasonal veggies, andouille sausage, pepper jack cheese, potatoes, mixed greens. $12
Balancoire, San Francisco CA

I don’t know how this place is as a club, but as a restaurant it SUCKED! Yelp, you failed me on this one. The food was below marginal and the service was cringingly awkward. These scrambled eggs were super runny and overly cheesy. The potatoes were barely cooked and I think the salad had cheap bottled salad dressing on it. I did like the andouille sausage but even they were inconsistently charred and cooked. Boo!

Biscuits - Balancoire
Biscuits. Compimentary
Omg, these were literally jockey pucks. I’m not sure why they even bothered serving them because they felt and tasted like they were over a week old!

Croque madame – Solaire Restaurant + Bar

Croque madame - Solaire Restaurant + Bar
Smoked ham, gruyere, fried Glaum eggs and mornay sauce served with breakfast potatoes. $15
Solaire Restaurant + Bar, Santa Cruz CA

This croque madame tasted ok – nothing special. But I will say that it was HUGE if that turns you on. The ham looked like cheap deli slices so I wish they had used better ingredients. The mornay sauce was on the cheesier side, but the potatoes were great with lots of flavor.

Ketchup - Solaire Restaurant + Bar

Crab cake benedict – Solaire Restaurant + Bar

Crab cake benedict - Solaire Restaurant + Bar
Glaum Ranch poached eggs, dungeness crab and hollandaise with breakfast potatoes. $16
Solaire Restaurant + Bar, Santa Cruz CA

This dish was ok. The crab cakes had such a strong Old Bay flavor that they didn’t quite work in a benedict. It ultimately tasted like a crab cake on top of an English muffin with an egg and hollandaise sauce thrown in – not very harmonious.
